New online supermarket in Zurich to deliver in less than ten minutes

A new delivery service called «Stash» has launched in Zurich, aiming to deliver groceries and non-food items in less than ten minutes. This is reported by the Handelszeitung in its latest issue.

stashch

The start-up company Stash currently supplies districts 4 and 5 with a range of almost 500 everyday items. Deliveries are made by bike from a warehouse near Zurich's main railway station by Stash employees.

Since the launch on February 12, the time limit has been met in all but one case, Stash CEO Simon Koch told the Handelszeitung: "So far, we have always managed to deliver in five to eight minutes. The fastest delivery was to the customer in 212 seconds. So far, we haven't managed it once and only delivered in eleven minutes because we had a technical problem with the navigation."

Experts believe that the start-up, which is based on international role models such as GoPuff in the USA or Gorillas in Germany, has good prospects. If the Stash pilot project, which is set to last four to eight weeks, is successful, the company is considering expanding in small steps, as Simon Koch explains to the Handelszeitung says: "Then Stash will expand into other Zurich districts." In addition, "medium-sized Swiss cities are also interesting for our service", says the head of Stash.

The coronavirus crisis has not left Helen Kirchhofer unscathed. By further focusing on its digital business, the jewelry and watch retailer can nevertheless look back on a successful 2020. In collaboration with Ads&Figures, the online store was promoted even more intensively, resulting in increased sales and revenue.

And through Google Ads, 68 percent more sales were recorded than in 2019, which also led to strong revenue growth.

We are excited about the above-average results in 2020," says Matthias Tülger, Co-Owner & Managing Director at Helen Kirchhofer.

Swiss advertising market collapses in the first month of 2021

The Swiss advertising market plummeted by about one-third in January 2021 compared to the same month a year earlier (-34.9%). Gross advertising spending totaled just 291 million francs in the first month of 2021, according to Media Focus’s “Advertising Market Trend” report.

This is 156 million less than in January 2020 - and at the same time the lowest figure since July 2012. The reduction extends across all media groups and, with two exceptions - cleaning & beverages - also across all sectors.

While 2020 as a whole closed on a conciliatory note at minus 14 percent, despite the advertising slump during the 1st lockdown, the first month of 2021, with the 2nd lockdown in full swing, shows the consequences of the Corona crisis for advertising budget planning in the new year.

Cleaning and drinks alone on the floor

"Mr. and Mrs. Swiss, you're wondering how to get through the second lockdown well? The answer: stay clean and stay hydrated." That's the message of January 2021's advertising efforts, with the cleaning industry increasing ad pressure by 53 percent and the beverage industry also seeing a whopping 37 percent increase.

Some of the other 19 sectors are making significant cuts. First and foremost, the beleaguered event industry (-80.9%). But the media sector (-70.5%), leisure, catering, tourism (-68.7%) and tobacco products (-64.1%) are also losing more than two-thirds of their advertising print compared with January 2020. Food (-7.4%), cosmetics and personal care (-10.5%), pharmaceuticals and health (-11.3%) and telecommunications (-14.2%) are getting off lightly in comparison.

McDonald's campaign on top

The top 10 products in January contain a colorful mix of products and industries. The McDonald's campaign is at the top of the list, followed by Home24.ch. The best way to place an order for new furniture is with the new Apple iPhone 12 Pro in 3rd place. Weight Watchers on rank 4 helps one to get rid of the home office pounds again and to implement the New Year's resolutions. Two new cars follow in 5th and 7th place - the Renault Clio Hybrid and the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid SUV. In between, Pharma und Gesundheit ranks with Triofan Schnupfen. UPC Giga Internet and campaigns by Coke and Amazon complete the top 10.

Out-of-home high further slowed in January

The high for out-of-home advertising in summer 2020 comes to an abrupt end. What was already apparent in winter 2020 manifested itself in January with a decline of 53.1 percent. The share of the media mix thus slips below 10 percent for the second time in a row (9.3%). But the other media groups also have to accept high declines. Internet advertising is down significantly (-48.3%), as is print (-31.1). Cinema advertising continues to be non-existent. TV (-14.3%) and radio (-10.9%) show only moderate losses in January 2021, compared to the other media groups. TV thus remains the strongest media group with a share of 36.2 percent of the media mix, followed by print with 26 percent and the Internet with 25.5 percent.

Visable wants to help companies acquire new customers

Visable, the provider of Europages and Wlw, has expanded its portfolio of online marketing services to include a new tool for generating leads online. The product, «Website Leads,» is designed to allow customers to see who is visiting their website after implementing a so-called tracking pixel on their homepage.

Website_Leads_Company_List

"Lead generation in the B2B sector is particularly difficult in times of coronavirus. Usual opportunities to present your company and product range, especially trade fairs or other networking events, have been undermined by the coronavirus pandemic. Field service visits are also much more difficult to implement. There is no decisive interaction with the other person. This is currently a problem for many companies. Website Leads therefore offers a new way to see who is interested in your offer and to get in touch with potential new customers," explains Daniel Keller, Technical Director of Visable.

Install tracking pixels, generate leads

But how does Website Leads work? First, the individual tracking pixel is integrated into the company's own website. Different company data is recorded using tracking pixel technology. The company name, address, website and time of the visit are then transmitted to the customer. This data is tracked and displayed in a list that the customer can view in their Wlw account. All companies that have recently surfed the company website are displayed here.

Website Leads aims to offer a supplement to the company profile on Wlw: On the one hand, providers can view the visitors to their profile, while on the other, the tracking pixel gives them an additional overview of who is visiting their company website. This should provide an optimal overview of which buyers are really interested in your offer.

Data protection compliant for new contacts

According to Visable, Website Leads is data protection compliant, as Visable only passes on company data. It also works without cookies. To ensure that all legal requirements are met during use, Visable recommends that its customers adapt their privacy policy in advance. A sample text is available for this purpose, which each customer can easily adapt for themselves.

"With Website Leads, we have created an easy way for companies to generate new leads. By submitting their contact details, companies are ultimately able to acquire potential new customers and thus effectively promote their growth," says Daniel Keller.

The long-hyped startup made good progress in its expansion, both online and offline. The dismantling concerns the Handelszeitung Switzerland as well, according to reports. A company spokeswoman confirmed that the two stores in Bern and Zurich will be closed. "It will affect eleven employees at our two Swiss locations." Exact dates have not yet been set, she said.

According to the latest figures, Mymuesli has an annual turnover of three million euros in Switzerland and intends to continue growing regionally online. The company says it is focusing on French-speaking Switzerland.

Facebook blocks news in Australia over publisher dispute

Amid the controversy over a proposed online media law in Australia, Facebook is blocking the sharing of news articles in the country. A Facebook executive said Thursday that the company had decided to take this step «with a heavy heart.».

facebook-76536_1280

Users in Australia will no longer be able to share content from Australian or international news sites. Facebook had already threatened to introduce such a measure on Wednesday.

The measure quickly led to problems on the Facebook pages of Australian authorities responsible for combating the coronavirus pandemic and natural disasters. The Facebook pages of at least three health authorities, on which up-to-date information on the coronavirus pandemic had previously been published, were affected by the restrictions.

Interactions everywhere

Environment Minister Sussan Ley also announced that the meteorological authority's Facebook page could no longer operate normally due to the restrictions. The problems occurred just as the agency was warning of the risk of flash flooding in the state of Queensland. In the state of Western Australia, on the other hand, the fire authority's Facebook page remained blank - even though there is a risk of catastrophic forest and bush fires.

Australia is planning strict regulation of the digital news market. Accordingly, Facebook, like Google, is to pay Australian media companies usage fees for the distribution of their journalistic content in future. A corresponding bill provides for fines in the millions in the event of infringements in future. In this way, part of the advertising revenue of the US online giants is to be passed on to the traditional media companies.

Other solutions

While Facebook has now intensified the dispute over the law with its blocking measures, Google is focusing on de-escalation. In recent days, the company has negotiated several agreements with Australian media companies to publish their content on the Google News service.

A corresponding agreement was concluded with News Corp, the company owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch, among others. As part of this agreement, Google will make "substantial payments" to News Corp, the US internet giant announced. Google did not provide any specific details on the amount of these payments. (SDA)

Agence Trio lays its cards on the table for Swiss Casinos

Swiss Casinos is already very well known in German-speaking Switzerland. Now the brand wants to increase its visibility in French-speaking Switzerland. Agence Trio is set to help it hit the jackpot in French-speaking Switzerland.

Swiss Casinos (© Agence Trio)

Since the entry into force of the new law on gambling in 2019, the market for online games is reserved solely for casinos established in the country. So how do you win a place in the heart of the French-speaking Swiss public, who are more used to other online platforms? Agence Trio has relied on a content strategy to increase brand awareness and trust capital among French-speaking players.

The campaign, launched in June last year, included several stages. An audience survey, the development of an editorial calendar, the adaptation and unification of existing content, the writing of blog articles in French, the creation of content for social media and the development of a visual identity for Switzerland's first online poker game.

The whole thing was accompanied by PR campaigns designed to position Swiss Casinos in various media in the region as an enlightener, demystifying a previously very closed milieu - and thus challenging its competitors. According to Agence Trio, the measures would have reached more than 2.3 million people.

Cooperation continues

The collaboration between Agence Trio and Swiss Casinos will enter the next round in early 2021 and already shows which way the wind is blowing: "Faites vos jeux, rien ne va plus!"

Responsible at Swiss Casinos: Marc Baumann (CEO), Marco Zemp (Head of Communication), Elvira Esposito (Digital Marketing Planner). Responsible at Agence Trio: Michael Kamm (CEO), Maxime Chabloz (Account Manager), Stéphanie Etienne (Art Director), David Chauvet (PR Manager), Philippe Bystranowski (Copywriter), Sainath Bovay (Interactive Media Designer).

MAZ and ZHAW introduce new CAS Innovation in Journalism

Starting in September 2021, the MAZ—The Swiss School of Journalism—and the Institute for Applied Media Studies (IAM) at ZHAW will offer the new CAS in Innovation in Journalism. The CAS is designed to help journalists systematize their knowledge and skills and prepare themselves for the digital transformation while continuing to work.

MAZ_ZHAW_Medienmitteilung_CAS_Innovation_im_Journalismus
Presenting the new CAS Innovation in Journalism: The two co-instructors Vinzenz Wyss and Frank Hänecke (from left to right).

The IAM and the MAZ have jointly developed the new CAS Innovation in Journalism. The MAZ in Lucerne is responsible for the implementation and the majority of the course days will also take place there. The IAM is to ensure the quality of the new offering with its professional, scientific and didactic expertise and is responsible for compliance with the requirements for a university degree.

For both, it is clear that journalism has changed fundamentally and that the change is continuing. Those who work in this volatile professional field must question routines and attitudes and acquire new competencies, write the IAM and the MAZ in a joint statement. "Innovative technologies for information acquisition, processing and production as well as for the organization of work and its distribution only unfold their meaning in social practice. It is high time, therefore, that vocational training, together with experienced journalists, addresses the professionalization of these practices," explains Vinzenz Wyss, Professor of Journalism at the IAM and co-director of the new CAS.

Journalistic profile of a comprehensive MAS program

"The CAS Innovation in Journalism combines practical knowledge with innovation competence and offers journalists a Swiss university qualification for contemporary professional mobility," Frank Hänecke, MAZ director of studies and co-director of the new continuing education program, is quoted as saying in the press release. The CAS allows modern journalism to be supplemented and deepened at the master's level, and is recognized as part of the IAM's MAS in Communication Management and Leadership. This MAS focuses on all fields of activity in media-mediated communication, especially organizational communication and journalism.

Digital research tools, community management, algorithmic journalism

The part-time CAS takes up current developments in professional journalism and teaches related skills. These include topic identification, research and preparation of topics in a digital environment, new possibilities of communication and interaction as well as reflection and orientation knowledge against the background of the ongoing digital transformation. Other topics include the technical framework, the latest results from media usage research, and scientific findings on new job profiles and roles.

The CAS requires at least 2 years of qualified professional experience in journalism and the completion of a basic training in journalism - such as the MAZ Diploma in Journalism or the Bachelor of Communication of the IAM - or another higher education institution (university, university of applied sciences). Practitioners with comparable additional professional competence can also be accepted "sur dossier". A minimum of five years of professional experience is required to upgrade the CAS to the MAS.
