KKR disposes of ProSieben share package

This was reported by the financial news agency on Tuesday. That would be 4.7 percent of the share capital. KKR had last reported a 6.6 percent stake in ProSiebenSat.1. Media group Axel Springer had always rejected speculation about plans for an alliance with the operator of private stations such as ProSieben, Sat.1, Kabel 1 and online platforms.

KKR and ProSieben did not want to comment on the placement. According to Bloomberg, the shares are to be placed at a price between 13.42 euros and the Xetra closing price of 14.14 euros. This would represent a maximum price discount of 5.1 percent. The shares, which are listed in the MDax small cap index, have recently risen sharply and reached a twelve-month high on Friday. (SDA)

Startup Swissone wins in court against Toblerone

Chocolate startup Swissone wins its trademark dispute against Toblerone before the higher court of the canton of Bern. This writes the Handelszeitung in its current issue.

tobelronevsswissone

The court case came about because Toblerone parent company Mondelez/Kraft accused the young Swiss brand Swissone of likelihood of confusion and exploitation of its reputation.

The request was rejected by the court, which pleases Swissone founder and CEO Vernon Stuber. "Now we can go full throttle without a multi being able to ban us from entering the market." Now the first foreign inquiries are being examined, Stuber told the Handelszeitung, "a project in China sounds the most promising; we are currently working on that."

On the part of Toblerone parent company Mondelez/Kraft, the defeat in court is commented as follows: "Despite the disappointing outcome of the injunction proceedings, the courts recognize the strength and good reputation of our Toblerone brand and in particular the Toblerone shape. We disagree with the court's assessment of likelihood of confusion and so-called reputation exploitation." The company reserves the right to take further legal action.

Another Luga failure puts Messe Luzern in a tight spot

Due to the Corona pandemic, there will be no Luga in spring 2021. For the Lucerne Exhibition Center, this means that the trade fair with the highest turnover will be cancelled for the second time in a row.

luga-luzern

Messe Luzern on Tuesday justified the cancellation of the Central Switzerland adventure fair with the trade fair ban, which the Federal Council had issued in October 2020 for an indefinite period, as well as with the current development of the pandemic. This brings a great planning uncertainty.

Various scenarios for Luga 2021 have been worked out in recent months, the statement said. However, the adventure fair lives from proximity and contact opportunities. Because of the necessary protection concepts, however, it sees no chance to organize the fair in 2021 in the known form.

Each attracted 120,000 people

The Luga takes place every year at the end of April/beginning of May on the Lucerne Allmend and attracts around 120,000 visitors. It had already had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the corona pandemic.

For Messe Luzern, this means that once again the trade fair with the highest sales will be cancelled. For the current financial year, which ends at the end of June 2021, a decline in sales of 95 percent is expected. The company's financial situation is consequently described as "strained" in the statement. Until the summer, however, operations can be maintained without further layoffs, it said.

Messe Luzern benefits from the fact that Lumag AG, which owns the exhibition buildings, is granting it a rent reduction of CHF 3 million. The survival of the company can also be supported with one million francs each from insurance benefits and its own reserves. In addition, there will be short-time working compensation and cost-cutting measures.

One ray of hope for Messe Luzern is the cantonal Corona vaccination center. This also helps to keep the company alive, it was added. From autumn 2021, however, it must be possible to hold trade fairs and events again. (SDA)

The retailer and the young podcast agency explored the question of how Coop can bring its love of food even closer to the Fooby community. The result is the "We Love Food Talk, a podcast series with ten episodes for the time being. In it, the creative makers behind the Fooby platform are brought into focus by the audio law firm. From Fooby, for Foodies.

In the 20-minute talks, interviewer Priscilla Medrano not only looks into the creative content creators' pots and pans, but also into their day-to-day work.

The podcast as an ideal marketing tool

Dino Giglio, founder and project manager of Audiokanzlei, is pleased with the result. "It was great fun for us to implement the project. From scripting the individual podcast episodes to visiting these exciting people in our mobile recording studio, the "PodCar", with which we were able to travel all over Switzerland, to post-production and distribution."

The PodCar can also be rented for in-house podcast productions, but Giglio is also noticing in the new year that companies - as with Coop's Fooby project - are eager to take advantage of his full-management offering, which allows him and his Audiokanzlei team to work closely with clients to deliver streaming-ready podcasts. "In these socially distant times, everyone craves closeness - and a podcast can deliver that like no other medium," Giglio says.

SRF 1, SRF zwei and SRF info achieved a total market share of 30.7% in 2020 despite the cancellation of major sporting events. In prime time, the most important broadcasting time in the evening, the market share of the three TV channels was 39.7%.

With 1.493 million viewers, the main edition of "Tagesschau" on March 19 was the most-watched program in 2020 in the first few days after the nationwide shutdown. At the same time, it was the most successful "Tagesschau" ever since the measurement method was changed in 2013.

With an average of 811,000 viewers, never before since 2013 have so many people watched the main edition of "Tagesschau" as last year. According to the report, "Tagesschau" exceeded the million mark 62 times.

Due to the great interest of the population in information offerings throughout the year, SRF 1's market share of 22.2 percent was significantly higher than the previous year's figure (2019: 19.5 percent), while SRF Zweit lost market share due to the temporary discontinuation of live sport (2020: 6.4 percent; 2019: 9.8 percent).

Online offering also in demand

SRF's information offering also attracted a lot of attention online: on 16 March, the day the Federal Council announced the nationwide shutdown, the SRF News online offering reached 2.1 million visits, the second-highest figure in 2020. Around the peak of the second coronavirus wave in October, November and December, there was an average of 1.4 million visits per day.

On November 4, one day after the US elections, the SRF News online offering recorded 3.2 million visits, the highest figure since measurements began.
The SRF News app was also very popular in 2020. It recorded an average of 477,000 visits per day. This corresponds to growth of 160 percent compared to the previous year.

The increase was less pronounced at Radio SRF, where the market share rose from 54.4% in 2019 to 54.8%. Radio SRF 1 remained the market leader in all concession areas in German-speaking Switzerland. (SDA)

Telegram registers 25 million new users within 72 hours

The messaging service Telegram has gained about 25 million new users in 72 hours. As the app's Russian founder, Pavel Durov, announced on Tuesday, the platform currently has about 500 million monthly active users. This brings Telegram closer to its U.S. competitor, WhatsApp.

telegram_app

The surge in Telegram downloads came shortly after WhatsApp introduced new privacy terms. The new rules allow more data to be shared with parent company Facebook. The changes have drawn criticism because users outside Europe who do not agree to the terms before February 8 will be barred from the app.

"People no longer want to give away their privacy for free services," Durow said, without referring specifically to WhatsApp. Telegram is the "biggest haven" for those seeking a private and secure communication platform, he added. Durow assured users that his team "takes this responsibility very seriously."

The messaging app was founded in 2013 by brothers Pavel and Nikolai Durov, who also launched the Russian online network VKontakte. Because Telegram refuses to cooperate with authorities and share encryption, the app is banned in Russia and elsewhere. (SDA)

Declining advertising: Freiburg News cuts 5.5 jobs

The German-language Freiburg daily newspaper *Freiburger Nachrichten* (FN) is cutting 5.5 of its 47.1 full-time positions. The reason for this is a 20 percent decline in advertising revenue since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

freiburgernachrichten

According to a statement by the director and editor-in-chief in Wednesday's edition of the FN 1.5 jobs in administration and prepress will have to be eliminated through layoffs. The remaining positions will be eliminated through natural attrition, retirement or early retirement.

In the editorial department, a vacant position will not be filled.

Thanks to short-time work, a great effort and support measures from the federal government and the canton, the company was able to come through the first Corona year unscathed, the report continues. However, the long-term prospects for the advertising market are gloomy and a recovery is not foreseeable in the short term.

The FN are the only German-language daily newspaper in the bilingual canton of Fribourg and an independent company. It also includes the Murtenbieter and the Kerzers scoreboard. (SDA)
