Three times more calls via Swisscom mobile network - calls interrupted

On Monday, calls made via landlines or cell phones were interrupted for some Swisscom customers. The increase in people working from home led to system overload starting at 9 a.m. Swisscom is working to expand capacity.

Swisscom-logo

Swisscom recorded three times more calls on the mobile network than usual in the morning, as the company announced on request. The volume on the fixed network also increased massively, writes Swisscom. Some private and business customers could therefore no longer make clean calls on fixed or mobile networks. Previously, the news portal Nau.ch had reported on the disruption.

The telecommunications behavior of customers is currently unpredictable. The company writes that employees are currently monitoring the networks much more closely than usual and are taking ongoing measures. However, an occasional overload cannot be ruled out in principle.

Internet data traffic can also come to a standstill - for example, if companies have not equipped their systems for increased access via the Internet. This can lead to bottlenecks in accessing the company's infrastructure.

Swisscom will provide customers with more bandwidth on request if the physical lines are sufficient. However, Swisscom said that priority would clearly be given to customers who provide a central service for the national supply, i.e. who are system-relevant.

Swisscom currently assumes that there is still sufficient capacity in the data network infrastructure despite the increase in home offices. Home office work does not require as many resources as, for example, streaming TV or Netflix, but only a "small proportion of the total traffic". Last week, data traffic was in the low single-digit percentage range of the total network load. (SDA)

No half measures

Nested Estate Agents« current TV campaign takes a hard line against »traditional" real estate agencies.

Nested-Estate-Agents-keinehalbensachen

A restaurant where you have to prepare your own food (and even slaughter it, depending on the situation), a midwife who packs her things during childbirth, and paramedics who don't drive the accident victim to the hospital. The absurdity of the situations shown in the commercials increases almost immeasurably.

With the dramatizations the London real estate agency "Nested Estate Agency" refers to from agency view similarly incomprehensible practices of the real estate agents, who make also only a half job. Because either they worry only about the sales of the real estate of the customer, or they offer a real estate to the customer - but never both at the same time.

Here Nested sees itself as a "double agent", because the business model of the London real estate agency includes both aspects: It takes care of both the sale of the current property and offers potential new properties at the same time - at no extra charge.

A clear announcement to all other real estate agencies, which comes from the pen of the London agency Neil A Dawson & Company.

Grocers ask for no hoarding purchases via ad

At the end of last week, customers repeatedly cleared the shelves at major retailers' stores out of fear of supply shortages. Now, Swiss grocery retailers are jointly urging customers to refrain from panic buying.

In an advertisement, the retailers state that the country's supply is sustainable and that enough food and necessities are available for everyone. They said they were working closely with federal agencies and suppliers and would also be making even more frequent deliveries to stores to ensure racks were replenished quickly. "Hoarding purchases is absolutely unnecessary," they say.

The ad was placed by all major food retailers in Switzerland, i.e. Coop, Migros, Aldi, Lidl, Spar, Denner, Manor and Volg. The advertisement appeared on Monday in the ViewHowever, according to the Swiss Retail Federation, it will appear in other media in the coming days.

In the letter, the retailers also appeal to the solidarity of their customers: Those who buy more than necessary and make hoarding purchases may ensure that others go empty-handed. In addition, this would put undue strain on employees - in an otherwise already very challenging time. (SDA)

The ad has now also been placed on web portals such as 20 Minuten (screenshot 20min.ch).

Lucerne web design workshop creates new website communities for small businesses

Webdesign-Werkstatt in Lucerne operates industry-specific website networks, so-called "website communities", on its new "Swiss-Pages" platform. The full service offered includes an individually designed homepage, an Internet address on the appropriate industry domain and professional website maintenance in three package variants.

Domain and website sharing is a concept that is entirely geared towards the needs of small businesses. An important trigger for the development of the concept was the fact that the needs of small businesses are often given too little consideration in today's web design landscape and that either "cannons are shot at sparrows" or vice versa.

The website communities are designed in such a way that one search engine optimized website is created for each provider. The content focuses on the essentials and informs visitors in a clear manner. Elements such as pop-ups, advertising banners, live chats and tracking, which are generally perceived as annoying, are avoided and emphasis is placed on carefully created content.

With the website communities, the Operator of Swiss-Pages The company has three goals: visitor-friendly websites with authentic content, good positioning in search engines and comprehensive data protection.

Subtlety for SRK: A Game as an Info-Vehicle

With a game for the Swiss Red Cross, the Feinheit agency aims to encourage people to expand their knowledge of development aid and reinforce what they already know.

swiss-pages-screenshot

The aim of the Swiss Red Cross mission was to provide interested parties with sound information on the subject of development aid so that it is fundamentally more widely understood. Proponents of development cooperation should also be able to learn more facts that underline the effectiveness of development cooperation.

Feinheit had proposed to achieve this goal through gamification, thus imparting knowledge without it feeling like imparting knowledge. The result is an online duel, the so-called "Redcross Challenge"in which anyone and everyone can compete with a prominent personality: Who knows where in the world the most Syrian refugees live? How many children are malnourished?

The playful implementation and the duel situation are intended to provide users with a positive, relaxed experience despite the serious subject matter. Together with its sister company Blindflug Studios, Feinheit has been exploring the educational use of games and gamification since 2013.

The production of the "Redcross Challenge" was done in-house at Feinheit. From the website to the final screen "You won" or "You lost", user journeys were created for which a wide variety of elements had to be produced. Feinheit was responsible for the campaign concept, the production of the challenge website (design, front-end and back-end), the creation of the questions and answers, the production of various multimedia contents for the website, but also for the communication and marketing in the digital campaign.

SRG responds to school closures and adjusts programming

In view of the schools closing tomorrow, SRG is adapting its radio and TV programming and its online platforms to the special situation in all language regions from March 16 until further notice. Children's and youth programming in particular will be expanded.

srgssr-logo

SRG offers a comprehensive range of information on the current pandemic situation. Now, due to the special situation, it is further adapting its offering in all language regions as of tomorrow, Monday. In particular, children's and youth programming will be expanded immediately in view of the schools closing tomorrow. The offering for older people and those interested in film and culture will also be expanded.

For example, SRF is expanding the "SRF mySchool" program in cooperation with teachers' associations, extending the successful online format "Zwei am Morge" to the TV channel SRF zwei, continuously increasing the number of explanatory videos and planning special interactive programs on the radio channels that address the current situation. In addition, virtual museum tours are being clarified, more radio plays, podcasts and request concerts will be included in the program and various other formats are to be added on an ongoing basis.

An expansion of the children's and youth offering is also taking place at RTS with more animated and documentary films for young people. The online platform "RTS Découverte" is available for distance learning. Access to archive content is also simplified. Music and film festivals that cannot currently be held live in French-speaking Switzerland are given a platform in RTS programs. In addition, RTS is including various special concerts in its programming - for example, by the "Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne" or the "Orchestre de la Suisse Romande". And a special information program for young people will be launched soon.

RSI is also adapting its programming in Italian-speaking Switzerland. In the mornings, for example, RSI LA 2 offers a special program for gymnastics suitable for children and senior citizens. During the day and in the evenings, RSI offers local TV series, popular feature films and dialect comedies. Music and literary evenings are also being developed. Interactive programs are broadcast on the radio to help alleviate people's situations. The same offer will be implemented on the online platforms.

For Rhaeto-Romanic Switzerland, RTR operates a special and well-visited pandemic landing page. And RTR is also expanding its youth programming: For example, more animated films are being shown in Romansh and more radio plays and request concerts are being broadcast.

Finally, SRG is increasing the amount of Swiss music on all its stations to support Swiss artists.

The programming adjustments will be made successively starting tomorrow, Monday, March 16, 2020.

SRG orders up to 2500 employees to work from home

The Swiss radio and television company SRG has ordered some of its employees to work from home to protect themselves from the corona virus. Up to 2,500 of the total of around 7,000 employees will have to work in their home offices from next week.

srgssr-logo

The order of the SRG management on Thursday is valid for the time being until April 5, as the SRG announced in the evening. The step was taken to protect employees and the performance mandate.

The home office applies to around 30 percent of the workforce, said an SRG spokesperson in response to a request from the Keystone-SDA news agency. Among others, editors as well as administration staff are affected.

For the SRG, the health protection of employees and the maintenance of the performance mandate have the highest priority, the statement says. The concession stipulates that SRG has a service mandate in times of crisis, must ensure this and therefore the necessary organizational and technical measures must be taken.

With the mandatory home office for that part of the employees who would not necessarily have to be present on site, all other employees who would have to work at an SRG site to fulfill the performance mandate would be better protected. (SDA)
