Net advertising revenues of the last years corrected

The AWS Outdoor Advertising Switzerland Association, in collaboration with the Swiss Advertising Statistics Foundation, has redefined the categorization of outdoor advertising and has recompiled data from the past three years in accordance with the updated definitions.

The data of the advertising statistics published in the last years were based on incomplete data deliveries and showed this year in the area of billboard advertising a sales development which does not correspond to the result of the entire industry, as the association AWS announced on Wednesday. The grouping of outdoor advertising was consequently redefined and the data of the past three years was collected again according to updated definitions. In case of missing data, the data was supplemented with estimates. Below you will find the new definitions as well as the corrected figures.

New definitions

The source is the survey conducted by the association AWS Aussenwerbung Schweiz among its members and other providers of outdoor advertising, as well as by the trade association Schweizer Neonfirmen.
Outdoor advertising is generally defined as anything that the public can see free of charge as an advertising message when it is on public or private property and which falls under the concept of changing third-party advertising. For the statistics, the advertising media were surveyed that are available to the advertising industry on a short-term basis for 7, 14 days, seasonally (posters) or even on a long-term basis for 4 to 10 years (neon signs). For the previously published categories of sports and stadium advertising, as well as "other outdoor advertising," there are no longer any figures available that represent clearly defined segments of the overall market. For this reason, data from these areas is not published. The following four subcategories are shown:

Poster advertising (analog)

All types of posters in F4, F12, F200, and F24 formats on private and public property. In addition, megaposters and poster or special formats in tourist areas and at airports.

Poster advertising (digital)

All display forms of digital, bookable communication spaces (such as eBoards/ePanels and screens >55 inches) on private and public property (incl. tourism areas as well as airports).

Transport advertising

All advertising displayed in and on rolling stock of transport companies, SBB and private railroads, postbuses and private transport companies in analog and digital form (longitudinal, side and rear panels, full-panel advertising, hanging and sliding boxes, banners, info screens, etc.).

Neon advertising

The figures shown here for "Neonschriften" contain the information provided by the Association of Swiss Neon Companies.

KMU-Magazin: fresh appearance

The business magazine for SMEs is starting the new year with a new design and new formats. The publication date is December 27, 2012.

KMU-Magazin sees itself as a premium trade journal with a focus on knowledge transfer for decision-makers in SMEs. The revised layout and editorial content represent a modernization without losing continuity, according to a press release. New fonts, information boxes as well as new formats and elements are intended to ensure better reader orientation. The SME magazine is primarily aimed at imparting knowledge, but there will be more direct references to readers. A monthly interview, top managers on the cover and commentaries by external authors on economic and economic policy topics are intended to make the magazine more emotional.

"We have the know-how, the ability and the ambition to master the flood of information, to select in a target group-oriented manner and to not only reflect practical knowledge based on precise knowledge of the needs of decision-makers in SMEs, but also to make it available for implementation by the reader," says Editor-in-Chief Michael Drosten. At its core, KMU-Magazin remains the tried-and-tested premium medium for a premium readership.

The term "knowledge platform" is deliberately used in the claim, as the aim is cross-media communication. As a first step, the online presence will also be adapted. In the coming months, new functionalities will be added to the website to offer readers added value.

SSM: in solidarity with Syndicom and Imprint

The Swiss Syndicate of Media Professionals SSM, the trade union for the electronic media, is dismayed by the termination of the collective labor agreement by publishers in French-speaking Switzerland.

Especially in times of media upheaval, the regulatory function of collective labor agreements negotiated by social partners is needed, writes SSM in a statement on the current events in French-speaking Switzerland. It is therefore incomprehensible that the publishers are putting this advantage at risk by terminating the CLA.

The fact that there has been no CLA in German-speaking Switzerland for years proves that working conditions are deteriorating in a situation without a contract - with the known negative effects on the journalistic quality of newspapers and magazines. From this point of view, too, the dismissal is a fatal and worrying sign.

SSM is therefore calling on publishers and their associations to regulate working conditions by concluding decent collective labor agreements. SSM assures the leading trade unions Syndicom and Impressum of its support and solidarity and encourages all journalists to stand up for their CLA.

Last but not least: important message!

Now that the "Yearbook on Media Quality" is over, the online media can finally devote themselves to the really relevant topics again. Tagesanzeiger.ch sets the bar for relevance high. Even Blick.ch is struggling to keep up.

If this isn't newsworthy: In the middle of Dresden, unknown people have built a giant phallus out of snow with great skill. In the middle of Dresden!

Screeshot: Tagesanzeiger.ch

Although Blick.ch tried to outdo the news value of this report in the first half of the week - the title goes to the Tages-Anzeiger! The competition was tough, as the following examples show.

The inclined viewer quickly realizes: the Gurten-Petz has borrowed his bright white laugh from a toothpaste model. Although it is not yet known who will be playing at the festival, the bear teaser has already been well received. Anticipation for the Gurten fan...
