Edito+Klartext with new sponsorship

The Swiss media magazine Edito+Klartext has a new sponsor. The journalist organizations Schweizer Syndikat Medienschaffender SSM, Impressum and Syndicom have recently founded the Edito+Klartext association.

SRF journalist Daniel Hitzig is the president of the new sponsorship association. The publishing house is based at Bachmann Medien in Basel. The journalistic line of the magazine will remain as previously defined, according to a press release from the media magazine. Editorial independence is guaranteed by statute.

The magazine is published six times a year with a circulation of around 12,000 copies. Since spring 2011, it has been the responsibility of a joint venture between the Klartext Foundation and the Edito publishing association. This will now be replaced on 1 January 2013 by the new association, which will be supported by the three media organizations.

BCP becomes more digital

The 2013 BCP will kick off on January 7, 2013. Companies and corporate publishing service providers can then once again submit their publications for consideration in the BCP Best of Corporate Publishing competition.

Not only has the jury been enlarged, but the digital categories have also been adapted. Nine BCP Awards will be presented in this area alone. This was announced by the Forum Corporate Publishing in a press release from Freiga.

The jury honors CP media in 28 different categories, including the best B2B and B2C customer magazines as well as employee publications and corporate books. The most outstanding reportage is sought in the "CP Excellence" category, and the most effective and efficient CP medium is honored with the "CP Impact" award. In addition, four special prizes will be awarded: Steinbeis Papier honors publications with a high sustainability factor with the "Green Publishing" award and the Laserline printing company from Berlin honors CP media with outstanding print finishing and print processing with the "Print & Innovation" special prize. Special prizes will also be awarded for the "Cover of the Year" and for international communication concepts.

"We are looking forward to the upcoming BCP and the many different submissions. We know from experience that the quality of the media is constantly increasing, because the demands that CP has to meet are rising year on year. It will not be easy for the jury at the BCP 2013 to determine the best of the best," says Michael Höflich, Managing Director of Forum Corporate Publishing.

More interaction through social media

The organizer of the competition, Forum Corporate Publishing, is also expanding its communication platforms with the BCP 2013. Audience Council appreciates SRG consumer magazines

The five SRG Public Advisory Boards have reviewed the consumer programs aired by RSI, RTS, and SRF. The Public Advisory Boards are concerned about the increasing legal challenges faced by program executives prior to the broadcast of certain content.

Overall, the Audience Councils attest to the very good standard of the broadcasts with high quality and a good response. They offer the audience important information and valuable services - also on the Internet. The Audience Councils wrote this in a press release on Friday.

At a national level, the Presidiums of the five Audience Councils work in a joint working group. As in 2011, a joint monitoring topic was also determined this year, which was worked on in parallel to the regular monitoring plan of the Audience Councils organized by language region. The following SRG consumer magazines were monitored:

- Espresso (SRF - Radio DRS 1)
- Kassensturz (SRF - Television SF 1)
- On en parle (RTS - Radio La1ère)
- A bon entendeur (RTS - Television RTS 1)
- Usi e consumi (RSI - Radio Rete 1)
- Patti Chiari (RSI - Television RSI Uno)

According to the Audience Council working group, consumer programs are special, audience-oriented programs. Certain regionally differentiated characteristics are understandable. For example, the simple décor of the Kassensturz program would not go down well in French-speaking Switzerland. The influence from Italy is noticeable in the RSI broadcasts. However, the "spectacularization of information" goes too far for some audience members. This makes cooperation between the editorial teams all the more important and helpful, they continue.

An exchange across language borders is not institutionalized everywhere, which was criticized by some members of the Audience Council. "A bon entendeur" and "Kassensturz" already work together sporadically and can share topics and tests. However, a comparison of the programs is difficult to make due to the different sizes of the editorial teams and the culturally different demands of the audience, according to the audience council members, and the convergent editorial team of "Espresso" and "Kassensturz" can be seen and heard in the program. One or two topics per week are tackled together and broadcast on radio and television. The collaboration is worthwhile in terms of content and also financially.

The Councils are impressed by the information on the associated website for all programs, and also appreciate the interactive options. The audience councils recommend linking the websites to each other. The various product tests were also of interest across language barriers. However, it is important to the audience councils that the general conditions of the tests are published. With the consumer programs, SRG provides the "public service par excellence".

DAPD drops lawsuit against AP - Out-of-court settlement

The German news agency DAPD has settled its dispute with its American partner, AP, out of court. AP had unilaterally terminated its licensing agreement with DAPD for the supply of text and images. DAPD had filed a lawsuit in response.

Melanie Ahlemeier, a member of the DAPD's editorial team, confirmed on Friday that the DAPD has now dropped the lawsuit, according to the German media blog Meedia. The hearing before a New York court scheduled for December 18 has been canceled. The DAPD is likely to have received financial compensation as part of the out-of-court settlement, according to the Meedia blog. Ahlemeier did not wish to comment on this information. The DAPD editorial team was surprised by the latest development.

DAPD will lose its AP license at the end of January 2013 as a result of the out-of-court settlement. While this license was described as life insurance for DAPD some time ago, it is now said that DAPD could make it without the AP license. DAPD filed for insolvency on October 2, 2012. Shortly afterwards, AP terminated its license to supply the German news agency with texts and images. At the same time, AP concluded a license agreement with the market leader dpa.

SDA is looking for solutions for Switzerland

The DAPD had ceded the rights for the distribution of AP texts in Switzerland to the Swiss Press Agency SDA. SDA is now looking for solutions with the new rights holder DPA in order to be able to continue to offer SDA customers AP reports around the clock.

Meanwhile, the sell-off in the DAPD Group continues. After DDP Direct (distribution of original text messages) and the French SIPA Group, the holding company HQTA, the former DAPD Media Holding, is now also selling off the picture agency DDP Images. The two managing directors of DDP Images, Katharina Doerk and Ulf Schmidt-Funke, are taking over the picture agency. HQTA will retain Airmotion, which distributes news about car on-board systems. HQTA works together with the Daimler car company. (SDA)

Xaver.13 with new appearance

For the twelfth time, the Expo-Event.Live Communication Association of Switzerland is honoring the best trade show and event projects from the past year. The association has recently revamped its visual identity.

With a reduced appearance in gold on black, the significance of the Xaver for the industry and the winners is to be underlined. Following a Xaver tradition, this year's award ceremony will take place at a new location in Zurich: At Komplex 457. The program has undergone a lift. The aim is to optimize the mix of information and entertainment, promote transparency and offer the nominees an ideal platform for their presentations, the organizer said in a statement on Friday.

Each applicant will still present their project themselves so that the audience can get to know the nominated submissions comprehensively. However, the presentations will be shortened in favor of a direct comparison of the nominees in a panel discussion. The moderators and jury members will question the conception, approach and challenges of the projects live on stage to give the audience a concrete and critical insight.

The jury evaluates equally the idea and concept (originality, innovation, authenticity); as well as the implementation and accompanying measures (implementation / adherence to strategy, communication measures, inclusion of objectives / target group) and the controlling, respectively the follow-up (proof of success / achievement of objectives, cost / benefit ratio). The jury can also decide at any time to award a special prize across all categories, the statement continues. Hans-Jürg Rufener is presiding over the jury for the third time. Norman Bandi is also participating as a press representative for the third time. There will also be some changes for Xaver.13: With Claus Holtmann, the jury will once again be international. Iris Hildebrand will support the jury from the specific client perspective, and Pius Sidler will take a strict look at communication integration and the impact of the projects.

The Xaver will take place on April 16, 2013.

Press promotion: price reduction for around 1,200 titles

Next year, 1,222 publications will receive a price reduction for delivery by Swiss Post: 140 daily and weekly newspapers and 1,082 membership press titles. The Confederation provides a total of CHF 50 million annually for press promotion.

Parliament has allocated CHF 30 million for the promotion of daily and weekly newspapers in the regional and local press and CHF 20 million for newspapers and magazines published by non-profit organizations. This was announced by the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) on Friday. An estimated 13 million copies of newspapers no longer benefit from press subsidies, as they are distributed free of charge to non-subscribers in large periodic print runs.

Nine new titles will receive subsidies for the first time from January 1, 2013. These include 4 newspapers that will benefit from the fact that the Federal Council has also included newspapers from the general press in the postal ordinance on press subsidies. This means that 140 daily and weekly newspapers will receive price reductions, compared to 145 in 2012.

In the case of the membership and foundation press, 101 fewer publications will be subsidized than in 2012. This is mainly due to the fact that the Federal Council has now set a minimum length of six A4 pages per publication, as Bakom writes further. However, from 1 January 2013, newspapers and magazines sent to subscribers by non-profit organizations will now be subsidized. Previously, such organizations only received subsidies for newspapers and magazines that were intended for their members or donors. A total of 1,082 publications from non-profit organizations received price reductions, compared to 1,183 in 2012.
