BSSM gives away advertising campaign

While mailboxes are stuffed with colorful cards and Facebook pages are cluttered with creative games, the BSSM agency is taking a different approach: It’s giving away an advertising campaign for Christmas.

Not just like that. Companies, organizations and associations that have wanted a professional campaign for a long time are invited to take part. On the website created especially for this campaign by web partner 4eyes, they should explain why they should benefit from the campaign as a gift. An external jury consisting of Tamara Schmid, Goldbach Media, Prof. Dr. Cary Steinmann, ZHAW, and Dominik Marbet, Basel Employers' Association, will select the most convincing application, for which BSSM will then create a campaign.

"We have taken the argument 'something you create yourself is worth more than something you buy' to heart," says Urs Schneider, explaining BSSM's motivation for the Christmas campaign. "The gift campaign is a much more personal commitment than the donations we have made to charitable organizations in recent years."

Urs Schneider is confident that the hurdle for those interested in receiving the gift is easy to overcome. BSSM is looking forward to receiving many entries. BSSM is using advertisements, the internet and social media to promote the Christmas gift.

Local.ch: Switzerland loves restaurants

Eating out is apparently one of the Swiss population’s favorite pastimes. In 2012, «restaurants» was by far the most frequently searched term on Local.ch.

However, great importance was also attached to health and a well-groomed appearance. The following places show differences in the language regions. A total of around 250 million queries were analyzed for the hit parade of the most searched terms on the local.ch website, as reported by the search engine operator on Tuesday.

In culinary terms, the Swiss are among the best in the world. And that's why eating out and indulging in culinary delights is one of the country's greatest passions. It is therefore not surprising that, as in the previous year, "restaurants" was the most frequently searched for nationwide on the local.ch website. Since October, local.ch has also taken this fact into account with the special restaurant guide at Local.ch/restaurants Invoice.

Switzerland ranks second with "doctors and general practitioners". Good looks followed immediately after health in 2012 with searches for "hairdresser" and aerobics. The differences in search behavior by language are also interesting: in German, dentists are very popular, in English the search for "garage / bodywork", in Italian for "architects" and in French for "municipal administration".

Around 250 million online searches were evaluated on Local.ch in 2012 in German, French, Italian and English. What people in Switzerland searched for most frequently on local.ch in 2012:

Alex Schmid: Dialogue concept for Helsana Business

The Alex Schmid agency in Zollikon has developed a dialog and creative concept for Helsana's corporate customer division. As a special feature, the customer is to have the floor.

The insurance business thrives on the satisfaction of its customers, especially the corporate customer business, according to a statement. Alex Schmid has therefore developed a new concept for Helsana's corporate client business that places the customer at the center of the dialog. Unlike usual testimonial approaches, the target groups here are segmented according to size and needs.

The new communication in Helsana's corporate customer business takes place via segment-specific dialog measures - divided into startups, small businesses, medium-sized and large companies, and adapted to the contact points relevant to the target group. Another point: Helsana's sales regions draw most of the measures with their name. This allows them to leverage their geographic proximity to potential corporate customers in a targeted manner. In addition, the decentralized, modular mix of measures is designed to increase their efficiency.

The basic strategic idea behind the new dialog and creative concept is also expressed in the creation: For example, Helsana corporate customers primarily talk about themselves and not about Helsana. Furthermore, the message is not addressed to all companies, but only to those with the same needs and demands. In this way, Helsana benefits from the credibility and authenticity of the statements.

Last but not least: Blick explains the paywall

Tele M1 came under fire from Ringier today. The reason: the use of images that were actually intended exclusively for *Blick*.

What followed was an explanation to the Aargauer: Not everything on the Internet is free, according to editor-in-chief Ralph Grosse-Bley. Actually, one can only agree with Blick here. Taking over content from others without citing the source - fie! But you don't need a paywall or a paywall declaration for that. For a moment, there was the suspicion that Blick had secretly introduced the paywall instead of the announced paywall wait until autumn 2013 at the latest. For competing media companies, the rules of decency and etiquette apply even without a paywall.

Of course, it's a different story when a bus full of schoolchildren crashes into a tunnel wall in Valais. In March 2012, the Media Week an interview with Ralph Grosse-Bley (sic!) conducted by Ringier, in which he commented on the accusations of the Flemish media minister. The latter criticized that just because pictures are available on the Internet, they should not be used - the Swiss newspaper showed pictures of the deceased children. Found in social (and paywall-free) networks. Quote Grosse-Bley: "Look, to give this tragedy a face, to make it tangible, you can't just show a mere tunnel, a destroyed bus and a breakdown niche." One makes the newspaper for the readers, not for the press council and the media journalists of the competition.

Perhaps Tele M1 also wanted to make the murders a bit more tangible and not just show the community center of Dulliken SO (archive image). But until one day the whole world has introduced the paywall, it's one thing to respect image rights in general.

Rod: SBB children sing "Welcome Home

Following the success of the song «Welcome Home,» performed by SBB employees Selina Beyeler and Hanspeter Zweifel, SBB is expressing its gratitude at the end of the year with a Christmas version. This time, the focus is on the children of SBB employees.

Following the successful launch of the "on the road at home" campaign created by Rod Kommunikation (Werbewoche.ch reported), SBB has come up with something special for the end of the year. With a TV spot in the style of the campaign, the company will thank its customers during the holidays with a special Christmas greeting, according to a statement. The spot will once again feature the song "Welcome Home," penned by Swiss hit producer Roman Camenzind, but this time dressed up for Christmas. It is once again sung by the tried-and-tested duo Selina Beyeler and Hanspeter Zweifel, but this time the actual stars are not the two employees themselves, but the children of the SBB workforce. In a last-minute internal call, the tots were invited to Roman Camenzind's Hitmill studio on a Saturday afternoon to sing the song's chorus. And they came in droves: Between hot dogs and syrup, more than 50 kids ventured behind the microphones.

Single available

With success: The Christmas version of "Welcome Home" is also released and is available as a digital single on the popular download portals such as iTunes available. The profit is donated to a charitable organization, this time the star week of Unicef is considered.

The song from the "unterwegs zuhause" campaign, "Welcome Home," scored a success this year: It immediately entered the top 10 of the official Swiss singles chart and for a time occupied first place in the Swiss iTunes charts. The campaign's YouTube channel also recorded more than 450'000 views in the meantime. The success was an important milestone for SBB in the campaign, which is intended to give customers a pleasant "at home on the road" feeling and sensitize employees to customer- and service-oriented behavior. After a successful casting in which 100 employees applied, 22-year-old clerk Selina Beyeler and 53-year-old train driver Hanspeter Zweifel were finally chosen to record the song "Welcome Home" at Zurich's Hitmill studio.

Record number: 139 journalists killed in 2012

At least 139 journalists have been killed in 29 countries this year—either while carrying out their professional duties or as a result of them—as the year draws to a close. The nongovernmental organization Press Emblem Campaign (PEC) announced this on Monday in Geneva.

This is 30 percent more than the previous year and represents a record high. The PEC notes in its annual report that the civil war in Syria is to blame for the increase. Since January, 36 journalists have been killed in the country; 13 of them had been working for foreign media outlets. The situation in Somalia has also deteriorated significantly over the course of the year. Nineteen journalists lost their lives there. Most of them were targeted by armed groups that do not tolerate critical voices. Pakistan follows in third place with 12 victims. Three Latin American countries are also among the most dangerous for media professionals: Mexico and Brazil, each with at least 11 deaths, and Honduras, where six journalists were murdered.

There were also six victims in the Philippines in 2012 and four in Bangladesh. Three journalists were killed in each of the following countries: Eritrea, India, Iraq, Nigeria, and in the Gaza Strip during the Israeli attacks in November. Two media workers were reported killed in each of the following countries: Afghanistan, Bolivia, and Colombia. There was one fatality each in Bahrain, Cambodia, Egypt, Ecuador, Haiti, Indonesia, Nepal, Uganda, Panama, Russia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Thailand. (SDA)
