Cooala: app for brand fans

Cooala is a Swiss app designed to facilitate playful and controlled interaction between brands and their fans. Cooala aims to provide users with personalized benefits and help companies gather market research data.

Young consumers are difficult to reach with advertising, according to a statement from the developers. They also have little interest in connecting with brands on social platforms such as Facebook. According to a Forrester study from 2011, only six percent do so in the USA. Companies complain about low reach and high advertising budgets on the Zuckerberg platform, users are not sure about their data and are annoyed by the massive increase in advertising on their wall. This is exactly where Cooala comes in: Cooala users discover brands, subscribe to selected content and benefit from exclusive content and offers from their favorite companies. Users always retain full control over their data.

For users: completely playful

"What's cooler?" is the key question: Gaga or Bieber? FC Bayern Munich or Real Madrid? DC or Quiksilver? Ferrari or Mini? In various product categories, fans choose their favorite from the suggested pairs and build up their brand map. New, cool brands can be discovered with stored information and images, and all actions can be shared with friends. The best thing is that fans only subscribe to the offers from their favorite brands that interest them: an event from VW, samples from Stimorol, coupons from McDonald's or information on new products from Apple. And all in one place.

Cooala offers users:

- Playfully rate brands and share them with friends
- Discover thousands of new brands, soon also locally
- Compile favorite brands in brand boards
- Subscribe to Love Brands and receive product news, event invitations, samples, coupons, gifts and more. No spam - just exactly as subscribed.
- Complete control over contact with companies

For companies: Market research and precise targeting

The platform also offers many advantages for companies: Firstly, they no longer have to distribute their messages, information and giveaways indiscriminately and with a great deal of wastage. Thanks to Cooala, fans decide for themselves what exactly they want and only receive this content - a perfect qualitative lead. Companies communicate with their fans at eye level and with mutual consent, without spam and without loss.
Also very interesting: Cooala provides real-time market research data on its own brands and competitors, for example on a brand's coolness factor, brand development compared to the competition and user needs.

Cooala offers companies:

- Targeted contact with high-affinity target groups without wastage
- Unobtrusive, playful contact with existing and new fans
- Positioning opportunities in the competitive environment
- Anonymized market research data on your own brand and competitors
- Highly efficient tool for the fast and targeted launch of campaigns

The five Cooala partners, all experienced specialists in their fields, are working flat out to develop the app. CEO Mike Schwede is confident: "The reactions so far from the young, brand-savvy target group have been very positive. They browse through the brand profiles, play enthusiastically with the app and bring it to life with the share functions." From today, iPhone users can download Cooala in the Download Appstore. The Android version of the app is planned for spring. A slimmed-down Facebook version is in the works.

In addition to Orange8 Interactive founder and social media expert Mike Schwede, the team also includes Fabian Bürgy (Creative Director with experience at Goldbach Interactive, JvM), Sinan Yasargil (long-time iPhone developer), Ben Stähli (interactive developer) and Christian Roth (back-end developer for large companies).

Bakom: no license violation at Energy Basel

The private radio station Radio Energy Basel is not in violation of its license. This is the conclusion reached by the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom). It has therefore closed a supervisory proceeding that had been initiated by the Basel-based local station Radio X.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, OFCOM stated that the editorial team at Energy Basel has limited personnel resources. However, the number of staff is sufficient to fulfill the program mandate. This is laid down in the license granted to the local station in October 2008.

The former Radio Basel adopted the program concept of the Energy Group last January and has since been known as Energy Basel. In the course of these changes, there were also job cuts. In its proceedings opened in May, OFCOM clarified whether the station can fulfill its performance mandate with a changed workforce.
The proceedings were triggered by Radio X, another local Basel station. According to the president of its foundation board, Bakom should have re-approved the license and held a hearing because the change from Radio Basel to Energy Basel had radically changed the program.

With the new name, Energy Basel also gained new co-owners. The then sole owner Karlheinz Kögel retained 85% and brought Ringier and the NRJ Group Paris on board for the relaunch of the station. The ownership structure was not the subject of the proceedings, which have now been discontinued, Bakom also stated. (SDA)

Swiss media composers found professional association

On December 8, 2012, leading Swiss media composers founded the Swiss Media Composers Association (Smeca) in Zurich. The goal of this new professional association is to unite, represent, and support composers of commissioned music for media use.

In Switzerland, music composed specifically for films, advertising, games, websites or television is becoming increasingly important. Smeca wants to standardize and improve the working conditions of creators of media music. Among the most important contacts of the new professional association are the collecting societies and the producers' associations. A 13-member Smeca board represents the entire spectrum of media music in German- and French-speaking Switzerland. For the implementation of its goals, the board relies on the specially founded office.

In the future, clients will benefit from simply designed industry recommendations for minimum fees, production costs, rights of use and standard contracts at the Smeca association. As of February 2013, the website will serve as a hub for members, producers and partner organizations. Smeca.ch.

McKinivan Moos: Brand space for Credit Suisse

The McKinivan Moos agency has created a new brand space for Credit Suisse at Zurich Airport. At its heart is a water wall.

The new Credit Suisse brand space in the room in front of the new duty-free store welcomes arriving passengers with a multi-layered installation: passengers first enter a cloud of sound, currently seagulls twittering and the sound of the sea - in keeping with the current campaign theme with Credit Suisse client Kuoni. Once they arrive in the middle of the room, they discover a three-dimensional showcase in which the motif is realized spatially and with attention to detail. The subject's message is: "Kuoni knows that vacations are precious. Credit Suisse helps the company to shine." The 3D implementation with real sand and numerous crystal objects is intended to emphasize this message, according to the agency's press release. Finally, at the front of the brand space, passengers can expect the centerpiece of the brand space: a water wall made of Puschlav serpentine stone with the words "Welcome to Zurich" and the Credit Suisse logo. The water treatment system is state-of-the-art and has been developed with sustainability in mind.

Press Council: distorting title at Le Matin

Is a satirical article allowed to distort the facts? No, says the Press Council. At least the core of a satire must be true and the satire must be recognizable to the audience as an intention.

Le Matin headlined a short text about animal rights activist Erwin Kessler: "He wants to save the Botox bacteria". In it, the author referred to a recent federal court ruling that upheld a judgment against Kessler for defamation of the Tagesschaus spokeswoman Katja Stauber, according to the Press Council on Tuesday. The animal rights activist complained to the Press Council that Le Matin was omitting that the production of Botox was accompanied by cruel poisoning experiments on laboratory animals and that there had never been any talk of protecting the Botox bacteria. The newspaper replies that the abbreviated presentation of the facts is permissible in a satirical article.

In its statement, the Press Council recalls that professional ethical standards also apply to satirical contributions. The audience must be enabled to distinguish between facts and evaluations. In addition, the satire must be based on a true factual core. The disputed title does not fulfill this requirement. In addition, the context of the publication did not allow the readership to readily recognize the satirical intent - the text appeared on the editorial page.

Last but not least: Every rag counts

The magazine knows: It's not just every cent that counts, but every piece of skin, too. This refers to African foreskins.

SRF - SRF 2 and Radio SRF 3 - is currently collecting money again with JRZ. JRZ on SRF, so to- but not easy to say. "Every centime counts" is the name of the glass box show that brings hundreds of thousands of Swiss people together in a collective celebration of charity every year. Together, they celebrate their shared generosity. Regardless of whether a love message flickers across the screen via text message or the new single is presented unplugged - it's not just the poorest people in the world who benefit from JRZ. Simply everyone, simply great!

Speaking of great: the cover of the current issue of Das Magazin is also worth mentioning. The play on words "Every rag counts" refers to the "hunt" for foreskins in southern Africa. In the service of health and in the fight against Aids, 20 million men are to be circumcised by 2015. Yes, there is apparently a connection between HIV infection and circumcision. Even though, according to the article, this has been scientifically discussed and questioned for 20 years, the WHO supports the project and lists the removal of the foreskin as an official preventive measure. The recommended article by Fabian Dietrich can be found at Themagazine.ch be read. (hae)
