Audience Council: Criticism of SRF1 afternoon programming

The afternoon program on Radio SRF 1, which airs from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., has received mixed reviews from the Public Council. Listeners feel that there is a lack of journalistic content; Radio SRF 1’s afternoon programming is slowly shifting from a listener-focused station to a background medium.

Since mid-2012, Radio SRF 1 has continuously revised its programming. The afternoon program between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. has also undergone some changes and received new headings and greater listener participation. The audience council judges the afternoon on Radio SRF 1 as diverse and unexciting, according to a statement on Monday. Programs such as the radio play on Mondays or the "Visite" on Fridays are well received. Many council members also don't want to miss the "Hörbühne". According to a majority of council members, "Vergissi nümm" always offers surprises. For others, however, it talks too little about the music. Herzblut," the second regular column, also met with approval. Short, topical articles, such as on the planned ban on plastic bags or contributions on cultural events, are also appreciated.

However, some council members find the afternoon arbitrary and thin on content. They miss journalistically structured contributions or the earlier monothematic broadcasts. The numerous telephone voices of radio listeners do not convince the audience council in terms of quality and content. In the afternoon, Radio SRF 1 is moving away from being a radio station for listeners and towards being an accompanying medium. Overall, the audience council feels that the afternoon is a "construction site" that should still be worked on.

Wide range of music

For some council members, the afternoon's music offerings are very broad. The frequent change of music styles lends the broadcast flow a certain bumpiness. The moderation is praised as relaxed and friendly. It was well prepared and close to the listeners. Their unagitated manner, which is a great quality of the station, is also liked.

Zanetti discontinues Internet newspaper Politik.ch

Zurich SVP National Councillor Claudio Zanetti has closed down his online newspaper Politik.ch. The reason for this is a lack of money.

"We took the site offline at the end of the year," Zanetti told the NZZ am Sonntag. While maintenance and hosting were too expensive, only a small amount of revenue was generated from advertisements. According to NZZ am Sonntag, the last major customer was multimillionaire Hans-Ulrich Lehmann, who had booked advertising for his National Council candidacy and his Riverside hotel and congress center.

Zanetti and his business partner Christoph Romer are now hoping for an investor: "We are in negotiations with an entrepreneur about an investment in Politik.ch," Zanetti told the NZZ am Sonntag. The financing requirement is well over half a million francs. As the NZZ am Sonntag also writes, the internet newspaper and the talk show CC Talk on Star TV are to be produced again. However, Zanetti did not want to give any names. Just this much: neither National Councillor Christoph Blocher nor Lehmann are involved.

Last but not least: Anthems for the "we-feeling"

Companies are now using company anthems. The aim is to increase employee motivation and forget about stress and overtime.

Swiss companies are also following the trend, which originated in the USA, writes the SDA in a background report. Last year, for example, the SBB song "Welcome Home" was sung by two railroad employees (Werbewoche.ch reported). However, such company songs are often not composed exclusively for internal purposes. The cultural scientist and corporate anthem researcher Rudi Maier from the University of Applied Sciences St. Gallen calls such anthems that are used for advertising purposes "hybrids", as he told SDA. He estimates that around half of corporate anthems are composed specifically for this purpose. There are now also agencies in Switzerland that specialize in composing such anthems.

We are eagerly awaiting the compilation CD: "Best of corporate anthems from the 20 largest Swiss companies". (uma)
