Ogilvy & Mather creates IBM mailing with panache

The Ogilvy & Mather agency developed and implemented a direct-mail campaign for IBM's Managed Service Partner division. The campaign is designed to boost customer acquisition.

Ogilvy created a direct mailing for IBM that is intended to serve as a door opener and consulting entry point for Managed Service Partners among IT managers in SMEs. The idea from which the agency started: "With the right technology, more momentum comes into your company". This idea was implemented with a mailing whose main component is a high-speed spinning top. The spinning top spins, simply set in motion by hand, for around three minutes. With the right technology, it should even gain momentum for almost a quarter of an hour.

Responsible at IBM: Natalie Tschopp (Midmarket Marketing Leader), Sandra Ristic (Channel Marketing). Responsible at Ogilvy & Mather: Thomas Bolliger (Creative Director), Marcel Elsener (Concept/Text), Stephanie Van Ophuisen (AD), Samuel Hug, Nina Beriger (Consulting).

UPC Cablecom launches new TV platform Horizon

Less than a year after Sunrise's entry into the TV business, which fueled the battle for viewers, UPC Cablecom is upgrading. Next Monday, the cable network operator will launch the new TV platform Horizon, with which Cablecom is taking its TV offering into the app age.

For the first time, Cablecom customers can now also watch TV on iPad and iPhone. Until now, Swisscom has been ahead in this respect. Up to four iPads or iPhones can be connected to the new Horizon reception box at the same time, said product manager Koen Verwee at the presentation in Zurich on Friday. However, unlike Swisscom, it is not yet possible to control the TV set from an iPhone or iPad via apps. This function will come later, he said. Cablecom officials did not want to make any statements about the date. Owners of mobile devices with Android or Windows operating systems will also have to be patient.

Time-shifted TV, which allows you to watch missed programs again without having to have recorded them, is also only available in a minimal version for the SRF, MTV and Nickelodeon channels at launch. Sunrise first launched catch-up TV on a broad front in Switzerland last year. Swisscom followed suit head over heels and also introduced a replay function. For the time being, Cablecom will use an app from Internet TV provider Zattoo for time-shifted television, said Verwee. A replay function of its own will only come later, it was announced at the media conference.

One disadvantage remains the same as with the competition from Sunrise and Swisscom: customers still need one receiver per television to be able to use the full range of services. Later in the year, Cablecom plans to introduce smaller receivers that connect to the main box via the wireless Wi-Fi network. This will allow recordings to be watched on second and third televisions.

Competition has become fiercer

Cablecom CEO Eric Tveter did not want to say how many customers the cable network operator wanted to lure away from the competition with the new TV platform: "We had a record year in 2012. And I expect 2013 to be even better," said Tveter. Horizon will accelerate growth. Cablecom went on the offensive with an entry-level offer after Swisscom extended its entire TV offering to smartphones and tablet computers last summer: the cable network operator removed the encryption for 55 channels from its basic digital offering, to which Swisscom also countered with an entry-level offer for 60 TV channels. Sunrise, which had previously not taken part in the race for entry-level offers and TV on iPad and iPhone, wants to analyze the situation. "We are looking into it," said spokesman Michael Burkhardt. However, with the largest HD offering in Switzerland and the replay function, Sunrise TV has nothing to hide.

In view of the new offerings, digital television in Switzerland grew massively last year. At Swisscom, the number of customers increased by 31% to 728,000 by the end of September compared to the previous year. The number of customers of cable network operators rose by a quarter to 1.27 million. Cablecom accounts for 689,000 of these households. According to Swisscom estimates, latecomer Sunrise is likely to have attracted 24,000 customers. (SDA)

Worldwide Sony campaign with music from Zurich

Following the commercials featuring colorful balls (music: José Gonzalez) and colorful rabbits (music: The Rolling Stones), the latest Sony campaign features colorful umbrellas floating through the air. And the music comes from Switzerland.

The new Sony Nex-5R campaign is being used worldwide. For the campaign, the team of Diego Baldenweg, Nora Baldenweg and Lionel Vincent Baldenweg from the Zurich-based music production company Great Garbo created a musical composition in collaboration with the Japanese advertising agency Hakuhodo Kettle (Tokyo) and director Luzian Schlatter. The spot was produced by Markenfilm Hamburg and AIO Productions Tokyo.

The film shows an intimate journey of discovery with the camera that ends in a floating landscape of colored umbrellas. The visual experience is musically supported by a composition designed to subtly and emotionally combine classical and modern elements, according to a statement Friday. The musical composition was recorded in Zurich with live vocals as well as live violin (Tonhalle Orchestra), among others.

The soundtrack called "Colour Symphony No. 2" is now available worldwide as a Song available on all major online music portals.

Xeit develops media newsroom for SRF

Xeit conceived, designed, and implemented a media newsroom for SRF. It is intended to meet the needs of media professionals and online influencers.

The new online newsroom is divided into the main sections News, Events and Program. The news and events are made available as RSS feeds and as e-mail subscriptions. Interested parties can find current photos under the navigation point "Images". All SRF's social media presences are listed centrally in the Social Hub. This should enable SRF managers to post media releases and upcoming events in the Media Newsroom in a user-friendly way, the agency said in a press release.

Xeit also developed a tool for users that prepares individual media releases for the SRF Media Newsletter and enables them to be sent via Campaignmonitor. Technically, the online press area was realized with the open source software WordPress and adapted to the needs of SRF. A responsive design was used so that the site can be displayed attractively on different devices.
