Gestalt: Simulating the way home with "After Party

The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and the Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (BUPR) launched the smartphone game «After Party» to mark Alcohol Awareness Week, which took place from May 18 to 26, 2013. The agency Gestalt was responsible for the idea and concept.

The app aims to raise awareness among young target groups on the topics of alcohol and health as well as alcohol and road safety. With a mix of skill and knowledge, the players are tested to see how fit they are for the way home after going out. The scenario: It's the weekend and after a boisterous party, the character sets off on the way home in a drunken state. Many traps lurk on the way.

Every two years, events and activities on the subject of alcohol are held throughout Switzerland under the name Dialogue Week Alcohol, aimed at the population as a whole. The Dialogue Week is dedicated to the current alcohol prevention campaign "I talk about alcohol". The FOPH runs this campaign together with partners and 14 supporting organizations. "I talk about alcohol" is alcohol prevention to have your say. The debate on how to deal with alcohol is important because alcohol problems are still a taboo subject.

"After Party" can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store and Google Play. The app was developed by Gbanga, Zurich.

"To each his own personal Coca-Cola".

A personalized brand campaign by the company, called «Share a Coca-Cola,» is launching here in Switzerland these days. Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Light, and Coca-Cola Zero bottles will feature the 150 most common Swiss first names and nicknames.

The personalized drink is now available in stores. Fans are given the opportunity to share photos with "their" bottles online or send virtual cans to friends via a Facebook app. As a summer highlight, consumers can have their personalized Coca-Cola cans made on the spot with a name of their choice at selected events. In addition, fans can share "Coca-Cola moments" captured on photos with their personalized bottles using #shareacocacola via Twitter, Instagram and Co. or via the campaign's own online platform Shareacocacola.ch share

The campaign is accompanied by classic TV commercials as well as advertisements and posters. During the summer, consumers can have their own Coca-Cola cans made with a name of their choice in retail stores, public places, or at selected events such as the Greenfield Festival.

The aim of the "Share a Coca-Cola" campaign is to strengthen the personal connection between consumers and the products in this country. Having a say in SRG without paying for membership

The audience of SRG television and radio programs should have more say. The Federal Council is prepared to draw up a report with proposals on a corresponding demand from the National Council.

Although the entire population will soon be paying radio and television fees, only those who belong to the SRG sponsorship will be able to comment directly on programming. However, this requires membership in a regional SRG company, which costs at least 50 francs. SVP National Councillor Natalie Rickli (ZH) objects to this.

In a postulate, she demands that the rights of participation in the SRG's public service be strengthened. "If the fee payers have to pay for a program, they should also be able to have their say, free of charge," she says. The Federal Council should examine ways of doing this.

The government agrees with this, as it writes in a response to the motion published on Thursday. The SRG already offers the public a platform for criticism and suggestions for improvement, the Federal Council states. However, this should not be related to membership in the sponsorship. At present, the SRG is also examining the possibility of opening up the platform itself. (SDA)

BZM with decline in sales

Basler Zeitung Medien (BZM) reported a decline in revenue in 2012. Revenue totaled 174.6 million Swiss francs, down from 203.8 million Swiss francs the previous year.

The decline was due to the loss of sales within the printing operations (-10.3 million Swiss francs), reduced advertising and distribution revenues (-9.3 million Swiss francs), the discontinuation of brokerage in the electronic media sector by RV Radio Vision (-8.4 million Swiss francs) and the discontinuation of various ancillary activities (-1.2 million Swiss francs), BZM wrote in a statement on Thursday. In fiscal 2012, the operating loss had amounted to 10.8 million francs. Due to value adjustments on machinery and real estate, the loss increased to a total of 36 million francs.

According to the press release, a break-even result is expected for the 2013 financial year. This is due to the reorganization and restructuring measures initiated in the last quarter of 2012.

Young Aarau residents develop offer portal

Two young men from Aarau spent a year working on their new web portal, Offertube. They’ve been online for three months and hope to make their breakthrough with their startup, Dema Media.

According to the press release, the initial idea was simple. Searching for quotes for services is not easy for both laypeople and companies. To find the right company, firstly you have to know or search for them and secondly you have to contact each company individually. This often takes a lot of time and nerves. The idea for Offertube - a service portal on the Internet that solves precisely this problem - was born.

Interdisciplinary team

Marius Maissen and Marcel Thomann are behind the idea. Maissen studied journalism at the University of Zurich and now works part-time as a communications specialist for a large industry association. Marcel Thomman covers the technical side of things. As a web programmer, he is familiar with building websites and databases and has the technical know-how to create such a platform. Together they founded the start-up company Dema Media to work on their concept. However, it took longer from the basic idea to completion than the two of them expected at the beginning.

All beginnings are difficult

Once the basic idea had been formulated, the young team was quickly confronted with questions that turned out to be quite difficult. How do you ensure that only high-quality companies are involved in the platform? For which industries does such a system make sense at all and how do you actually want to earn money with it? These and other difficulties meant that the development of the service platform took longer than expected. The two young entrepreneurs are now so satisfied with the final product that they have decided to go online.

Convincing system

If a private individual or a company is looking for a service, for example catering for an event, this quote request can simply be entered on Offertube.ch. The operators have created detailed questionnaires for each sector, which define the type and scope of the order very precisely. For example, it makes a difference whether a catering service only includes the food or also the crockery and staff. The Offertube team checks the requests for completeness and seriousness and then automatically forwards them to companies that offer these services. Three of these companies can then purchase the customer's contact from Offertube and offer it in a personal meeting. Of course, it is not only possible to order sandwiches on the platform. The services on offer range from creative marketing work to legal and financial matters, cleaning services and transportation.

What does it all cost?

This service is free of charge for the customer. For the company that purchases a contact for the purpose of making an offer, Offertube only becomes chargeable when it buys a contact. Registration and receiving inquiry e-mails are free of charge. To make the system attractive, Offertube offers a registration bonus of two free customer contacts. So when a new company registers, it is not taking any financial risk, but can even test the system free of charge for the first two orders.

Good response

Even though the platform is now online, the work for the start-up company is only just beginning. With campaigns on the Internet, social media appearances and the tried-and-tested door handle cleaning, the two young entrepreneurs are constantly bringing new companies to their website, which register free of charge. In addition, the website is constantly being optimized and adapted. The response so far has been very positive. Companies have already registered in all areas. A lot still needs to happen before the platform can compete with Facebook, eBay or Google. So if you have your own company or hold a managerial position, you can register with Offertube.ch register free of charge and make a small contribution to getting the young entrepreneurs' company up and running.
