Advico: Same people, different opportunities

Advico has created a new campaign for Heks. The campaign draws attention to the fact that many people in Switzerland who are over 50 or have an immigrant background are unable to find a job.

To respond to this Topic Advico Y&R has developed a striking doppelganger campaign. The same person can be seen in two different roles: As a businesswoman and as a toilet attendant, and as a businessman and as a shoeshine boy. The campaign runs under the motto: "The job you do is not just up to you - it also depends on the opportunities you get in life."

The campaign has been on display in German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland since mid-May and is accompanied by online measures.

Freiburg News celebrates 150th anniversary

The Freiburger Nachrichten is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the canton of Fribourg’s only German-language daily newspaper published a special edition on its history on Friday.

While there were several French-language newspapers in the bilingual canton in the mid-19th century, the Fribourg News did not appear for the first time until January 1863 - at that time still under the name "Die Sense" and as a weekly newspaper. A year later, the publication adopted its current name and since the beginning of the 20th century, Fribourg News has been a daily newspaper.

In their early days, the FN, as they are known for short, still stood for conservative values. From the 1970s onward, the company opened up denominationally and politically. In 2010, the publishing house made a foray into the Seeland region of Fribourg, where the FN took over the two local papers Murtenbieter and the Anzeiger von Kerzers.

16'100 copies

Today, 65 people are employed at the Freiburger Nachrichten, including 18 journalists and photographers. The newspaper is published in 16'100 copies and reaches about 39'000 readers. A large circulation is published every Thursday and is also distributed in border areas of Bern. It is printed 40'800 times.

Thematically, the FN is primarily devoted to regional and local topicality, while the Berner Zeitung provides the national pages. Since last year, all editorial pages have been in full color, after the entire issue was graphically refreshed in 2008.

Made (still) in Freiburg

Like the newspapers La Liberté and La Gruyère, the FN is produced on the printing press of Paulusdruckerei in Fribourg. Recently, however, the FN management decided to have the newspaper produced in Bern from 2015 for financial reasons.

The loss of this major customer means that Paulusdruckerei will close its newspaper printing division by the end of 2014. 50 jobs are at risk. A motion on the matter is pending in the Grand Council of the Canton of Fribourg. It calls for state aid to the Paulus printing plant to compensate for the loss of revenue. (SDA)

Google invests in the Zurich location

Google Switzerland will open new office space at the Hürlimann Areal on Thursday. This brings the total number of people working for Google at its Zurich development site—the largest outside the U.S.—to around 1,100.

In Switzerland, engineers develop functions and elements for Google services such as Google Search, Google Maps, YouTube and Gmail for users all over the world. "Our development location in Switzerland plays a crucial role for Google - this is where we invest," said Patrick Warnking, Country Director of Google Switzerland, in a Google press release on Thursday. The Mayor of Zurich, Corine Mauch, also emphasized Google's role as an important driving force behind Zurich's development into a recognized ICT location: "I am delighted that Google is developing so positively in our city. The company is already one of the fifty largest private employers in Zurich and it is impossible to imagine the city without it."

the Hürlimann site.

The Google Maps team in Zurich, for example, is working on the development of the virtual atlas and the integration of public transport information into Google Maps. They are also working on Google Maps Navigation for mobile devices. The local team has developed Content ID and the True View advertising format for YouTube. Content ID is a system that gives rights holders the opportunity to manage their content. With True View, the customer only pays when the user actually watches the video. In addition, there is development work on key functions of Google Calender and Gmail. Together with other cloud-based Google services, the two applications are already being used as Google Apps for Business by Swiss companies such as Roche, Holcim and Ringier.

Development location Zurich

Zurich has now grown to become the largest development location outside the USA, as the press release explains further. The opening of the new offices continues Google's successful history in Switzerland. In 2004, the technology company started with two employees on Limmatquai in Zurich. The following year, Google moved to Freigutstrasse and in 2008 moved to the Hürlimann site, where the Swiss branch has since been continuously expanded. The new building at Brandschenkestrasse 100 is adorned with 98 additional zeros: a reference to the name "Googol", after which the company was originally named.

Google wants to use the interior design to promote employee communication and thus support the culture of innovation. The Googlers from Zurich meet and exchange ideas in the various common rooms. The three floors were designed to be open with new intermediate connections. The Zurich architecture firm Z2G (Zuest, Gubeli, Gambetti) is responsible for the design, which pays attention to a strong local connection. This is reflected in the names of the meeting rooms, which are named after special Zurich locations and restaurants. Among other things, a Frauenbadi room was created.

Leo Burnett Switzerland: subject for Woz

Following the election of City Councilman Richard Wolff, Leo Burnett Switzerland has created a new ad campaign for the Woz. Since many police officers find Wolff’s ideas difficult to understand, the Woz recommends that they read the Woz.

The newly elected city councilor Richard Wolff will take over the police department on June 1, making him probably the most left-wing Zurich police chief ever, according to the agency. And with a trial subscription to Woz, police officers could learn a lot about left-wing thinking and thus about their new boss. The subject appeared in the NZZ on Thursday.

Responsible at the weekly newspaper: The collective of the Woz. Responsible at Leo Burnett Switzerland: Simon Smit, Niels Schäfer (creation), Peter Brönnimann (ECD), Nino Zuberbühler (consulting).

In Flagranti: Tough enough part 2

«The nursing profession is a tough profession and therefore a cool one.» With this message, In Flagranti was able to increase interest in training at the Bern Nursing Training Center last year. Part 2 now follows.

The break with the traditional image of the nursing profession - the selflessly self-sacrificing "nurse" - has had an impact, the agency says. This year, the campaign will be continued with new subjects. With small advertisements special characteristics are stressed such as "no vocational school-leaving certificate necessary". In addition, the agency is adapting the media strategy: Now BZ Pflege advertises in three waves with online banners, posters (also in high schools and middle schools) and on the bus (Passenger TV). In this way, the advertisements with varying formats are to ensure increased attention.

BSW Leading Swiss Agencies: A good business year

Looking back on a successful fiscal year, President Nadine Borter opened the 78th annual general meeting of BSW Leading Swiss Agencies on Thursday: She noted that clients are very satisfied with the services provided by the BSW agencies.

The association is fulfilling its leading role in the advertising, media and communications industry for longer and better, making membership very attractive. Since the last members' meeting in May 2012, eleven new agencies from various disciplines have joined, while four existing agencies have left. This was reported by the association in a press release on Thursday. BSW agencies stand for quality. For a few years now, the services of member agencies have therefore been consistently monitored and new members are only accepted after a thorough examination. In this way, the high BSW quality standard can be ensured in the long term and advertising clients can be guaranteed investment security.

BSW agencies fit for the future

Advertising clients are oriented towards secure values, which, Nadine Borter continues, only BSW agencies can offer them. These agencies have made themselves fit for cross-media offers and services within a very short time, so that today they fully meet the changed requirements. It is therefore no wonder that customers are very satisfied with the services provided by BSW agencies, as the new study "Advertising and media agencies today and tomorrow - from the customer's perspective" shows. The study was conducted at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts under the direction of Anja Janoschka and will be presented in detail in July 2013. But this much can be said in advance: BSW agencies are perceived as competent, their management as committed and the quality of service as high, which is why they enjoy a high level of trust from clients.

To ensure that this remains the case, BSW Leading Swiss Agencies also supported its members last year with a series of exclusive training seminars and workshops, according to the press release.

Following the statutory part of the General Assembly, President Nadine Borter welcomed one of the leading intellectuals in the German-speaking world, Faz publisher Frank Schirrmacher, as a guest speaker to great applause.

Frank-Schirrmacher_0

With books such as "Methuselah's Conspiracy" and his current critique of capitalism "Ego", he repeatedly launches profound social debates, which he also brought to the BSW Leading Swiss Agencies association on Thursday evening. He spoke about the unstoppable ageing of our Western societies and the painful adjustments to social systems that this entails. But he would not be Frank Schirrmacher if he did not also talk about the opportunities that demographic change offers individuals and the economy as a whole. The BSW members will certainly try - and there was a consensus on this in the concluding discussion - to seize these opportunities.

Rainer Sauser leaves AZ Medien

From January 1, 2010, he was a member of the Executive Board and, as Managing Director Systems & Services, was responsible for IT, prepress, ad order processing and the customer contact center. Until December 31, 2010, he also managed Mittelland Zeitungsdruck and, until June 30, 2012, Human Resource Management.

In a statement issued on Thursday, AZ Medien said that Rainer Sauser had succeeded in sustainably consolidating the divisions and aligning them with a service orientation by optimizing and digitizing processes. He has thus made a significant contribution to the corporate success of AZ Medien.

Ammarkt: A shooter's garden is everywhere

Ammarkt has developed new visuals and a website for the Schützengarten Brewery. The brewery is giving itself a fresh new look for the upcoming summer—and is bringing the “second screen” concept to print as well.

Because we have long since become accustomed to the blending of the digital and real worlds, according to the agency. Reason enough for Ammarkt to continue the umbrella campaign "Ein Schützengarten ist überall" into its eighth year. With a gimmick, a wink and comment tags that elegantly lead to the new website.

Because Schützengarten beer can only be shared digitally despite technical progress, according to the press release, the campaign and below-the-line measures such as beer plates with flirt tags are intended to inspire an interactive exchange of beer beyond the virtual world. And so Schützengarten's new appearance should also be understood as a tribute to enjoyable, genuine encounters that no "like" click can do justice to.

Responsible at Schützengarten: Reto Preisig (Chief Executive Officer), Roger Tanner (Head of Marketing & Communications). Responsible at Ammarkt: Michael Schmid (Strategy & Consulting), Adrian Schiess (Head of Digital), Roland Geiger (Consulting & Production Management), Mäggie Widmer (Media), Martin Fuchs (Creative Direction), Christof Müller, Jan Walser (Art Direction), Andrin Rohner (Graphics), Aron Herz (Text), Photography: Sven Germann.
