Spatz Zeitung does not pay outstanding wages

Publitex, the publisher of the now-defunct Basler Spatz Zeitung, is apparently no longer able to pay the outstanding wages. Now, the employees who have been shortchanged want to take legal action to recover their wages.

According to an email obtained by Klein Report, publisher Dominique Hiltbrunner did not appear at a court hearing last Monday. The former employees are particularly upset that Hiltbrunner is obviously still living the high life. According to Klein Report, Hiltbrunner drove up to Basel in an expensive car with a chauffeur and often spent weekends in Paris, even when wages could no longer be paid and the end of the newspaper was already in sight.

Hiltbrunner took over the brand rights and the publisher Publitex from Robert M. Schmid, publisher of Münsterverlag Basel, in 2011. The young publisher wanted to turn the free newspaper into a magazine with journalistic standards (Werbewoche.ch reported). The Spatz Zeitung has now been discontinued, and the issue planned for the end of June could no longer be published. Hiltbrunner justified the closure with the advertising market: it had not been possible to gain the necessary share of the highly competitive Basel advertising market (Werbewoche.ch reported).

Clear Channel with new image campaign

Clear Channel is launching a new branding campaign next week. The new advertising campaign is designed to increase brand awareness, position Clear Channel as a leader in innovation and quality in outdoor advertising, and appeal to new target audiences.

The four different subjects relating to the business areas street, POS, megaposter and airport will be seen throughout Switzerland on the company's own poster sites and as advertisements in trade magazines. Oliver Schönfeld, Head of Marketing at Clear Channel: "We want to give our brand a new, fresh and self-confident image that scores highly in terms of relevance and creativity. The central idea of the campaign is based on a deliberately casual apology to the main figure in the painting and her striking feature, combined with convincing arguments about the strengths of our advertising space."

Publigroupe sells 51 percent of Xentive

Publigroupe is selling a 51 percent stake in Xentive, Publicitas' business process outsourcing provider, to Mediaspectrum. With this new shareholder, Xentive is expected to significantly expand its range of services.

Mediaspectrum will benefit from the sale of shares from an already established organization with extensive expertise in the areas of BFO and system integration for the media industry, as Publigroupe writes in a press release on Friday. Xentive is to become an important partner in the expansion of Mediaspectrum's solution platform for multi-channel advertising and content management in the DACH region and in France. The new platform should enable Publicitas to significantly reduce its IT costs.

The transaction is expected to be completed in the fall of 2013. From then on, Xentive and its 130 employees will operate as an independent subsidiary of Mediaspectrum. The sale is subject to approval by the Swiss Competition Commission (ComCo).

In future, the expanded service portfolio of Xentive, which will continue to be managed by the current CEO Christian Rohrbach, will be split into two divisions:

- BPO Services: This area is intended to offer media companies a complete range of services - from full-service offerings to the individual development and maintenance of tools based on the new Mediaspectrum platform.

- Integrator Support: This area will support Mediaspectrum's integrators in the customer acquisition and service delivery process, particularly in the DACH and France regions, which are key to Mediaspectrum's growth in Central Europe.

The introduction of the Mediaspectrum platform should enable Publicitas to significantly reduce its IT costs. By acquiring new media companies as customers with the help of this platform, Xentive will also reduce the costs per order processing due to economies of scale to the benefit of all corporate customers - including Publicitas, Publigroupe continued in the press release.

Maxomedia: "Hands off counterfeits".

Just in time for the vacation season, Maxomedia created the Haende-weg.ch landing page for «Stop Piracy,» a Swiss platform dedicated to combating counterfeiting and piracy. The goal is to raise awareness among travelers about the problem of counterfeit goods from abroad.

To reach as many people as possible, the landing page was translated into four languages: German, French, Italian and English. Stop Piracy will be present at Zurich Airport for nine days starting July 9 with a display wall and iPads demonstrating the landing page. Around 20,000 luggage tags will then also be distributed to travelers at the airport. With the tags in the shape of glasses or watches and printed on them the message "Hands off counterfeits", people should set a clear and visible sign against counterfeit goods.

Maxomedia was responsible for the conception and implementation of the landing page, the give-aways and the display wall.

Publigroupe: Profit warning first half year

Publigroupe has announced an operating loss and a net loss in the single-digit millions for the first half of 2013. The company attributes this to the ongoing decline in revenue in the print advertising business.

Specifically, the results at Media Sales fell significantly short of expectations. In addition, the profit warning was due to the changed seasonality of the print publishing program at Search & Find, which resulted in a shift of a large part of the profit to the second half of the year. The company wrote this in a statement on Friday.

At Media Sales, the continuing decline in sales in the press advertising business continued to outweigh the gains achieved through cost-cutting and other restructuring measures, as well as growth in the digital business. As part of the transformation of Publicitas under its new CEO Alain D. Bandle, the sale of a majority stake in Xentive, Publicitas' business process outsourcing (BPO) provider, to Mediaspectrum (Werbewoche.ch reported). Publigroupe's half-year results will be announced on 26 August 2013.

For 2013, Publigroupe had assumed that a substantial improvement in results at Publicitas and a significantly lower cost burden would enable Media Sales to compensate for the negative market environment in the print business and achieve a break-even result for the year as a whole. However, the current figures for the first six months of 2013, including the latest results factored in for the month of June, indicate that the break-even point will not be reached - neither for the first half of the year, in which a negative operating result of CHF 7-8 million is expected, nor for 2013 as a whole.

This negative result was due to another significant decline in the print business. This slump neutralized the operational improvements already achieved and the new measures introduced. In addition, the investments in new growth areas have not yet had the desired effect.

To further reduce IT costs and make them more flexible, Publicitas has opted for Mediaspectrum's software solution, which will be used to run its future process solutions for the advertising business from January 2014. Mediaspectrum's platform will also be made available to the entire industry via Xentive, 51 percent of which will be sold to Mediaspectrum. The new platform is expected to enable Publicitas to significantly reduce its IT costs over the next three years. The sale is subject to approval by the Swiss Competition Commission Weko.

Alain D. Bandle, CEO of Publicitas since March 1, 2013, will provide an update on the restructuring measures based on the previously communicated strategic cornerstones of the Media Sales segment at the presentation of Publigroupe's half-year results on August 26, 2013.

Small operating profit expected for full year

Search & Find and Digital & Marketing Services (DMS) together are expected to achieve an operating result at around the same level as last year. Online sales at Search & Find and Local.ch continue to grow in the double-digit range, Publigroupe writes in the release. Due to the transfer of the Yellow and White Pages business to the new Local Guide product and the associated changes in the seasonal revenue pattern, Search & Find's profits will largely shift to the second half of 2013, with the full-year 2013 result expected to be in line with or slightly ahead of last year's result. As expected, DMS will report slightly lower earnings due to investments in startups Improve Digital (acquired in December 2012) and Spree7. Zanox's results for the first half of 2013 are in line with the previous year for the first six months.

For 2013 as a whole, Publigroupe expects a positive operating result at the previous year's level, i.e. low single-digit growth, according to the statement.
Publigroupe's half-year results will be announced on 26 August 2013. On this occasion, Publigroupe will provide information on further measures with which the company is responding to the current market environment.

Valencia: In the sawdust for Feldschlösschen

Valencia Kommunikation was commissioned by the Rheinfelder Brewery to design the communications campaign for its Schwinger promotion and, to do so, donned a traditional Alpine shirt.

As the king partner of the 2013 Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival in Burgdorf, Feldschlösschen is giving away 125 x 2 tickets for the event. Valencia designed a comprehensive communication package for this event. For the print visual, the brewery's traditional six-horse carriage was moved into the wrestling environment and proudly drives past the sawdust wrestlers in front of the Schlösschen.

The packaging, too, has a pithy Schwinger look: the popular Feldschlösschen Bügel has been transformed into a "Schwinger Bügel" exclusively for EASF 2013. Its label was designed in the style of a light blue shirt, as traditionally worn by the "Sennenschwinger". The same shirt also adorns the labels of the 50 cl returnable bottles and two promotional packs of Feldschlösschen Original.

A Feldschlösschen Original special can in a Schwinger edition is also being released in honor of the Swiss Confederation. The promotion is running immediately in retail stores, and the cans in the Schwinger design will be on sale in time for the start of the Eidgenössisches.

Responsible at Feldschlösschen Beverages: David McCann (Brand Portfolio Director Feldschlösschen), Bernhard Räber (Senior Brand Manager Feldschlösschen), Simone Schmutz (Brand Manager Feldschlösschen). KSP: Image campaign for Helsana

KSP Krieg Schlupp Partner aims to touch people's hearts with a promotional video for Helsana. The campaign also includes print ads and online banners.

Since the beginning of July, Helsana has been communicating under a new umbrella: "Helsana. Switzerland's health insurance." With this message, Helsana is telling a new brand story: Helsana makes access to healthcare easy and thus earns Switzerland's trust. To tell this message in a touching and convincing way, the new campaign puts service providers at the center - these important people who are there every day for the health of Switzerland. Just like these "health people", Helsana is also there for its customers every day, with advice, action and an overview.

The new image advertising film "Heart" aims to touch hearts by showing a variety of service providers who - each in their own field - care for the hearts of their customers. In addition, the image ads "Heart" and "From Head to Toe" as well as online banners are placed, which deepen the new positioning. The following ad and online waves with 8 motifs focus on differentiating products and services and thus provide concrete evidence of why Helsana is "The Health Insurance Company of Switzerland".

The campaign can be seen in newspapers and magazines, online, at POS and, from September, on Swiss television as a sponsorship of popular shows such as "Aeschbacher".

Responsible at Helsana: Connie Raif (Head of Marketing Sales), Dierk Schehrer (Head of Sales Promotion Advertising), Marco Wermelinger (Project Management). Responsible at KSP Krieg Schlupp Partner: Uwe Schlupp (creative direction), Beat Egger (concept, text), Andrea Reinhart (art direction), Raphael Koller (online graphics), Audrey Isaak, Angela van der Sman (consulting), Michèle Seligmann (FFF), Danielle Stutz (art buying), Rosas & Co (film production), Borgato & Berté (direction), Alex Kirschner (music), Sven Schrader (photography).
