Strong growth in Internet advertising

Structural change in the advertising industry continues to advance. By 2015, nearly one billion francs in advertising spending is expected to flow into the Internet each year. Traditional advertising media, however, are unlikely to grow much further. This is shown by a survey of experts conducted by Publicom.

In the next two years, advertising on mobile channels and the stationary Internet in particular will gain market share, while traditional media will have to prepare for difficult times. At least, that's how the vast majority of the Delphinarium expert panel sees it.

Skepticism about mobile advertising

However, there is also a great deal of skepticism about mobile advertising in particular. Half of the respondents express concerns about whether mobile advertising will be able to gain widespread acceptance, either because its impact is uncertain or because there are too few accepted forms of advertising that can be monetized. However, there is little disagreement on one point: the downward slide of print media is not over yet. They will continue to lose market share over the next two years. Times are also likely to remain difficult for the other "traditional" forms of advertising. For cinema, radio and direct mail, most experts predict stagnation or a deterioration in market position. In the case of television, opinions are divided. The verdict for out-of-home advertising is comparatively favorable. Hardly any experts expect market shares to shrink here.

Schibsted Media and Tamedia join forces

Norway's Schibsted Media Group and Tamedia are joining forces online in the Swiss classifieds and auto advertising markets. The move is intended to strengthen their positions in these highly competitive markets.

To this end, the classifieds platforms Piazza.ch from Tamedia and Tutti.ch, the portal launched by Schibsted in Switzerland in 2010, will be merged under the name Tutti.ch. Tamedia is also bringing the car portal Car4you.ch into the cooperation, which will continue to operate under its current name, according to a press release. The two platforms are to be strengthened through the exchange of vehicle advertisements in order to expand their position in the online user and vehicle market. Car dealers and private advertisers would benefit from an increased reach and more inquiries about their advertisements, while users would benefit from additional offers. The teams of the two companies will remain unchanged.

Car4you Switzerland and Schibsted Classified Media Switzerland will in future be owned 50 percent each by Schibsted and Tamedia. The transactions are subject to approval by the Swiss Federal Competition Commission.

HWZ: New course of study in "Digital Business

Starting in November 2013—with the launch of the CAS Mobile Business program—HWZ will offer a new program of study in digital business, ranging from individual certificate courses to a master’s degree.

Digital technologies are increasingly shaping existing business models, processes, and media. The future outlook in this «Digital Business»are excellent," as the HWZ states in a press release. However, there is no comprehensive continuing education program in this field in Switzerland. The HWZ aims to fill this gap.

«The digital business world is not only changing companies» established strategies and positioning; it is also influencing the competitive landscape and giving rise to new business models,« explains Jacques Bischoff, Rector of HWZ, regarding the rationale behind the new program. Due to dynamic technological change, the importance of »digital business” in the business world is increasing, and the demand for proven experts is growing. This is because, particularly in Switzerland, there are currently still too few specialists in this timely and promising field.

Five CAS modules to choose from

The first master’s program of its kind in Switzerland consists of various certificate programs that can be individually tailored and enrolled in separately. In this way, the program imparts all relevant skills and prepares companies for current and future challenges in the digital business world. The part-time Master’s program allows students to work full-time, thereby ensuring the integration of theory and practice. The program is structured independently of the academic semester. The following five CAS modules are available:

CAS in Digital Business Management
CAS Digital Technology & Innovation
CAS Mobile Business
CAS Cross-Media Management
CAS Social Media Management

Campaign forum scatters rumors

Last Sunday, Kampagnenforum used eBoards to spread rumors about celebrity couples breaking up. On Monday, these rumors were debunked, and a connection was made to blood stem cell donation.

On behalf of Swiss Transfusion SRC, the Campaign Forum launched a campaign on 7.7. to promote blood stem cell donors. With the headline "He (or she) is not my type", prominent couples were to irritate passers-by on e-board ads in almost all train stations in Switzerland.

In cases of leukemia or other life-threatening diseases of the hematopoietic system, a blood stem cell transplant is often the only chance for a cure. If no matching donor can be found in the family, a worldwide search for an outside donor is launched. For a matching donation, however, certain tissue characteristics of the donor and recipient must match. There are billions of different combinations of these characteristics. Finding the right type is therefore difficult. The more people register, the higher the probability of a match. Blood transfusion SRC Switzerland therefore wants to increase the number of registered people in Switzerland).

To achieve this goal, the Campaign Forum has realized the campaign "You are not my type". On e-boards in all large and medium-sized train stations, prominent couples announced on July 7: "He (or she) is not my type." The headline is illustrated with a tear through the heart that the two are holding in their hands.

The Campaign Forum was able to recruit Renzo Blumenthal and his wife Ladina for the campaign, as well as Christina Surer and her husband Martin Tomczyk. Other ambassadors are Eva Nidecker, Cony Sutter and Peter Pfändler.

The e-board ads were in SI's design and were thus intended to give the impression that the couples were really separating. SI resolves the irritation in its print edition of July 8, 2013. The campaign is simultaneously supported by social media measures: The separation rumors are also spread on Twitter and Facebook.

With this and other means, such as two videos, the Campaign Forum aims to raise awareness of blood stem cell donation among a broader public. At Am-I-your-type.ch all the information is bundled together; in addition, people who are committed to blood stem cell donation have their say - among other things, because they are directly affected.

Last but not least: The Mafia Magazine

Who has never heard of the yakuza clans? But their image is not particularly great at the moment. That's why they are now advertising - for themselves - with a magazine.

Japan's largest mafia family, Yamaguchi-gumi, is going on a publicity tour with the magazine to combat its own dwindling membership. The eight-page brochure contains a page of poetry, readings on traditional board games and reports on fishing trips by some gangster bosses, as the Sankei Shimbun newspaper reported on Wednesday. The magazine is not available to the public. This is the Yamaguchi-gumi's response to the yakuza crisis, as the mafia is known in Japan. "They obviously feel that it has become more difficult for them since they are no longer allowed to open bank accounts or sign real estate contracts due to new laws," said a police insider.

According to the national police authority, Yamaguchi-gumi lost 3,300 members last year. Like the mafia in Italy, the yakuza clans in Japan are involved in all kinds of illegal activities, from gambling, drug dealing, prostitution and extortion of protection money to white-collar crime with front companies. Despite this, the clans are not banned; the authorities only take action against obvious crimes. (uma/SDA)
