Partner & Partner repositions University Hospital Zurich

The agency Partner & Partner has designed a branding campaign to launch the repositioned «USZ» brand for the University Hospital of Zurich. With this campaign, the hospital is breaking new ground.

It is not yet common practice to position a hospital brand and market its benefits, the agency said in a statement Tuesday. However, due to the increase in competition among hospitals, a stringent image is becoming increasingly important. Partner & Partner is accompanying the positioning process for the "USZ" brand together with the Brandoos consulting firm.

Internal and external communication are linked in this campaign and the positioning is surprisingly resolved in nine headline subjects, as the statement continues. In the headline mechanism, the clever provocation is the guiding principle of the content and the resolution through a footnote with a strikingly highlighted index concept, which runs like a red thread through all internal and external communication media.

The multi-stage campaign developed by Partner & Partner resulted in an integrated mix of striking elements (wall prints in the hospital building, advertisements, streetcar posters) and in-depth communication (brand primer, image film, intranet with employee interviews as VJ clips).

Last but not least: "Is it Christmas already?"

Christmas is still around 4 months away. And what's more, summer isn't even over yet. Nevertheless, the first Christmas mailings are already sneaking their way into our inboxes.

Today, the first company has already had the pleasure of sending out a Christmas mailing. And, unfortunately, under the absolutely moronic title "Yes, is it Christmas already?". The importer's explanation is almost even more moronic than the title: "It's still 3.5 months until Christmas, but 10 days for the sample, 30 days production and 45 days sea freight and we're already in the first week of December". Can you believe that? (uma)

Facebook must pay 20 million dollars

The social network Facebook must pay $20 million as part of a settlement in the U.S. On Monday, a U.S. judge approved the agreement, which benefits Facebook users, state attorneys general, and privacy advocacy groups, in a class-action lawsuit.

The Facebook users had complained that the social network was using their "Like" information for advertising. Facebook had introduced so-called sponsored stories as a form of advertising at the beginning of 2011. These are displayed to users between their friends' messages. If a company advertises there, it also shows which friends have given the company a "Like".

Users had objected to this - unsolicited - use of their data in the proceedings. The settlement now provides for Facebook to change its rules and allow members to define the protection of their data in sponsored stories more precisely.

However, the judge made it clear that Facebook, in its own opinion, had done nothing other than "use information that users have already voluntarily shared with their Facebook friends. This is sometimes displayed again in a column that shows classic paid advertising." It was therefore difficult for Facebook users to prove that they had suffered any damage. (SDA)

Unique: Lidl lets employees have their say

Since entering the market in 2009, Lidl Switzerland has established itself among the top 5 in the Swiss retail sector. The company attributes this success largely to its employees and is now giving them a chance to speak.

In three spots, real-life employees are portrayed, all of whom have come to Lidl for their own personal reason. They explain their motives in a short statement. Unikat worked with Manifesto to create the portraits, which for once shed light on a completely different facet of the retail company.

Tamedia acquires majority stake in Ziegler Druck und Verlag

The Swiss media group Tamedia makes use of its pre-emptive right and takes over the majority of Ziegler Druck- und Verlag. As a result, Tamedia also takes over the Winterthurer Landbote, among others.

What was already announced in the media on Sunday (Werbewoche.ch reported), was confirmed by Tamedia on Tuesday. The owner family of Ziegler Druck- und Verlag had previously informed Tamedia of its intention to sell its 70.5 percent stake in the publisher of the Winterthur daily newspaper Der Landbote. Tamedia wrote this in a statement on Tuesday. Tamedia's stake is now 90.5 percent. 9.5 percent of the shares are held by another individual shareholder.

Ziegler Druck- und Verlags-AG and Tamedia have already been linked for several years. For example, Tamedia has held a 20 percent stake in the Winterthur-based media company since 2005, while Ziegler Druck- und Verlags-AG carries out Tamedia's largest magazine printing contract. In addition, Der Landbote has been a cooperation partner of the daily newspapers Zürcher Unterländer and Zürichsee-Zeitung published by Tamedia since 2011.

With the takeover, all activities and employees of Ziegler Druck- und Verlags-AG will be transferred to Tamedia. In addition to the daily newspaper Der Landbote and the weekly Winterthurer Stadtanzeiger, this also includes the web offset, sheetfed offset and digital printing plant, which specializes in printing customer magazines, periodicals and business stationery, the prepress operations and various properties.

The Landbote as a supplement to the Zurich regional newspapers

The Landbote will strengthen the ZRZ newspaper association of Zurich regional newspapers with its partners Zürcher Unterländer, Zürcher Oberländer and Zürichsee-Zeitung, the statement added. In cantonal reporting and in publishing, Landbote will work closely with Zürcher Unterländer, Zürcher Oberländer and Zürichsee-Zeitung, while maintaining its editorial location in Winterthur. For international and national topics, an exchange of the Zurich regional newspapers with the BZ Berner Zeitung is planned. As Tamedia spokesman Christoph Zimmer said in response to an inquiry from SDA, the cooperation with BZ will primarily take place in topics where the regional reference is "not in the foreground".

Tamedia also plans to continue the advertising market combination of Zurich regional newspapers unchanged and to introduce attractive combination modules with the Metropool advertising combination, according to the press release.

The purchase price (enterprise value) for 70.5 percent of the shares in Ziegler Druck- und Verlags-AG is 49.6 million Swiss francs (70.4 million Swiss francs for 100 percent of the shares). The real estate and the additional fund of Ziegler Druck- und Verlags-AG were valued by Tamedia at approximately 35 million Swiss francs (50 million Swiss francs for 100 percent of the shares). The takeover will be reported to the Swiss Federal Competition Commission and is subject to its approval.

Facing: New Corporate Design for the Children's Hospital Zurich

Facing has developed a new visual identity for the Children's Hospital Zurich. The Children's Hospital Zurich is a non-profit private institution serving all children and adolescents.

In order to be able to present itself even more uniformly and concisely in the future, Facing was commissioned in the spring to redesign the corporate design, which was approved by the Children's Hospital Foundation Board in June 2013. The new appearance takes up the image element of the previous logo, makes the university reference of the Children's Hospital prominently recognizable and at the same time clarifies the legal form as a private foundation, which is important with regard to fundraising.

Facing also created a uniform design concept for publications, correspondence and the Internet, and selected a contemporary font for corporate communications. This will allow the Children's Hospital to present a uniform image across all areas in the future and thus also strengthen its public image.

The changeover of resources will take place gradually. The new appearance should be complete by the middle of next year.

Responsible at the Children's Hospital Zurich: Urs Rüegg. Responsible at Facing: Lucius Leonhardt (Management, Consulting), Roger Sandmeier (Creative Director), Martina Baer Simonett (Consulting), Isabel Aeschbach, Anna Fürer, Claudia Keller (Design).

Syndicom/Impressum react to Tamedia takeover of the Landbote

The media union Syndicom is demanding that Tamedia provide assurances regarding job security and the newspaper’s independence as part of its acquisition of the Landbote. The journalists« association Impressum is calling for a »binding commitment to preserving diversity of opinion.”.

Today's news that Tamedia is taking over the Winterthur media company of the Landbote (Werbewoche.ch reported), finally brings clarity for the affected workforces after months of uncertainty, Syndicom said in a communiqué on Tuesday. However, the takeover is also a cause for concern: With Tamedia, the largest Swiss media group is continuing to expand in the print and online sectors. This publishing house is known for its disproportionate profitability pressure and constant cost-cutting measures. This would threaten jobs in the editorial department and in the printing plant. The fact that the Landbote is also obliged to cooperate in terms of content with the other Zurich regional newspapers and with the Berner Zeitung would lead to the loss of an independent journalistic voice and endanger media diversity.

This view is also held by Impressum: Imprint writes that purely economically motivated synergies are thinning out the diversity of information and opinion. This has been shown by the takeovers of the Zurich regional newspapers as well as the Bund and the Berner Zeitung by Tamedia. A media plurality is feigned that exists less and less.

Therefore, both demand that the Landbote be retained as an independent newspaper. In the opinion of Imprint, a binding commitment from Tamedia is necessary "that after this new takeover, the journalist positions and thus the diversity of information will be preserved". In order to maintain quality, no jobs should be reduced in the editorial department, writes Syndicom. In addition, Tamedia is called upon to continue the Ziegler printing plant without job cuts. A decisive contribution to this is that the weekly magazine Schweizer Familie continues to be printed in Winterthur and that Tamedia brings the printing contract for the Friday supplement of 20 Minuten, Friday, and the women's magazine Annabelle back to Switzerland from Germany as quickly as possible.

Last but not least: Poor connection

The new Nissan Micra features a built-in weather forecast. A TBWA commercial showcases the new possibilities for planning leisure activities and daily schedules.

Beautiful weather invites you to linger in the sun. It's good when you don't have to sit in the office during sunny spells. But the best alternative program is nothing without the right excuse. This young lady shows us how it's done. This trick has been used to end annoying phone calls for decades (at least in films) - a true classic of interpersonal communication. Here it has been particularly charmingly rescued for the era of video conferencing. (hae)

Publigroupe: Share under pressure and job cuts

A larger-than-expected first-half loss has put pressure on Publigroupe's stock. In addition, 245 jobs will be cut in Switzerland and abroad.

The advertising company's stock lost just under two percent to 88 francs on Monday in a held overall market. Publigroupe posted a loss of 9.5 million francs in the first half of 2013, compared with a profit of 10.8 million a year earlier. This is twice as much as analysts expected. Sales slipped 20 percent to 122.5 million francs.

The realignment of the Publicitas subsidiary will require more time and investment and a turnaround is not yet expected in 2013, the French-speaking Swiss company said. Publigroupe had warned of a loss, but it turned out to be even higher than expected, said a commentary by Bank Vontobel. The print advertising business in particular continues to suffer.

However, the share price, which has fallen by around 40 percent this year, has already anticipated a great deal, said one trader. For ZKB, the half-year results brought no more major surprises after the profit warning in mid-July, but were still somewhat weaker than feared. The group continues to struggle with a very difficult environment.

Red figures force Publigroupe to cut jobs

Due to heavy losses in the traditional advertising marketing business, Publigroupe is reducing the number of jobs at its subsidiary Publicitas by around 245 by the beginning of next year. 140 jobs are to be cut, 100 of them in Switzerland and a further 40 in
Europe. Another 125 jobs will be eliminated because Publicitas is selling its majority stake in media logistics service provider Xentive. At the same time, a number of new jobs will be created in Asia, according to a Publigroupe communiqué issued on Monday.

The reasons for the job cuts are the financial situation and the new focus of Publicitas, Publigroupe announced on Monday. In the first quarter of 2014, Publicitas will thus still have 800 full-time positions worldwide. (SDA)

Social media becomes social

«You share – we care»—under this motto, a team of three software developers will launch the first truly social social-web platform on Saturday—because half of the profits from advertising revenue will be donated to a social organization.

Which institution is involved is determined by the users. The platform founded by Raphael Jeger with the illustrious name Legendaily has made it its mission to always show every user up-to-date and entertaining content - which in turn is posted by the users. In contrast to the well-known social networks, you don't need to be virtual friends with someone to see their content - everything is public and visible to everyone. Newer content with lots of likes is given priority over other content. The users decide together what is currently popular.
