1.6 billion mobile views in September

Net-Metrix's mobile report clearly shows that apps and mobile sites are being used more frequently and on an increasing number of devices. Significant growth rates have been recorded in the half-year comparison, and total usage reached 1.6 billion page views in September.

Certified usage data for over 90 Swiss mobile sites and apps

Net-Metrix's mobile publication makes it possible to compare the certified usage data of the participating offerings. Since spring 2013, certified usage figures for mobile networks have also been published. With the mobile site and apps of tio.ch, the September publication also publishes usage data for an Italian-language offering for the first time. This means that offers in the three most common national languages are now represented and allow the mobile publication to grow further: While around 40 mobile offers took part in spring 2012, there are currently already over 90 mobile sites and apps of well-known Swiss providers. The current usage figures are even more impressive: While just under 1.2 billion page impressions were registered in March 2013, the figure had risen by 400 million by September 2013 to around 1.6 billion (+35.9 percent). Clearly, the use of mobile sites and apps is popular with many Swiss people and continues to grow significantly.

High usage growth for mobile offerings

With 1.27 million unique clients - that is, the number of different devices via which the offer was used at least once in the period under review - the mobile site of 20min.ch - D-CH leads the top 10 in September 2013. In a half-year comparison, this corresponds to growth of 38.3 percent. The mobile site of Blick Online is also very popular, with over one million unique clients (+ 31.3 percent). At the unique client level, the mobile site of Search with 832'000 (+ 34.6 percent), the iPhone app of 20min.ch - D-CH with 708'000 (+ 8.4 percent) and the mobile site and iOS universal app of local.ch with 673'000 (+ 34.9 percent) and 552'000 (+ 7 percent) unique clients respectively follow. With the mobile sites of Tilllate (522'000 unique clients, + 23.7 percent) and ImmoScout24 (368'000 unique clients), offerings from the "Entertainment" and "Service" sectors are also represented in the top 10.

netmetrix-01

In terms of the number of visits, news offerings were in the top ten places in September 2013, as they were six months ago: 20 Minuten Online (D-CH and W-CH) occupies a full six places in the top 10. The top ranks in terms of monthly visits are occupied by the iPhone app of 20min.ch - D-CH with around 22.3 million visits (+ 13.6 percent) and the mobile site of Blick Online with 12.8 million visits (+ 16.3 percent). The Android app of 20min.ch - D-CH follows in third place with 11.81 million visits (+ 35.9 percent). Other frequently used offerings are Blick Online's news iPhone app with 5.5 million (+ 9.7 percent), Bluewin's mobile site with 3.85 million (+ 68.4 percent), and Tages-Anzeiger's iOS universal app with 3.61 million visits (+ 9.9 percent).

Last but not least: Klaus-Heidi, Berlin calling

Those Swedes are crazy: On behalf of Lufthansa, DDB Stockholm is giving the first Swede to change their name to Klaus-Heidi a year in Berlin—all-inclusive.

The aim is to find a person who loves Berlin so much that they would sacrifice their own name for it, Magnus Engvall, the airline's head of marketing, told the Swedish newspaper The Local. The competition began on October 11 and ends on November 28. However, only Swedes are allowed to take part - according to Engvall, the competition has also attracted a lot of interest from Norwegians in particular. Anyone who prefers to keep their own name but still wants to go to Berlin can change their Facebook name to Klaus-Heidi and benefit from discounted flight conditions. But why Heidi? Is Switzerland now also being confused with other countries by SWEDEN?

Perhaps someone will find someone who has always hated his name anyway (Adolf-Heidi, for example). The prospect of a free year of hipster Berlin (as depicted in the following film) seems tempting. Even though no one in Berlin has been waiting for the masses of hip, creative, urban newcomers from all over the world for a long time. (hae)

Federal Court: Schmidheiny loses dispute with SRG

Stephan Schmidheiny has lost his dispute with SRG SSR over a report on asbestos victims at Eternit factories in Italy. The Federal Supreme Court has upheld the UBI's decision.

At the beginning of the year, the Independent Complaints Authority for Radio and Television (UBI) came to the conclusion that the documentary broadcast by Ticino television in September 2011 was not objectionable. Entrepreneur Schmidheiny had argued that the program violated the requirement of objective reporting. The UBI countered that it was always clear to viewers of the 55-minute report that the program was examining the asbestos problem from the perspective of the victims. This had also been pointed out by the moderator.

Present point of view

As reported by the newspapers Tages-Anzeiger and Der Bund in their editions of Tuesday, the Federal Supreme Court has now confirmed the UBI's decision and dismissed Schmidheiny's appeal. The judges in Lausanne reminded that the information mandate does not go so far that the defense position of the person concerned would also have to be represented. However, their point of view must be sufficiently presented. As far as the then pending trial against Schmidheiny in Italy was concerned, the presumption of innocence had been respected. Last June, a Turin appeals court had sentenced Schmidheiny to 18 years in prison in the trial over the asbestos deaths of workers. Schmidheiny plans to appeal the verdict. (SDA)

The Year of Advertising: Submission deadline extended

The submission deadline for the book *The Year of Advertising* has been extended. Agencies, companies, and institutions have until October 30 to submit their communication campaigns.

Condition: The measures were used or are to be used in Germany, Austria or Switzerland in 2013. For Thomas Rempen, The Year of Advertising occupies a position between the Art Directors Club (ADC) competition and the German Association of Communication Agencies (GWA): "The competition is a chronicle and at the same time depicts great ideas and the integrative aspects of communication. This is exactly what The Year of Advertising does better than the other two competitions."

Why competitions are becoming increasingly important

According to the press release, the Year of Advertising is not just about creation, but about the entire process. Peter Wippermann, trend researcher and co-editor, explains: "How do companies organize conversations with consumers? How is the announcement of products changing? We try to understand all of this and, of course, evaluate it." For him, competitions are much more important today than they used to be. "They are constantly taking place online. You see what other people are doing and talk about it."

The year of advertising can be digital

The third of the editors is Anette Scholz: "I'm looking forward to more digital submissions," says the professor of digital product design at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. And if it comes to that, then her calculation works out. "To the outside world, The Year of Advertising doesn't stand for expertise in the field of interactive applications. I convince decision-makers in multimedia agencies of this expertise. They have us less on their radar than traditional agencies."

Decision-makers from industry, media and agencies form the jury The award winners and industry comparison (shortlist) will be published in the Year of Advertising 2014 book, which will be distributed to the most important advertising companies in German-speaking countries after publication. The competition jury is made up of clients from the corporate side, creatives and strategists from agencies as well as media and trade media representatives. The communication professionals come from Germany, Austria and the Switzerland. The three editors of the Year of Advertising book are also members of the jury. An overview of all jury members can be found at Jdw.com/jury. Werbewoche is a media partner.

New free weekly newspaper in the Bernese Oberland

A new free weekly newspaper called Beo Zeitung is set to launch in the Bernese Oberland at the end of October. It will be distributed to over 120,000 households throughout the region. The paper devotes one page to the neighboring canton of Valais.

The first issue is due to appear on October 31, as Editor-in-Chief Matthias Mast confirmed on Wednesday in response to reports in various media. Mast was editor-in-chief of the Bernese free newspaper Berner Bär for many years. The paper was known as a people and event newspaper. The Beo Zeitung is not to become a Berner Bär for the Oberland, Mast emphasized on Wednesday when asked. The free newspaper will be more of a classic newspaper with news from the region as well as entertainment and various reader campaigns.

There are already a large number of different newspapers in the Bernese Oberland, such as the Thuner Tagblatt, the Berner Oberländer, the Jungfrau Zeitung or smaller papers such as the Frutigländer, the Simmental Zeitung or the Anzeiger von Saanen. Many of these newspapers are limited to a small area, such as a valley, emphasized Mast. With the new Beo newspaper, he wants to address a pan-Oberland identity.

The neighboring region of Valais is also to be included with its own page. After all, this region has moved much closer since the opening of the Neat base tunnel on the Lötschberg, explained Mast. With the free newspaper, Mast hopes to appeal in particular to readers who cannot afford an expensive newspaper subscription. According to Mast, he is currently in the process of setting up the editorial team. It comprises a core team of four people and works with around eight freelancers in the various regions. According to Mast, the idea for the newspaper project came from the Bernese Oberland telephone directory provider Jürg Künzle. A publishing family from the Baden region in Germany is also on board. According to Mast, the Beo Zeitung will also be printed there in future. (SDA)

Tamedia editorial offices paralyzed

The newspapers *Tages-Anzeiger*, *Der Bund*, *Berner Zeitung*, and other Tamedia publications were published late and with reduced content on Wednesday. A computer problem paralyzed several Tamedia newsrooms on Tuesday evening.

The problem was in Bern, where two central computers in a data center went down for several hours. The media company announced on Wednesday morning that the fault could only be rectified shortly after midnight. In some cases, it was no longer possible to produce a newspaper to the usual extent. The Tages-Anzeiger, Der Bund and the Berner Zeitung were therefore published on a reduced scale. The Tages-Anzeiger, for example, only had two frets instead of four. In some cases, the newspapers could not be delivered to all regions. Subscribers to the Zürcher Unterländer and Zürichsee-Zeitung had no reading material at breakfast - these titles were not published at all due to the technical problems. Subscribers will be credited with one issue. The business newspaper Finanz und Wirtschaft will only be published on Thursday instead of the usual Wednesday.

No impact on French-speaking Switzerland

The commuter newspaper 20 Minuten was printed and delivered despite delays. However, it contained duplicates: Switzerland's football victory over Slovenia was celebrated twice. Subscribers to the newspapers had to make do with a Bernese newspaper
Berner Oberländer and Thuner Tagblatt. However, the computer failure had no impact on French-speaking Switzerland. The computer problems could be followed on Twitter. Several editors kept readers up to date. The tweets and pictures showed that the editorial teams were working a night shift. The Tages-Anzeiger immediately introduced the hashtag #TAshutdown - in reference to the shutdown of the US administration. Shortly after midnight, for example, it said: "We are planning an emergency edition with Post-its. We are confident." And later: "3 a.m., the newspaper is in print".

"We apologize"

Tamedia is unhappy about the mishap. "We apologize to our readers for the inconvenience," said Tamedia spokesperson Christoph Zimmer at the request of the SDA news agency. The computer glitch is also unpleasant for the advertising customers who had bought advertising space in the newspapers, some of which did not appear. The advertising customers of Zürichsee-Zeitung and Zürcher Unterländer can now place advertisements in Thursday's large print run as compensation. Zimmer said that a solution would also be found with all other customers who had suffered a disadvantage. (SDA)

Notenstein Private Bank: "Thinking in scenarios"

In its latest advertising campaign, Notenstein Privatbank expands on its «scenario-based thinking» approach to explain complex economic relationships.

In the national business and daily press and online media, the St. Gallen-based bank illustrates the "Sitting out and sausage-making" and "Golden East" scenarios, which address possible developments in the economic and financial system. Infographics are used to explain complex economic relationships in an understandable way, thereby underpinning Notenstein Private Bank's forward-looking asset management. In times of upheaval, it is more important than ever to consider various scenarios for the future and the specific consequences for investment behavior.

The first print advertisement appeared in the newspaper Finanz und Wirtschaft on Wednesday, October 16. The campaign is accompanied online with advertising banners that point to the Scenario landing page of Notenstein. Notenstein Private Bank's internal communications team is responsible for the strategy and realization of the advertising campaign.

SSF launches "Comedy Monday" and satire format

New content at Sportszene fernsehen - SSF: With the first broadcast of the Swiss satirical magazine "Bild mit Ton" and the "Frischlingsparade" with Marco Fritsche, the station is launching "Comedy Monday" from next Monday, October 21, 2013.

With the idea of generating content with idiosyncratic humor inspired by role models such as Monty Python, Loriot or "Sendung ohne Namen," "Bild mit Ton" aims to meet and fill the broad gaping market in Switzerland, according to the press release. Through the mixture of youthful lightheartedness, unpredictable dynamics and unused faces, the team around slam poet Lara Stoll creates a new and unique tonality. "Bild mit Ton" is a provocative program that takes a closer look at world-changing topics for 24 minutes and examines them humorously, as well as critically, in various contributions. In an unconventional way, each episode weaves together content that is exhilarating, captivating and educational. Three overdrawn characters lead through the show: a female presenter (Lara Stoll), a hair-raising musician (Dominik Wolfinger) and a choleric computer scientist (Cyrill Oberholzer) with a love for the ant world.

The satirical trashy program, claims to fulfill a fun and knowledge mission. Unfortunately, the knowledgeable contributions often escape at the last second or cancel. A bit chaotic and loopy, but always self-deprecating, everything possible and impossible can happen. There is laughing, crying and dying.

SSF program director Philip Michel is enthusiastic about the new format: "Our station doesn't live off big budgets. That makes it all the more important for us to distinguish ourselves with new and unique programs. And because Bild mit Ton moves people's minds and has also polarized our editorial team, I like the format. One question arises in every episode: Is it even allowed to show something like this on television ...? But in the end, the clear opinion prevails: The Swiss television landscape is in desperate need of a refreshing comedy format ... and probably deserves it!"

Another component of "Comedy Monday" is the "Freshman Parade" with Marco Fritsche. Once a month, up-and-coming comedy, cabaret and cabaret talents present themselves to the audience at the Casinotheater Winterthur. Host Marco Fritsche presents the newcomers and chats with them about God and the world.

Wunderman: Perfumes have long legs

The Wunderman agency is launching a campaign to promote the relocation of the Marionnaud store at Zurich Airport.

The Marionnaud branch at Zurich Airport has moved to a larger store just across the street from its current location. To spread the news in the store's catchment area, Wunderman Zurich has created a small relocation campaign centered around a visual that illustrates the move in very concrete terms.

Extended by a pair of legs, the perfumes walk from one location to the next on the advertising media. The walking perfumes were used in all the advertising materials. They were also used on the construction wall, which protected the new store from prying eyes until the opening.

Responsible at Marionnaud: Vanesa Baleiron (Marketing Manager), Martina Müller (Sponsoring & Cooperations Manager), Christian Aeberli (POS Manager), Rätia Laeri (CRM Manager). Vresponsible at Wunderman (Member of Y&R Group Switzerland): Daniel Bieri (CD), Sonja Gross (AD), Florian Tillmann (text), Elias Zurbuchen (DTP), Rebecca Haug, Sonja Bernardi (consulting).
