Changes at the Zofinger Tagblatt

Beat Kirchhofer, the long-time editor-in-chief of the Zofinger Tagblatt, will step down from his editorial leadership role at the end of 2013. At the same time, the print, online, and radio editorial teams will be consolidated into a single newsroom.

Kirchhofer is stepping down as editor for health reasons, Zofinger Tagblatt announced Tuesday. In the future, he will concentrate on political reporting. Overall journalistic responsibility will in future lie with Adrian Gaberthüel, the previous head of IT/new media. The new Head of Journalism/Newsroom will assume his duties on November 1. Who will take over the management of the daily newspapers Zofinger Tagblatt and Luzerner Nachrichten has not yet been decided. The Zofinger Tagblatt has a circulation of around 15,000 copies and is affiliated with the newspaper association Die Nordwestschweiz. (SDA)

Last but not least: Fool yourself

Never Hide Films and Ray-Ban present the office desk of optical illusions.

For years, Ray Ban's "Never Hide Films" have been a viral success and have ensured that the sunglasses brand is always on everyone's lips (and noses). The latest prank is likely to be no different: "Super Clever Sunglass Illusion" has already generated over 250,000 YouTube clicks in just three days and is only just picking up speed. It shows a desk on which nothing is as it seems at first glance. Although this type of optical illusion is not new on YouTube, it is always astonishing. It's worth watching the movie to the end. Brandpulse: Merger with Designculture

The branding agency Brandpulse is acquiring a majority stake in Designculture, thereby merging with the architecture, retail, and product design specialist.

The agency Designculture, which is strong in the areas of interior design, retail concepts, exhibition and product design, has already cooperated closely with Brandpulse for six years within the framework of a strategic partnership, according to a statement. Following the merger, Designculture is now part of the Brandpulse Group, which also consists of the parent company Brandpulse and Brandpulse Corpcom.

The merger of Brandpulse and Designculture is the logical consequence of a successful collaboration in recent years: For example, the two agencies were able to jointly realize brand projects for clients such as Migrolino, Turmix, M-Way, Amavita, Meister Zürich and Migrol. Customers, partners and suppliers will not experience any changes as a result of the new situation: Teams and contact persons remain the same. However, the merger will enable both companies to exploit synergies even more effectively. Designculture will henceforth operate under the Brandpulse brand.

Designculture consists of a team of interior, product and industrial designers. As a general planner, Designculture realizes and supervises the implementation of concepts until they are handed over to the client. In the Brandpulse Group, specialists for brands (Brandpulse), 3D design (Designculture) and corporate communications (Brandpulse Corpcom) work under one roof.

Republica: Radio spots for Beef Steakhouse & Bar

The Beef Steakhouse & Bar is set to become a mecca for meat lovers. That’s why Republica created radio spots for the Bern steakhouse designed to whet people’s appetite for meat.

If you walk past the Beef Steakhouse under the Berner Lauben, you will see a glass refrigerator full of the finest meat in the shop window. When you enter the Beef and go up to the second floor of the upscale restaurant, stuffed buffalo heads stare back at you from the wall. When you sit down at one of the classically laid tables, the waiter brings out the lavishly laden meat trolley. It quickly becomes clear: this place is madness for people who like to eat steaks.

According to the press release, this consideration led to the creation of radio spots that transport the listener into the world of Hannibal Lecter. If you listen more closely, it is quite simply about "normal" processes in meat production. The spots will be on air on Radio Bern1 from October 14, 2013.

Responsible at Beef Steakhouse: Sven Rindlisbacher, Pascal Gigandet (Managing Directors Sportgastro), Dominique Mattenberger (Operations Manager/Kitchen Manager), Bruno Rico (Operations Manager Assistant). Responsible at Republica: Chris Morgan (creative direction), Mike Krüll (creative direction, text and concept), Bala Trachsel (overall responsibility).

Hofer: BEKB campaign for retirement planning

On October 14, the Bern Cantonal Bank (BEKB) will launch its fall campaign on the topic of retirement planning and advice. For the campaign, Hofer has showcased items that have gone out of style and asks: «Do you remember this?»

Anyone who can answer this question with a yes and immediately reminisces about their youth belongs (according to the agency, editor's note) to the 55+ target group. In this way, the viewer is made aware of the important topic of personal pension provision and thus also of BEKB's range of products and services. The campaign runs via direct mailings to existing customers, the BEKB website, advertisements and at the POS of over 70 branches.

Statement/Jim&Jim: Doubt Chips Blaster Implemented

Together with Jim&Jim and Aroma, Statement designed and implemented a special brand experience for Zweifel Pomy Chips to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Paprika Chips: the Zweifel Chips Blaster.

The Zweifel Chips Blaster, which is over six meters high and almost five meters wide, was successfully used at the largest Swiss open air festivals during the summer. By means of four high-performance fans, hundreds of small Styrofoam chips were whirled around in the air. With the aim of capturing the red chips, festival visitors experienced a very special brand experience in the product itself in the walk-in Chips Blaster. Thanks to the enormous visibility, the blaster increased the attention of the overall presentation and thus also provided a lot of discussion outside the festivals, such as in various forums and on Facebook.

The waiting time in the meter-long queues gave the promotions crew the opportunity to talk to consumers on a one-to-one basis. Per festival, the Blaster was tried out by 1'200 to 1'600 enthusiastic visitors. An integral part of this year's overall festival appearance was a Zweifel kiosk, also in the form of a packet of paprika chips. Zweifel Pomy-Chips used this in combination with an automated raffle to increase sustainability and minimize waste. For example, festival-goers received a chance to win an instant prize for each empty chip pack with a winning code that was returned. Throughout the summer, over one million chip samples were distributed, according to the release!

Responsible at Zweifel Pomy-Chips: Christoph Ernst (Group Product Manager), Philip Honegger and Sabina Thaqi (Sponsoring & Events). Responsible at Statement: Philipp Brunner (overall responsibility, strategy and concept), Renato Auer (project staff) Responsible at Jim&Jim: Fabio Emch (Managing Director, Concept), Cyrill Steiner (Head of Promotions), Esther Zumstein (Project Staff), Tobias Bonfanti (Direction and Implementation Event Film). Responsible at Aroma: Yves Thommen (consulting), Lukas Baumgartner (project manager), Marco Wüest (project staff).

Wirz: Road safety campaign launched

Wirz has launched a road safety campaign for ACS, Roadcross Switzerland and VSR. The aim is to increase consideration for senior citizens at pedestrian crossings.

According to a press release, over 2000 pedestrians are injured in road traffic accidents in Switzerland every year. Older people are particularly at risk compared to other groups of people. Misunderstandings often occur at pedestrian crossings in particular. To counteract this situation, the ACS (Automobile Club of Switzerland), Roadcross Switzerland and the VSR (Swiss Road Safety Council) are relaunching the eye contact campaign. The campaign, which is financed by the FVS (Road Safety Fund) and aims to improve communication between road users at pedestrian crossings, is focusing this year on consideration for senior citizens. Accordingly, the campaign message "Seek eye contact" has been supplemented with the request "Be considerate".

Eye contact is the simplest form of communication. If you make eye contact with other road users, you show your intentions and quickly find out whether you have been seen. If no eye contact is made, however, it can quickly become dangerous and you should be particularly careful. The campaign includes new TV commercials with a hidden camera, advertisements, posters, banners and a website.

Responsible at ACS, Roadcross, VSR: Niklaus Zürcher (Director ACS), Stefan Ingold (Managing Director VSR), Valesca Zaugg (Managing Director Roadcross Switzerland), Monique Ben-Shmuel (Campaign Manager), Anita Brechtbühl (Deputy Campaign Manager). Responsible at Wirz Advertising: Andi Portmann, Rob Hartmann (CD), Marion Marxer (overall responsibility digital), Florian Molinari (AD), Paul Labun, Tanja Jablanovic (graphics), Winfried Schneider (text), Ruben Frank, Ursula Christen (technology), Karin Krummenacher, Flurin Hardt, Fabiana Imhof (consulting), Gordon Nemitz (strategy), Sebahat Derdiyok (agency producer), Markenfilm (film production), Yves Roth (photography), Zipmedia (media).

Appeal: House search in federal court

The Neuchâtel Public Prosecutor's Office is appealing to the Federal Supreme Court regarding the search of a journalist's home. The Cantonal Court had ruled that the search ordered by the Public Prosecutor's Office was illegal. An appeal is being filed against that ruling.

By order of the public prosecutor's office, police officers searched the home of journalist Ludovic Rocchi in mid-August and confiscated electronic data (Werbewoche.ch reported). Rocchi had uncovered a plagiarism affair at the University of Neuchâtel for Le Matin. The accused professor was provisionally suspended after an administrative investigation revealed partial plagiarism. However, the professor filed a lawsuit against the journalist for defamation, libel and violation of official secrecy. This complaint ultimately led to a house search.

House search illegal according to cantonal court

There was a huge outcry throughout Switzerland: the newspaper Le Matin, media unions and media experts denounced the action as a violation of press freedom. In mid-September, the cantonal court ruled that the house search was illegal. The confiscated material had to be returned immediately. The public prosecutor's office is not satisfied with this. Because the case law on the boundary between interests is not very extensive, the issue is to be clarified by the highest court.

Balancing interests and freedom of the press

The public prosecutor's office stated in the press release on Monday that it does not deny the importance of protecting the freedom of the press. In cases involving a journalist, a balance must always be struck between freedom of the press and other principles. In this case, it was the principle that allowed the authorities to make decisions calmly and without external pressure. In the opinion of the public prosecutor's office, the university lecturer does not represent a sufficient point of contention for the public to cover the affair in the press before the authorities have decided on the case.

Chief public prosecutor defends his authority

In the one-and-a-half page press release, Chief Public Prosecutor Pierre Aubert also defended himself against the insinuations made by certain media outlets that the house search was a retaliatory measure against a journalist who was too inquisitive. Nor was it a question of protecting a well-known person. The criminal authorities would carry out their work according to the seriousness of the alleged offenses and not according to the identity or status of the persons concerned.

Imprint confident

In a press release issued on Monday evening, the journalists' association Impressum expressed confidence that the public interest in media freedom would be given greater weight by the Federal Supreme Court. The public prosecutor's office is playing down the protection of media professionals' sources, although this is a fundamental prerequisite for the functioning of the media in the service of democracy. In addition, the authorities - in this case the public prosecutor in his statement - should under no circumstances presume to judge what the media should report on. The media themselves decide what reporting is in the public interest. (SDA/hae)

JWT/Fabrikant: iPhone hacked for Groupe Mutuel

If you want to protect yourself as effectively as possible against cybercriminals, you need to understand exactly how they operate. To drive this point home, JWT/Fabrikant became a hacker itself on behalf of Groupe Mutuel.

After extensive research, JWT/Fabrikant Zurich cracked a security innovation that Apple had been working on for several years in less than twenty minutes: Apple Touch ID. Equipped with nothing more than a small bottle of liquid latex, the researchers were able to easily create an artificial fingerprint from the grease mark on the glass surface of an iPhone, according to the press release. The device was then unlocked in the normal way.

The agency specializing in social media filmed this coup and disseminated the result via YouTube. Of course, it did not do so without pointing out how to protect oneself against such minor and major crimes: With the digital all-round protection of Groupe Mutuel.

Valencia: Campaign for Coop Disney action

From October 14 to November 30, Coop is offering five Disney collectible stickers for every 20 francs spent during its fall collection promotion. Valencia was commissioned to design and implement the entire communication for the collectible fun.

After the great successes of Big Win and Simsala Win (also implemented by Valencia: Werbewoche.ch reported), the next big promotion is now coming up at Coop: The Magical World of Disney. With Mickey and Minnie, Dusty from Planes, the Disney princesses, Winnie the Pooh and many more. "When our agency found out about the new promotion, we saw shiny little eyes everywhere," admits creative director Tommy Schilling in a statement. "I don't think there's anyone who hasn't been permanently influenced by Disney. Disney awakens childhood dreams in us - no matter how old you are."

This magic then had to be made visible effectively in the advertising. Since Disney characters are the best ambassadors for Disney, it was soon clear that they should play a leading role in the TV spot. Thus, in Hollywood style, a cinema and TV spot was created to make Coop Promotion known throughout Switzerland: with lots of excitement, even more fun, breathtaking action and magical moments. In addition, advertisements, posters, flyers, a competition and all POS advertising materials including an in-store spot were created and implemented. The matching scrapbook as well as the numerous collectible pictures come from Panini.

In addition, Hello Family Club members received a direct mailing presenting the Disney promotion. With lots of Disney information, coloring sheets, free stickers, the raffle of 10 family trips to Disneyland Paris and many exclusive discounts, the collecting fever is fanned right at the start of the promotion.

Migros runs out of minis

Marketing coup: The success of the Mini-Mania collection campaign was so great that Migros ran out of stock ahead of schedule.

Due to the huge demand, the mini products of the current Mini-Mania collection campaign are out of stock ahead of schedule despite planned reserves. The last delivery to stores took place on Monday. This means that many stores may run out of Minis in the next few days. However, Minis are still available at the exchange points in Migros restaurants and, from Monday, also at the online exchange point at Minimania.ch.

Migros said in a statement on Monday that no one had expected the mini products to be sold out before the official end of the collection campaign on October 28, 2013. The huge collection fever that has broken out has far exceeded all expectations. Already in the next few days, most stores may no longer be able to deliver Minis, which Migros regrets.
