Havas: New subjects for outdoor advertising Switzerland

Havas Worldwide Zurich launches the new subjects for the poster campaign of AWS Aussenwerbung Schweiz. Under the motto "For big things. The poster.", Mini Babybel and Smart are now also advertising posters.

They prove that even small products can be made large enough to be successful in the market thanks to the presence and visibility of billboard advertising. The two products thus complement a series of brand icons in small format. Victorinox pocket knives, Haribo Gold Bears, BIC razors, and Duracell batteries have already used the poster as a large medium. The new subjects can now be seen throughout Switzerland.

BCP 2014: Corporate publishing on the rise

«In the future, corporate publishers must assert their leadership role even more strongly in content-driven corporate communications,» emphasized FCP Chairman Andreas Siefke at the 12th BCP Congress, which took place on Friday in Munich.

"The more paid, owned and earned media grow together, the more content agencies can set the tone as to which content is played out via which channels at which touchpoints with customers, users and readers," Siefke continues. In content marketing and corporate publishing, content takes the lead! Together with its media partners acquisa, Horizont, w&v and werbewoche, Forum Corporate Publishing welcomed more than 700 guests to the BCP Congress and the subsequent awards ceremony.

The industry event of the year was entitled "Content counts" and brought together CP experts from Germany, Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands. Success factors for corporate media, the future of mobile content and other national and international CP topics were discussed.

One of this year's congress highlights was the presentation by Handelsblatt publisher Gabor Steingart, who explained the challenges and opportunities for publishers in the digital age. In his presentation, Christian Rätsch, CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi, emphasized the rapidly growing importance of mobile media for individuals and society. In order for companies to be the decisive step ahead of their target group, they must strategically accompany this development from the very beginning. From product development to sales, marketing and service: "Companies need a digitizer."

Clemens Koob presented the results of the new baseline study at the BCP Congress. Koob summarized the topic "Print, online, mobile - CP in a new dimension" as follows: "Information and entertainment, snacks and background information - our thirst for content is immense. Stories that inspire, answer questions and solve problems are therefore the key to the hearts and minds of customers and employees. The new baseline study shows how companies use this 'content power'."

Winners of the BCP Awards

Following the congress, the coveted BCP Awards were presented in front of around 680 guests. A total of 47 gold award winners were selected from over 700 publications submitted for the BCP 2014. "The importance and growth potential of CP media remains high," says Michael Höflich, Managing Director of Forum Corporate Publishing (FCP). "With its nominees and award winners, the BCP confirms what our baseline study empirically proves: That content-driven corporate communication is on a par with other marketing disciplines."

The coveted BCP Awards in cube design were presented in 28 categories and four times as a special prize. Main sponsor Steinbeis Papier honored publications with a high sustainability factor with the "Green Publishing" award, the printing company Laserline from Berlin awarded CP media with outstanding print finishing and print processing with the special prize "Print & Innovation", the "International Communication" prize for international communication concepts and the best CP cover with the "Cover of the Year" award were also presented.

The 150-strong BCP jury was impressed by the variety of media submitted. With over 700 publications, a record number of entries was achieved this year. In particular, there has been a strong increase in submissions for the special prizes "Green Publishing" and "Print and Innovation". "Many companies have now internalized that sustainability is one of the most important success factors, that they must face up to their responsibility towards the environment and society and communicate this transparently. This strategic approach is also increasingly being practiced in the implementation of corporate publications," says Michael Höflich.

All nominated publications, gold award winners and photos of the congress and the award ceremony are available at Bcp-award.com.

Reinforcement for the FCP Board

At the general meeting of the Forum Corporate Publishing, the board was confirmed in office. Andreas Siefke, Managing Director of Bissinger, remains Chairman of the FCP. In addition to the chairmanship, six other positions were awarded in the scheduled elections: Christian Fill (Managing Director of Burda Creative Group) was re-elected as Deputy Chairman. Ralf Ansorge (Managing Director Profilwerkstatt) retains his position as the third member of the Board of Directors. Olaf Wolff (Managing Director Publicis) was confirmed as divisional board member for "Generic Marketing". Holger König (Managing Director Koenigsfilm) is a new addition and will be the divisional director for "Moving Image" in future.

There are personnel changes in Switzerland and Austria, as both boards did not stand for re-election after two terms. Viviane Egli (Managing Director Primafila) replaces Urs Arnold as the Swiss country representative. In Austria, Christine Starmühler (Managing Director of Starmühler Werbeagentur & Verlag) is taking over from Klaus Lerch.

Publigroupe case: Tamedia complaint dismissed

The Takeover Committee of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) has dismissed a complaint filed by Tamedia. The complaint concerned a ruling requiring Tamedia to adjust its public tender offer for Publigroupe, which was made on May 11.

Tamedia only wanted to take over the advertising marketer on the condition that its loss-making subsidiary Publicitas would actually be sold. This condition was deemed by the Swiss Takeover Board (TOB) not to comply with the statutory provisions on public takeover bids, as detailed in a press release issued on Thursday. Tamedia had lodged an appeal against this with the next higher instance.

Tamedia's merger with Swisscom made the takeover bid practically obsolete. Legally, however, the offer still existed, which is why the Finma Takeover Committee had to deal with the issue.

According to the Finma ruling of July 3, "the sale of Publicitas, the media sales division of Publigroupe, to the German company Aurelius was completed as announced on June 30, 2014". In its ruling, the Finma Takeover Committee dismissed Tamedia's appeal "insofar as it has not become irrelevant".

The Swiss Takeover Board has determined that Swisscom's public takeover offer to Publigroupe shareholders complies with the statutory provisions, "provided that the offer prospectus is corrected", it added. (SDA)

Tamedia examines major merger of editorial offices

The Sonntagszeitung and the Tages-Anzeiger are set to grow closer. The publisher is considering merging several departments, according to the NZZ am Sonntag.

Three working groups are already discussing the merger of the two editorial offices. This was confirmed by Tamedia spokesman Christoph Zimmer to the NZZ am Sonntag. According to Zimmer, "cooperation in the society, culture and knowledge departments" is being examined. And as the NZZ knows from several internal editorial sources, further areas are likely to be affected in the future, including the foreign department, as well as the layout and production of the two newspapers.

However, the details of a merger are still open: "Various models are conceivable. For example, a model based on the sports section or one in which several teams specifically cover individual topics for both newspapers," says Zimmer when asked by NZZ am Sonntag. They are now looking for other models of cooperation that would allow "the DNA of both titles to be preserved".

Some Tages-Anzeiger journalists now fear that the merger would have an impact on the independent character of the two newspapers and could lead to job cuts.

Clear Channel launches campaign planning tool

With Mobility Map, Clear Channel has launched a system that uses the mobility behavior of the Swiss population for OOH campaign planning.

By knowing from where to where the target persons are moving and with what intention, relevant target groups can be reached much more precisely and wastage can be minimized. Clear Channel writes this in a press release. With "Mobility Map", Clear Channel has launched a ground-breaking innovation for more precise planning of outdoor advertising campaigns on its billboard sites.

The tool is based on a traffic model developed jointly by the Institute for Traffic Planning and Transportation Systems at ETH Zurich and the solution provider Axon Active. This allows detailed statements to be made about the traffic volume per road section as well as the purpose of the journey, the means of transportation used and the socio-demographics of the respective target group. In this way, it is possible to plan, for example, which Clear Channel poster sites are most likely to be passed by high-earning women aged between 30 and 45 on their way to shopping in fashion stores in the city.

Mobility Map simulates the traffic behavior of the Swiss population on an average working day using virtually generated movement patterns. This innovative approach was supported by the Federal Office for Professional Education and Technology with a grant. Clear Channel makes the results of this project exclusively available for the planning of out-of-home campaigns. These can thus be planned more precisely and advertising budgets used more efficiently. This is because Mobility Map shows exactly which poster sites are passed by the relevant target group on the way to any point of interest.

Jürg Rötheli, CEO Clear Channel Switzerland, explains: "Out-of-home advertising appeals to mobile people. This is why it is particularly important to know the mobility behavior of the population when planning out-of-home advertising campaigns. Mobility Map assigns a different value to each individual poster site for each campaign target and for each customer. We are proud to be able to support our customers even more specifically in planning their campaigns in future and to use their advertising funds even more efficiently." Oliver Schönfeld, Marketing Director Clear Channel Switzerland, explains: "For advertisers with chain stores such as car dealerships, retailers, restaurant chains or DIY stores, Mobility Map is a ground-breaking tool for more precise campaign planning in the catchment area of the point of interest. Mobility Map perfectly complements the radius search previously used for poster campaigns."

The tool will be used operationally for campaign planning from September 2014. In the coming weeks, roadshows will be held at customers and agencies to explain and demonstrate Mobility Map in more detail.
