BAG: Stronger is the one who is "SmokeFree

In Switzerland, the number of smokers has been stagnant for several years. Together with the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), the cantons, and NGOs, Havas Worldwide Zurich aims to change this.

A three-year campaign aims to persuade people in Switzerland not to smoke and to support them in quitting. The already established brand "SmokeFree" was retained and expanded to include the claim "I am stronger". "I am stronger" is a motivational message for everyone who wants to quit smoking, for those who are in the process of quitting and those who have been smoke-free for some time.

In its first year, the campaign aims to strengthen smokers' will to quit. Not only the health consequences will be communicated. People are to be grabbed by their pride. That's why the TV ads show how smoking takes away the things we all value: Our achievements, our appearance, our health.

The key visual of this first campaign phase is the cloud that covers the head. It dramatizes how much addiction takes hold of smokers. These clouds can also be seen in print and on posters. However, negative messages were avoided here. Instead, normal people from the street demonstrate how to stop smoking and make it clear: Anyone can do it. And it's only natural to be supported in the process.

The campaign is accompanied by a website relaunch. In addition to design and usability, the orientation of the platform was also Smokefree.ch revised. As the FOPH is working with cantons and NGOs for this campaign, the partners' support services are brought to the fore. Thus, people who want to stop smoking can find a support offer in their region that is suitable for them through an interactive map.

The campaign will run for three years and is divided into just as many phases. The first phase aims to motivate people to stop smoking. In the second phase, the campaign supports people who are in the process of quitting smoking and those around them. The third phase aims to establish non-smoking as a matter of course and to confirm non-smokers in their decision. In line with these objectives, new print subjects and spots will be placed from the second phase onwards. In addition, the campaign will be flanked by two sub-projects: In the fall of 2015, an innovative tool will be launched to bring friends together to quit smoking. And in the two-year project "SmokeFree on site," partners of the campaign will come into direct contact with people through campaigns starting in spring 2016.

The campaign has been running since February 16, 2015.

Radio Grischa becomes Radio Südostschweiz

Starting February 17, 2015, Radio Grischa will broadcast under the name Radio Südostschweiz. It will thus bear the name of the «Südostschweiz» media group. The sound design and some program titles will be updated.

"Ds Radio vu do" will remain "ds Radio vu do", emphasizes programme director Melanie Salis. "The proven team will carry on the spirit of Radio Grischa". "With the name change, we want to strengthen our media family, which consists of the newspaper Südostschweiz, the online platform Suedostschweiz.ch, TV Südostschweiz and Radio Südostschweiz," says Andrea Masüger, CEO of Somedia. The change of station name also goes hand in hand with the expanded license area, which now also includes the canton of Glarus. "We cannot operate under the name Radio Grischa in Glarnerland," continues Andrea Masüger.

Apart from the name, nothing significant will be changed in the radio concept. The voices will remain the same and the mix of news, moderation and good music will also be retained. "In particular, our focus on regional reporting will continue to increase in quality thanks to new working tools and processes," says program director Melanie Salis with conviction. The radio will also retain its tried-and-tested mascot. "Our Grischaböckli will return from his trip around the world. It will be a little more mature and cheeky and will continue to stand for our radio," says Melanie Salis.

Radio Südostschweiz - new name and new location

Somedia has invested a seven-figure sum in new studios and technology to give Radio Südostschweiz a good start into the future. Radio Südostschweiz will work together with the editorial team of the newspaper Südostschweiz, the online team and TV Südostschweiz in the new media center in Chur in the News Zone. The new way of working is intended in particular to promote the exchange of information, ideas and experience.

Radio with tradition

Radio Südostschweiz continues the long private radio tradition in Graubünden and Sarganserland. Under the direction of Matthias Lauterburg, Radio Grischa was first heard on Saturday, June 13, 1987. The founding team included well-known names such as Felix Benesch, Tristan Brenn, Claudia Cadruvi, Jürg Rageth and Gieri Spescha. The short trial, which was financed by the then Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) on the occasion of its 125th anniversary, lasted 30 days. The following year, Radio Grischa received its definitive license and was able to start broadcasting in Nordbünden and Sarganserland on December 9, 1988. Radio Piz Corvatsch, its sister station in the southern Grisons, was launched on January 1, 1990. For economic reasons, some of the main shareholders withdrew from both radios at the end of the 1990s. The then Südostschweiz Mediengruppe, now Somedia, took over the economic responsibility, ensured a healthy financial basis and enabled Radio Grischa and Radio Piz, which broadcast under the name Radio Engiadina from February 2, 2004, to continue broadcasting.

Swiss ESC song: accusations of plagiarism

Mélanie René, the Swiss representative at this year's Eurovision Song Contest, is said to have used a song by superstar Beyoncé. No reason to get excited, says SRF.

As Schweiz am Sonntag writes, the evidence provided by a comparison video on YouTube, which has since been removed, is "overwhelming". Even a music layman could recognize where René got the inspiration for her winning song "Time to Shine". We are talking about Beyoncé Knowles' hit "Run the World", which is said to have served as the template for René's song.

Schweiz am Sonntag then confronted Beyoncé's management with the allegations of plagiarism. They stated that they had never heard of the Swiss artist - but that they would sue anyone who copied songs or ideas from Beyoncé. SRF spokeswoman Eva Wismer is unimpressed: the song is an original composition by the artist and there is no question of disqualification. René's label Believe Music then had the comparison video deleted. For good reason, it seems: without the "overwhelming evidence", it seems difficult - at least for listeners who are not familiar with the two songs - to work out what exactly is being disputed. Especially as "being inspired" is an integral part of pop culture. Beyoncé is probably aware of this - she has been increasingly accused of stealing Music or choreography was accused. (hae/SaS)

Last but not least: product recall

A product recall notice for German small arms published in the Berlin daily newspaper *Taz* sparked a lot of discussion—and achieved the desired viral effect.

We are also familiar with the issue here in Switzerland: the arms industry not only exports a lot, but also to countries that enjoy a dubious reputation and do not always take human rights very seriously. Last September, the War Material Ordinance was even relaxed, and now "a license can be granted if there is a low risk that the war material to be exported will be used to commit serious human rights violations." (Source). This means that neutral Switzerland can once again welcome countries such as Pakistan, the Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia to its customer portfolio. Out of sight, out of mind - after all, the buyers transfer money on time and thus secure Swiss jobs.

The question of which war material should be sold to whom is also preoccupying Germany. The German peace organization DFG-VK wants to stop arms exports and has achieved maximum attention with a newspaper advertisement. A fictitious product recall:

Independent tests have shown that fatal incidents can occur if the weapons are operated correctly. It must be assumed that millions of people worldwide have already been killed by these German weapons. The number of injuries is likely to far exceed these figures.

It is unlikely that Heckler & Koch, Carl Walther and SIG Sauer will heed the call for a recall. The fact that the DFG-VK's action Waffenrueckruf.de but further sensitized to the problem of arms exports. (hae)

Terrorist attacks shake Denmark

Within ten hours, a man in Copenhagen shot a filmmaker during a discussion on freedom of expression and a Jewish security guard outside a synagogue. Five police officers were injured.

A manhunt ended in the early hours of Sunday morning with fatal shots fired by security forces at the suspected attacker. The acts were reminiscent of the attacks on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris and caused consternation in many countries. According to the Danish security authority PET, the acts of terrorism in Paris may have inspired the suspected attacker to carry out his deeds. As in France, he was previously known to the police. Denmark does not want to be intimidated. "There are many questions that the police still have to answer," said Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt. "But there is one answer that we can already give today. And that is that we will defend our democracy." Denmark's Queen Margrethe called on the Danes to stick together after the terrorist attacks.

On Saturday afternoon, the assassin fired an automatic weapon from outside the cultural café where an event on "Art, Blasphemy and Free Speech" was taking place. The 55-year-old film director Finn Nørgaard was killed and three police officers were injured.

Motives initially unclear

Head of the secret service Jens Madsen said that the attacker was known to the security authorities. On Sunday evening, the Danish police announced that the suspected perpetrator was a 22-year-old man who was born in Denmark. He had come to the attention of the security authorities through various criminal offenses such as possession of weapons, acts of violence and bank crime. His name has not been released. The attack was presumably aimed at the Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks. Islamists have criticized him for years because of his Muhammad cartoons. He has already been the target of several attacks. Vilks was unharmed. A manhunt was launched immediately. According to the police, the assassin first fled in a dark VW Polo and then by cab. He had himself driven to his apartment not far away. Around ten hours after the first attack, the same perpetrator probably tried to break into a synagogue after midnight. He opened fire and fatally shot a man in the head - a 37-year-old volunteer security guard, according to the Jewish community. Two police officers were injured. Around 80 people were gathered in the building for a celebration - the bat mitzvah. In the meantime, the police had taken up position in front of the man's apartment. Shortly before 5.00 a.m., the alleged perpetrator returned. The security forces called out to him. He immediately opened fire. The officers fired back and fatally shot him.

No stay as a jihadist

The investigators initially did not want to reveal the identity of the man. "He comes from Copenhagen, that's all we can say," said PET chief Madsen. There was no evidence of accomplices or that the man had been a jihadist in Syria or Iraq. Panic and chaos reigned in Copenhagen at times. The events took place in the city center. The situation was completely unclear for hours. The German Federal Police were also deployed and monitored traffic at the three border crossings in Flensburg. German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her condolences to the families of the victims. In a telephone conversation with Thorning-Schmidt, she emphasized that Germany stands firmly by Denmark's side in the face of the inhumane attacks. EU Council President Donald Tusk said: "Our determination to combat all forms of extremism and terrorism is only strengthened by such attacks."

French President François Hollande paid a visit to the Danish embassy in Paris. Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve traveled to Copenhagen and laid flowers at the site of the first attack - together with Danish Justice Minister Mette Frederiksen and French Ambassador François Zimeray. Zimeray had survived the attack on the cultural café.

British Prime Minister David Cameron expressed his concern. The USA offered its help to Denmark. Saudi Arabia also condemned the two terrorist attacks in Copenhagen and recalled the killing of three Muslims in the USA. Copenhagen will commemorate the victims of the weekend on Monday evening.

Charlie Hebdo sees Islamists' war on culture

Now more than ever: For Charlie Hebdo, the attacks in Copenhagen are no reason to practice self-censorship out of fear. "It's terrible, because this is happening a month after the Paris attacks, and it brings back all the sadness," Charlie Hebdo chronicler Patrick Pelloux told the AFP news agency. "These fascist integrists are waging a war against culture." They are trying to eliminate writers, illustrators and filmmakers through fear, Pelloux said.

Tamedia acquires Tutti.ch and Car4you.ch outright

Tamedia acquires the 50 percent stake held by the Norwegian Schibsted Media Group in the previously jointly held subsidiary Swiss Classified Media, which operates Tutti.ch and Car4you.ch.

Schibsted Media Group and Tamedia have agreed to continue their cooperation in strategy, development and technology in Switzerland for the next three years, regardless of the new ownership structure, according to a statement.

The classifieds platform Tutti.ch was launched in Switzerland in 2010. Tutti.ch is to be further strengthened through synergies with the OLX platform acquired from Naspers. Car4you.ch has already been present in the Swiss market since 1997 and, according to Tamedia, has achieved a leading position among professional car dealers. By combining the strengths of Autoricardo.ch and Car4you.ch, a strong alternative to Autoscout24 is to be created in the car market. Scout24 Switzerland is owned by Ringier Digital.

The purchase price for Schibsted's stake in Swiss Classified Media consists of 15 million euros plus a performance-based payment of a maximum of 12.5 million Swiss francs in 2019 based on the development of tutti.ch in 2018. The transaction is subject to approval by the Swiss Federal Competition Commission.

Mosaic and Eighty Nine: Sunrise Award Night

On December 11, Sunrise invited its employees to the «Sunrise Award Night,» an extraordinary Christmas party. The event was conceived, designed, and organized by the agencies Mosaik and Eighty Nine.

The highlight of the evening at Zurich's Club X-tra: for some it was the performance by show act Bligg, for others Xenia Tchoumitcheva, who hosted the evening. But they were both topped by the award ceremony itself: the Sunrise Award for the best implementation of the new values of "fairness", "transparency" and "customer orientation" in everyday life.

Unbenannt-24_15

In early summer, the teams were invited to submit their successful implementation of the values. A jury evaluated the submissions and nominated three teams for the award. All employees were able to vote for their favorite team and were rewarded with the Award Night. Stefan Kern, Head of Communications at Sunrise, is satisfied: "The collaboration was direct and uncomplicated, the implementation professional. And no detail was forgotten". Mosaik named and designed the event "Sunrise Award Night" and created a corporate event design that ran through all communication materials and the interior design. The agency was also responsible for the entire course of the evening.

The landlord must take action in the event of defects

Anyone who is cold or annoyed by a neighbor can hold their landlord liable.

You may be familiar with this situation: you're sitting in your office and freezing because the heating is not working; the wall is covered in gray stains because the facade is poorly insulated; or you can't concentrate because a music teacher has moved into the room next door. Such conditions can really annoy tenants. Or - as the lawyers say - they restrict their contractual use of the rented property. These are defects under tenancy law that the landlord must rectify.
