Brand Predictor: Migros is the most popular brand

Migros is Switzerland's most popular brand and, according to the latest Brand Predictor study by the advertising agency Havas Worldwide Switzerland, has moved into first place, followed by M-Budget and Nespresso.

As part of the latest Brand Predictor study commissioned by the advertising agency Havas Worldwide Switzerland, 4,145 people in Switzerland were asked about 560 domestic and foreign brands. The Migros brand, in 2nd place in 2014, is the most popular brand in Switzerland according to the latest survey. The M-Budget brand, which currently occupies 2nd place among the top brands, was again rated as having an excellent image by respondents.

The top brands are determined from the combination of perceived dynamism and perceived trust. In the ranking of the most trustworthy brands, Migros took first place in 2015, ahead of Toblerone and Chocolat Frey. In the ranking of the most dynamic brands, M-Budget is in first place ahead of YouTube and Zalando.

Trendsetters, known as brand predictors, can already predict the top brands of the coming years. According to their ratings, Migros is also likely to be the most trusted brand in 2017 and continue to occupy first place among the top brands.

"I am delighted that the Migros brand enjoys the greatest popularity among the Swiss. This award is an incentive for us to continue our passionate commitment to the quality of life of our customers in the future," says Herbert Bolliger, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives.

Le Temps dismisses ten people

The editorial staff at Le Temps is being downsized. The editorial staff responded to impending layoffs by Ringier with voluntary departures. While Ringier refers to a «good agreement,» the editorial staff is concerned about the quality of the newspaper.

Eight redundancies (7.3 full-time positions) were announced to the editorial team on Monday, Daniel Pillard told the SDA news agency on Thursday. Pillard is Director of Ringier Romandie. The newspaper's editorial and staff association had then presented the management with a list of ten people who wanted to leave Le Temps voluntarily. According to Pillard, these ten people correspond to 8.8 full-time positions. Ringier had agreed to replace its own list with that of the staff association, provided the number of departures did not exceed ten and the newspaper's production was not affected, Pillard said. Because the voluntary departures are well distributed, the newspaper is not in danger. The people affected can leave immediately. They will be paid five salaries - two wages more than stipulated in their contract. Technically, however, these are redundancies. This means that those affected will not be disadvantaged by the unemployment fund, said Pillard. He spoke of a good outcome to the talks with the social partners.

Editorial team concerned about the quality of the newspaper

The editorial and staff association of Le Temps does not share the optimism of the director of Ringier Romandie. One member criticized to sda the enormous price for the editorial team, which is concerned about the working rhythm and quality of the newspaper. The association nevertheless welcomed the fact that Ringier Romandie had agreed to create a kind of "counter for redundancy candidatures". According to the member of the editorial association, eight journalists are among the ten dismissed. The Ringier media company took over the daily newspaper Le Temps in April 2014 (Werbewoche.ch reported). Previously, the newspaper was 46.2 percent owned by Tamedia and Ringier. As Ringier Romandie employs around 250 people, this is not a mass redundancy. The procedure laid down for this only applies to redundancies of at least ten percent of the workforce, which would correspond to 25 employees. The journalists' association Impressum regretted the "painful" redundancies in a press release, but welcomed the fact that an alternative solution could be negotiated.

Newsroom from May

In addition to the downsized editorial team, there are other changes at Le Temps. On May 2, the joint newsroom with L'Hebdo and Edelweiss in Lausanne will go into operation. The merger of the editorial teams was already announced last September. Around 90 journalists will work in the newsroom, including 70 from Le Temps, around 15 from L'Hebdo and 5 from Edelweiss. Only around ten employees will remain at Le Temps' previous headquarters in Geneva.

Edelweiss: Staff halved

At the beginning of March, Ringier announced that the women's magazine Edelweiss would be merging with its Swiss-German counterpart Bolero (Werbewoche.ch reported). As a result of the merger, the Edelweiss staff will now be halved to five people. The remaining employees will be brought together in the Life Style Factory, which produces the corresponding pages for Le Temps, L'Hebdo and
will produce the French-speaking Swiss edition of Bolero. (SDA)

Coop cuts prices on 89 Italian magazines

Coop has scored its first victory in the battle with publishers over passing on currency gains. The publisher Johnsons International News Italia is offering the retailer lower prices on 89 Italian magazines, Coop announced on Thursday.

The price reductions range between 10 and 16 percent, as Blick reported on Thursday morning. In mid-March, Coop withdrew 13 magazines from euro countries from sale because the publishers did not want to pass on the currency gains they were making due to the appreciation of the franc. So far, however, only Johnsons has shown itself to be cooperative, according to the press release. By contrast, there are currently no price reductions for French and German magazines.

On Wednesday, German publishers spoke out on the matter. They described the measures taken by the Swiss retailer as arbitrary. The Spiegel publishing house, for example, said that Coop was violating existing contracts in a discriminatory manner by removing magazine titles from its range. (SDA)

Wirz Corporate: Anniversary appearance "500 Years of Reformation

The year 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the start of the Reformation. To commemorate this occasion, the Reformed Churches of Switzerland are planning numerous events, publications, and communication activities.

The jubilee appearance developed by Wirz Corporate forms the common visual identity for the national, cantonal and local activities. "Our requirement for the agency was to develop a jubilee brand that the 26 independent cantonal national churches would be happy to use, which is why it had to be customizable and yet have a uniform effect," says Thomas Flügge, Head of Communications at the Federation of Churches. Wirz Corporate has implemented these requirements with an appearance that is characterized by a striking and typical logo, which is played with and implemented with different forms, colors and contents. The individualizability is also an expression of the versatility and vitality of the Reformation.

Cash injection for Graubünden tourism

The Graubünden government plans to provide the tourism marketing organization Graubünden Ferien (GRF) with an extraordinary grant of 500,000 francs. The additional funds are to be used for 'product-oriented marketing efforts in Switzerland.«.

The perception of Graubünden as the No. 1 vacation region is to be strengthened through targeted, cross-destination communication, the government announced on Thursday. The aim is to maintain the number of overnight stays by Swiss guests in the short term and increase it in the medium term.

According to the government, it assumes that the regional tourist destination partners will also contribute half a million francs to market development in 2015/2016. The canton's contribution still has to be approved by the Grand Council. (SDA)

NZZ: Changes sought in the Board of Directors

According to the Handelszeitung, the "Friends of the NZZ" shareholder group is seeking changes to the Board of Directors of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ).

The shareholder group unites over 10 percent of the share capital. It is proposing to the Annual General Meeting on April 11 that a one-year term of office be introduced for members of the Board of Directors. To date, NZZ Board members must stand for re-election every 4 years in accordance with the Articles of Association.

According to the Handelszeitung, the NZZ Board of Directors rejects this proposal on the following grounds: The current model with the staggered four-year terms of office has the advantage "that it allows for regular renewal while maintaining consistency, which enables the Board of Directors to jointly develop a long-term view", the letter to shareholders states.

Futurecom creates new website for Angelus

The luxury watch brand Angelus has awakened from a 30-year slumber and is announcing its grand comeback at this year’s Baselworld 2015 with a new watch, the U10 Tourbillon Lumière. Just like the watch itself, the Parallax website was designed by Futurecom.

The result, for example, is a three-dimensional space in which the "U10" with its oversized and separate tourbillon floats and can be admired from all angles in a series of pictures. The daring play of colors, which runs through all the pages, represents this luminosity, which reflects the smoothly polished steel surface. And the gallery, in turn, combines the Art Deco heritage with the new high-tech zeitgeist of Angelus.
