Phone directories: Zip.ch wants to break monopoly

Zip.ch enters the online directory market as a new player. The offer is free for all users, private individuals as well as companies. Zip.ch goes online on Wednesday with the first version of its platform for PCs, tablets and smartphones (iOS and Android).

This is to be significantly developed in a short time and provide access to the entire rubric data, such as job title, which Swisscom Directories has collected from paying customers as part of its monopoly. Swisscom Directories sells this data at prohibitive prices to deter potential competitors from the market, writes Zip.ch in a statement. Zip.ch will soon take legal action against this grievance.

With its free strategy and user-friendly technology, Zip.ch intends to attack the market leader. The lucrative Swiss market is currently dominated by the Swisscom-Tamedia alliance with the Local.ch and Search.ch platforms. This monopoly does not meet the expectations of private individuals, companies and the self-employed, the statement continues. Those who want to sharpen their profile with additional information will be asked to pay. In the case of Swisscom Directories' fee-based category services, customers are forced to accept excessive prices, even though the user-friendliness does not offer the same quality and simplicity as the Google search engine, which is regarded as a worldwide reference.

Zip.ch aims to remedy this situation. A second version of Zip.ch will be available shortly. This will offer new functions: Individuals and companies will be able to easily create or edit their address data online. A heading can be selected free of charge, and web addresses or logos can be inserted. In addition, links to social networks and descriptions of other activities are also free. Zip.ch is owned by Zip.ch SA, Swiss public limited company based in Geneva and held by private investors. Zip.ch is the latest child of Alexandre de Senger, who founded Neo Advertising with Christian Vaglio-Giors in Geneva in 2003.

Inter-Punkt invites you to the graduation ceremony

For the graduation ceremony of the Swiss Construction School in Aarau, the Inter-Punkt agency in Suhr has created a mailing that stands out from the previous invitations.

The Swiss Construction School in Aarau, located in Unterentfelden, has been training construction specialists since 1895. Previously, a letter with a simple invitation, registration form and program was sent out for the annual graduation ceremony for graduates. This year, however, they wanted something new, something unique and decided to create an invitation that stood out from those of previous years.

IMG_0205-neu

The web and advertising agency Inter-Punkt created a direct mailing for this - with the aim of designing an invitation that is closely linked to the theme of the construction school. The result is an invitation that can be folded into a standing house by the recipient in just a few simple steps. The idea behind it is that the house, on which the invitation and the program are printed, can be put up as a reminder at work or at home - so the date will certainly not be forgotten. A registration form has been enclosed with the invitation, which the recipients can use to register for the event directly. It is also possible to register for the event online.

The new campaign for Local.ch arose from the insight that every search query is based on an acute need. In its implementation, Maxomedia takes this and shows people's states of mind based on their facial expressions and gestures. The respective need is unmistakably reflected in the various expressions. local.ch provides immediate resolution and forwards directly from the banner to the corresponding search query. The seven thematically and temporally structured subjects of the spring campaign are now in use throughout Switzerland. The visuals are shown on various online banners as well as on eBoards.

"The Circle" is the big winner of the 2015 Swiss Film Award

Stefan Haupt's film *Der Kreis*, about the gay rights organization of the same name in 1960s Zurich, was the big winner at this year's Swiss Film Awards in Geneva, taking home four awards.

The documentary film "Electroboy" by Marcel Gisler was able to enjoy two trophies. The success of "Der Kreis" at the big film gala in the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices is also a victory of experienced Swiss filmmakers over the newcomers. Alongside "Der Kreis," the debut film "Chrieg" by Simon Jaquemet entered the race for the 2015 Quartz as a co-favorite with five nominations - "Chrieg" had to settle for a single award ("Best Cinematography") in the end, however.

The big winner "Der Kreis" combines fictional and documentary elements and tells the love story of Röbi Rapp and Ernst Ostertag between their involvement in the gay organization "Der Kreis" and the confinement of 1960s Zurich. Rapp and Ostertag were the first homosexual couple to register their partnership. The two attended the award ceremony together with the film team. In his acceptance speech, director Stefan Haupt recalled that Switzerland was one of the first countries to decriminalize homosexuality during World War II. At the same time, the filmmaker called for setting an example in terms of humanity today as well. Other trophies were awarded to "The Circle", which has already won numerous prizes abroad, in the categories "Best Actor" (young actor Sven Schelker), "Best Screenplay (Stefan Haupt, Christian Felix, Ivan Madeo, Urs Frey) and "Best Supporting Actor" (Peter Jecklin).

Ivan Madeo was a concept copywriter and film supervisor for over ten years at various major agencies in Switzerland, Italy and Germany, including Y&R Group Switzerland, McCann-Erickson Milano, Draftfcb-Lowe Group Zurich, Euro RSCG Zurich and Publicis Communication Switzerland. Madeo has won over 70 advertising awards, most recently two Bronze Lions in Cannes in 2014 for the "Hide Yesterday" campaign for L'Oreal (agency: Publicis Zurich). For more than 20 years, Urs Frey was the owner and producer of TWIN Productions in Biel, which for a long time was one of the largest commissioned film production companies in Switzerland and owned one of the largest film studios in French-speaking Switzerland. He has produced over 1000 commissioned films, from large commercials to industrial/event/training films to small and fast commissioned reportages. Today, Ivan Madeo and Urs Frey, together with Stefan Eichenberger, run Contrast Film's two production companies based in Zurich and Bern, producing feature films and documentaries for cinema and television.

Even though co-favorite and first-timer "Chrieg" failed to score in the important categories; for today's up-and-coming filmmakers, the 2015 Film Award is nevertheless an important milestone, because a strikingly large number of young filmmakers and actors were nominated by the Film Academy. Which proves that Swiss film faces a promising future.

Timoteo the only woman to receive an award

The second winner alongside "Der Kreis" on Friday evening was "Electroboy" by Marcel Gisler. In his documentary, the director tells the rise and fall of former snowboarder, party organizer and advertiser Florian Burkhardt - and with it a tragic family story. In addition to the award for "Best Documentary Film," "Electroboy" also received the award for "Best
Montage" (Thomas Bachmann). As the only woman on the evening, Bernese actress Sabine Timoteo was awarded "Best Actress" for her role in "Driften". The drama by Karim Patwa had celebrated its Swiss premiere at the Solothurn Film Festival and received much critical praise.

"They translate the mundane into poetry".

The award gala took place for the second time in Geneva, the French-speaking Swiss metropolis hosts the most important Swiss film award ceremony in rotation with Zurich. As in the previous year in Zurich's Schiffbau, Maria Viktoria Haas from the Grisons led the evening with a somewhat well-behaved moderation. The 18th Swiss Film Awards were presented by important personalities of the local film industry such as Oscar winner Xavier Koller, Academy head and documentary filmmaker Christian Frei or last year's winner Sabine Boss. Federal Councillor Alain Berset was given a particularly honorable task: the Minister of Culture held the laudatory speech for honorary prize winner and directing legend Jean-Luc Godard. However, the 84-year-old had to stay away from the award ceremony for health reasons and was connected via video message. Godard translates "everyday things into poetry" and makes films imbued with "clever dilettantism, sad madness and cheerful pessimism," Berset said. "They are sometimes sociological, sometimes political. They are sentence music and sound grammar. These films are jazz." (SDA/pd)

Last but not least: Children's eyes see more

A beautiful street art campaign in London encourages viewers to see the world more through the eyes of children again.

The Museum of Childhood in east London displays things designed by and for children. The collection includes toys, games, clothes and everything to do with childhood. The museum not only organizes exhibitions on specific themes, but also various workshops for children.

The place also seems ideal for adults to immerse themselves in their own childhood once again. Seeing the world through the carefree, imaginative eyes of a child is also what the museum recommends in the current campaign by the AMV BBDO agency, which uses street art to embed the surroundings in a new context and bring them to life. Sometimes advertising simply makes the world a little more beautiful. (hae)

Less work for Fairness Commission

Last year, the Swiss Fair Trading Commission (SLK) handled 79 complaints and 9 appeals. Just under half of these were upheld, according to the annual report published on Tuesday.

Aggressive sales methods were - as in previous years - the main reason for complaints. The three chambers of the SLK had 12 fewer cases to judge than in the previous year. This development is encouraging, but not yet very meaningful, according to a statement by the commission. However, it shows that the SLK's work is apparently having an effect and that the industry has internalized the principles of fair communication. More than 40 percent of the complaints concerned aggressive sales methods. In second place came cases of gender discrimination (13 percent). More than once, men were also complained about as the gender discriminated against, SLK writes. Just under 10 percent of the cases concerned advertising for tobacco products and alcoholic beverages.

More than half of the complaints were based on two articles of the law. They concerned deception or conduct otherwise contrary to the principle of good faith (29 percent) and failure to comply with the star entry in the telephone directory (24 percent). For 11 percent, the cause was "incorrect or misleading information about themselves." (SDA)

Trio forges the gold for Manor

«Bijoux,» Manor's annual jewelry catalog, is a gem in its own right. Trio is responsible for the entire production process, from design to the photo shoot.

Each page of the elegant publication is designed individually: Cool pages alternate with vintage settings, sometimes the brilliant product takes center stage, sometimes a setting full of poetry entices you to dream. In short, the issue celebrates the feminine. Throughout the country, female Manor cardholders - and holders, of course - have just received the catalog. So that beauty and love already blossom in early spring.

We’ve been feeling its arrival gradually for a few days now, and next week it’s official: spring. Reason enough for SBB to celebrate the awakening from the gray winter with its «At Home on the Road» campaign.

"In love with spring" is the motto of the print subjects developed by Rod Kommunikation. The campaign is flanked by various measures implemented directly by SBB.
