Digital seniors - a heterogeneous customer segment

In early May, Pro Senectute published the study «Digital Seniors,» which contains representative data on Internet and mobile device usage among the 65+ generation. On Tuesday, the senior citizens’ organization presented a supplementary analysis—exclusively in *Werbewoche* as well.

The "Digital Seniors" study was published by Pro Senectute with the support of Swisscable and the Center for Gerontology at the University of Zurich. Pro Senectute and Werbewoche are now presenting the results of the additional analysis exclusively: seven clusters of online and offline users with information on their affinity for technology, use of devices and information behavior. Conclusion: senior citizens, a heterogeneous customer segment with a lot of untapped potential.

cluster1

(Cluster in detailed view here)

The typologies take into account education level, income and affinity for technology, describe the use of the internet and various electronic devices as well as information behavior and the influence of the digital world on the life situation of senior citizens. This is the first analysis of this scientific depth for Switzerland and for this growing target group. This is currently a group of around 1.4 million people in Switzerland.

Digitalization creates new opportunities for claims

The needs of senior citizens in the individual online and offline categories are very heterogeneous. Segment-specific marketing is required to cover these needs. Two examples out of seven: The recently retired academic "E. Techie" is not only fascinated by technology, he also solves problems himself. With his smartphone always in his pocket, he surfs the Internet every day. When making purchases, quality counts, which is why he researches on the Internet in advance. The retired, older couple "K.&T. Typical" surf the internet daily, but only use their cell phone sporadically and do not own a smartphone or tablet. They are representatives of the middle class, but like to indulge in a little luxury every now and then.

The clusters cover around 82 percent of the total of 1.4 million retirees (as at the end of 2014).

TBS & Partner launches website for Reha Clinic

By developing a new brand architecture and relaunching all media channels, TBS & Partner is giving the Reha Clinic Group a brand identity that appropriately reflects the group’s complexity and size.

According to a press release from the agency, the Reha Clinic Group has evolved in recent years into a pioneer in the fields of rehabilitation, prevention, sleep medicine, and occupational and social reintegration. The dynamic expansion of its services into an integrated care chain called for a reorganization of the brand portfolio. The new brand architecture is intended to demonstrate that Reha Clinic not only offers outstanding services in its core area of rehabilitation but also possesses in-depth expertise in the fields of prevention and occupational and social reintegration. To this end, the previous logo was updated and expanded into a logo family whose structure reflects the various business areas. The new brand architecture thus presents the corporate group as a multifaceted entity.

Relaunch of all media

The clear and well-organized structure of the organization required a reorganization of all service documentation, new templates for business documents and labeling, as well as a completely redesigned website. TBS & Partner produced a series of brochures covering inpatient services (Reha Clinic), outpatient services (Reha Center), and vocational and social reintegration (Reha First).
In addition, a completely redesigned website was launched. The entire group can now present itself on a single platform. The requirements for the website’s structure were correspondingly demanding. The transparent navigation structure ensures that visitors can experience the full diversity and scale of the group. The various portals tailored to specific target audiences enable quick access to the desired content. The website’s clean, schematically organized, and aesthetically appealing design underscores the character of a high-quality, interdisciplinary, and tightly networked clinic group. The website was built entirely using responsive design and is therefore also optimized for viewing on mobile devices.

Person in charge at RehaClinic: Judith Meier (CEO), Stephan Fischer (Strategic Controlling / Policy / Legal). Responsible at TBS & Partner: Michael Schädelin (Concept/Consulting), Beat Aeschlimann (Consulting), Eva Friedli and Ramun Knapp (Project Management), Claudio Caravina (Print Design), Christian Tobler (Web Design), Maja Kälin (Copywriting), Heini Fümm (Photography/Image Editing). Contact at Bitbee Solutions: Urban Kägi, Conny Estermann (Overall Responsibility, Project Management), Dave Avanthay, Riccardo Coroneo (Programming).

Etextera celebrates its 5th anniversary

Sascha and Ruth Hardegger-Wickli founded the copywriting agency Etextera five years ago. *Werbewoche* asked them what makes the agency successful and what direction it is heading in.

Etextera covers all types of texts in all sectors. The focus is on classic corporate publishing products and online texts. The client structure is particularly strong in the finance, consumer, health, service and technology sectors. However, the text agency not only offers text, but also project work - from concept to editing, translation, proofreading, graphics, printing and web design, the text agency offers everything. Sascha Hardegger, owner of Etextera, reveals what their recipe for success is and what the future should look like.

Sascha_Hardegger

Mr. Hardegger, congratulations on the 5th anniversary of Etextera. Are you now through the most difficult phase?
As a company in a highly competitive market, we are challenged every day to do our best for our customers. Resting on your laurels can be fatal for a company. The most difficult thing at the beginning was coping with the huge fluctuations in orders: there were times when we could have worked day and night, followed by weeks when things were less busy. After five years, we are lucky enough to have a large customer base that regularly places orders and thus ensures a certain "base turnover".

Looking back, what do you continue to focus on, what should change?
We will continue to rely on our two pillars of success in the future: On well-trained female professionals with whom we can guarantee high (text) quality. I believe that quality combined with social commitment is Etextera's recipe for success. This social commitment also obliges us to pay our editors fair hourly wages. Right at the beginning, we were often ridiculed as a "housewife agency". We often heard the argument - or the prejudice - that women with children cannot meet deadlines. Today, I am pleased to say: In the five years since Etextera has been around, we haven't missed a single deadline. On the contrary: thanks to our home-office philosophy, an editor is free to decide when she writes an article. This can sometimes be in the evening when the children are asleep. We sometimes receive texts at one or two o'clock in the morning. So it sometimes happens that a customer places an order in the afternoon and finds the text in their mailbox early the next morning. I would therefore like to thank our editors, some of whom have been working for us for five years and deliver a top performance.

Many companies do their copywriting in-house. Why do your customers outsource it?
Customers often realize that writing texts takes an enormous amount of time. The famous blank page that has to be filled with text. Of course it costs money to outsource copywriting jobs. But if I am honest as a client and charge for the hours I spend writing a mailing, for example, it is often cheaper to outsource. I then also know that the text has been written by professionals and is appropriate for the target group and channel. Small and medium-sized SMEs in particular do not have the financial resources to hire their own copywriter. And not to forget: Like a professional design, professional texts contribute to a positive company image. Imagine a fiduciary office that advertises quality and trust and at the same time posts faulty texts on its website.

Etextera offers more than just text. The agency also manages projects. Are these mainly customer and company magazines?
Also. Today, our customers want to have a single point of contact for all communication services. So it often happens that we take on the overall project management. Be it for a company brochure, a CI/CD manual, a website and much more. From the kick-off with the customer, briefing and coordination of the editor, graphic designer or web designer, translator, proofreader and printer to obtaining quotations and managing project timing. Here, too, we have built up a network of partners over the years that we can rely on completely.

Which projects that Etextera has accompanied from idea to implementation stand out for you?
We were asked to redesign the CI/CD for the Lenzburg-based company "Diartis" in collaboration with an advertising agency and then implement it across all communication channels - from the website to the company folder and customer magazine. Originally, Diartis only wanted to have all the texts revised, from the product sheets to the customer magazine and the website. In addition, we have accompanied two very extensive imprints from A to Z for the ETH Board. In other words, we prepared the texts according to the concept and coordinated the graphics, translation, proofreading and printing.

How does Etextera use the possibilities of the digital world to connect information and processes, work and people?
A major advantage of Etextera is our home office philosophy. This guarantees us absolute flexibility, on the other hand we have no infrastructure costs. However, this requires a regular exchange with our editors and customers via the various communication channels. Here we use the same means of communication as in "normal" offices. If you often talk to a new customer in person or on the phone at the beginning of a collaboration, this is often only done via email or platforms such as Dropbox for data exchange afterwards.

What is Etextera giving itself for its anniversary?
We are going out for a small dinner with the team. We will also be giving presents to our customers over the next few days. After all, we owe our success to our customers, some of whom have been loyal to us since the company was founded. I don't take this for granted.

Packaging for Lotus Biscoff range

Lotus Biscoff products are now available in new packaging. An updated logo, the dominant color red, and large images of the cookies are designed to ensure high brand recognition.

The redesign is part of the strategy to further expand the Lotus Biscoff brand nationally and internationally and to continue the sustainable growth course. Lotus already strengthened its own market position with last year's introduction of the new product name "Lotus Biscoff". The entire product line has now been redesigned in order to build on this success in the long term and to further strengthen Lotus Biscoff as the most popular coffee supplement in the retail sector. The product name "Biscoff" is made up of "biscuit" and "coffee" and is intended to underline the ideal taste combination of caramelized biscuits and roasted coffee.

Red dominates

The image of the Lotus cup with the sponge cake under the handle and the claim "Lotus goes with coffee" now has a place on the 250g retail packaging. The higher proportion of the color red in the new packaging design is intended to attract attention, is related to the familiar individual gastronomy packaging and thus strengthens the recognition value at the POS. Large cookie illustrations make it easier for customers to choose at the shelf. In addition to the popular Lotus Biscuits, the Lotus Biscoff spreads have also been given a new design. Here too, the clear colour coding (red for the creamy version and yellow for the crunchy version), the modernized logo, typographic simplifications to make it easier to read and the large cookie illustrations ensure a high recognition effect.

Clear word mark

The optimized red company logo focuses on the white "Lotus" lettering, which is also baked on the individual cookies. The logo dispenses with the previous stylized image of the lotus blossom and simply emphasizes the 80-year baking tradition of the family business from Belgium.

Changeover to the new packaging

"By revising our packaging, we are underlining our marketing objective as the most popular coffee supplement," says Martin Birrer, Country Manager Switzerland at Lotus. He adds: "All product data remains unchanged. This means that the new packaging will not cause any additional work for retailers. The changeover to the new design is expected to be completed in the summer."

Last but not least: "At home worldwide"

More and more people are choosing to book a stay in the home of someone they don’t know yet. Now, Airbnb, the global community marketplace for private accommodations, has launched its first TV and digital campaign, «Never a Stranger.».

The protagonist Ellie is at the center of the Germany-wide campaign. She writes a letter to her Airbnb hosts in which she describes her emotional journey and talks about her friends who were worried about her staying with strangers. In the letter, she talks about the unique experiences of her trip, the new friends she made and discovering new cultures. She always experiences a sense of belonging.

The ad ends with the promise: "You'll feel at home in over a million accommodations worldwide". And Airbnb has recently added Cuba to the "worldwide" list. The home-sharing portal is the first US company to take advantage of the rapprochement between America and Cuba: Airbnb offers more than 1,000 apartments, according to Handelszeitung already on the Caribbean island. The campaign can be seen digitally in Germany from today (Tuesday) and on TV from June 1, 2015. The agency responsible is TBWA/Chiat/Day from Los Angeles. Matter Gretener Lesch: Always close. Always there.

«Avia has the densest network of gas stations in Switzerland.» This is the message of a new branding campaign developed by Matter Gretener Lesch after winning a competitive pitch.

The basic strategic idea: Avia has so many gas stations that the next one is always just a few meters away. This was creatively implemented with an amazing dramatization: An Avia gas pump is located where it would actually not be possible. For example, on a car train or directly in front of the front door.

In addition to the new image campaign, Matter Gretener Lesch has also revamped Avia's POS presence. Thanks to the collaboration with the CGI specialists from Carioca Studio, the likeable Avia ambassador - a red bird - is now presented as lifelike as never before.

Last but not least: The real world becomes respectable

Thanks to Tens sunglasses with a built-in photo filter, the world looks like Instagram even without Instagram. Any questions? A wonderful «VHS infomercial» answers them.

Once again, something the world has been waiting for. Apparently it was, because the crowdfunding project launched by three friends on May 8, 2014 had already exceeded its funding target many times over within a single day (!). The Edinburgh-based start-up that was founded as a result - the idea came to the founders during a road trip to Scotland - set to work making the "Real Life Photo Filter" a reality. The glasses in the "Instant Summer Vision" collection not only make reality appear "reworked", but also (incidentally) offer suitable UV protection.

lens

One year later, the time has come: five models in different designs and colors are available. available. Although there was already more than enough general interest in buying the glasses before they were launched, Tens fueled the cult of the filter glasses once again with a two-and-a-half-minute "VHS Informercial" in the best 80s mode. Smartphones and filter apps become superfluous, virtuality now takes place in real life. And with so much joy, it doesn't really matter whether the filter glasses are really that revolutionary. We are familiar with similar phenomena on the ski slopes, for example, where the ski goggles make everything look like a ready-made photo with a nice contrast and yellow tint. And when you finally get out your smartphone to capture the scenery, you're met with a bland disillusionment. (hae)
