Velvet: poster and advertising clip for design & art

The Lucerne-based agency Velvet is designing the posters and a matching promotional video for the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Design & Art’s student exhibition. What stands out is that every poster looks different; each one is one-of-a-kind.

Look at! Those who study at the Lucerne School of Art & Design learn to look at the world with open eyes. The Werkschau is the annual diploma exhibition of the Lucerne School of Art & Design. For ten days at the end of June, all the final projects of the Bachelor's and Master's graduates are presented to the public at the Lucerne Exhibition Center.

Velvet develops the posters for this year's Werkschau Design & Kunst. The posters for the Werkschau can be seen in Lucerne starting today. The striking thing: Each poster looks different, each is unique. But how did the blobs on the posters come about? The film, which is used as an accompanying communication, shows possible answers in a humorous way. The advertising clip, which was developed in collaboration with students from the Camera Arts department of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts - Design & Art, will be shown in selected cinemas and eBoards. The show of works will take place from Saturday, June 20 to 28 at the Lucerne Exhibition Center. The exhibition of Master of Arts in Fine Arts from June 13 to 28 in Lachen & Pfäffikon SZ.

WS: ASAG says "Hola Seat".

The long-established Basel car dealership ASAG Auto-Service is strengthening the presence of its presence of its brand representative for Seat, the Volkswagen subsidiary from Spain. WS communicates the arrival of the Spaniards in the city-canton.

After the previous sales and service location in Pratteln BL, ASAG is now also rolling out the Iberians on Basel soil. The location is at ASAG Dreispitz in the trendy Basel district of the same name. On behalf of ASAG, WS Kommunikation graphically communicated the news of the Spaniards' arrival in the city canton. Strikingly designed posters in the formats F12 and F200 show the passage of a fiery Spaniard through the middle of a Basel bar. A tail in the national colors of the Iberians remains behind, symbolizing the sportiness of the car brand. The ASAG dealer campaign is intended to promote awareness of the Seat sales and service offer in the Basel region under the ASAG umbrella.

NZZ editors say what they stand for

Over the weekend, the NZZ launched a campaign focusing on the central NZZ values: liberalism, orientation and leadership. Journalists from the NZZ and the NZZ am Sonntag sum up what these values mean to them.

The NZZ brand stands for high-quality journalistic offerings and services, and has done so for 235 years. As part of the NZZ umbrella brand campaign, which kicked off over the weekend, those who have always shaped the traditional house speak for it: the journalists. Renowned Swiss photographer Tom Haller has portrayed the three-man editorial team, consisting of Eric Gujer, Felix E. Müller and Anita Zielina, as well as four other editors of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the NZZ am Sonntag. In the headlines, those portrayed succinctly formulate what NZZ journalism is all about.

They make independent decisions and thus enable readers to form critical judgments. Steven Neubauer, Managing Director of the NZZ and initiator of the umbrella brand campaign: "Under increasing economic pressure, the mixing of commerce and journalism is on the rise in many places. For us, this cannot be an option. Independent journalism is the core of the NZZ and has always been our raison d'être."

Ringier Axel Springer dismisses 22 journalists in Serbia

Ringier Axel Springer Media has issued dismissals against 22 journalists in Serbia. The dismissals were unavoidable, the media company countered criticism from the media union Syndicom on Tuesday.

Ringier Axel Springer Serbia has acted fairly and responsibly towards the affected employees and in accordance with applicable law, Ringier announced in response to a request from the news agency sda. A social plan will be applied. The local management had thoroughly examined all options beforehand, but the dismissals were unavoidable. Syndicom reacted with harsh criticism to the mass dismissal, accusing the media company of "ignoring any trade union and employee rights in a Wild West manner." At the same time, it called on Ringier to remember its own ethical standards and honor its social responsibility to its employees. (SDA)

Tourism professionals underestimate the value of hospitality

Tourism professionals in Central Switzerland rely on the beautiful landscape and local attractions to attract visitors and do not place as much emphasis on hospitality. This is shown by a study conducted by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Business.

The study revealed that it is important to guests how they are treated at their vacation destination, the university announced on Tuesday. 48 percent of guests surveyed ranked hospitality as one of the three most important factors they would consider when making a booking. Hospitality is less important to those who have to offer it. According to the university, only 26 percent of tourism professionals ranked it among the three most important factors. In their view, the landscape and local attractions are more important than hospitality. It is problematic if industry representatives underestimate how important hospitality is for guests, explained the authors of the study. Hospitality is a competitive factor. Guests who feel welcome are more satisfied, stay longer, spend more money, come back more often and recommend the place to others.

However, the study also showed that the treatment of guests is not as bad as is often portrayed. On a scale of 1 (completely dissatisfied) to 7 (completely satisfied), guests gave hospitality a score of 6.2. The tourism professionals themselves only gave the hospitality offered a self-critical score of 4.7. The locals' assessment of hospitality was 5.6. The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts surveyed 114 representatives of the tourism industry in Central Switzerland, 496 locals and 887 tourists, most of whom were from Switzerland. Obama's ex-spokesman becomes head of communications at McDonald's

Robert Gibbs, former press secretary to U.S. President Barack Obama, is joining fast-food giant McDonald's as chief communications officer. Gibbs will be responsible for global communications and government relations.

This was announced by the company on Tuesday. The 44-year-old is to help transform McDonald's into a "modern, progressive burger company". Gibbs worked as press spokesman in the White House at the beginning of Obama's term of office from 2009 to 2011. McDonald's is currently struggling with falling sales. Steve Easterbrook, who took over as CEO in the spring, is therefore trying to change the company's image and is focusing on healthier food. This should please Obama's wife Michelle, who is launching a nutrition campaign to combat childhood obesity in the USA. (SDA)

Weko examines takeover of Ricardo Group in greater depth

The Swiss Federal Competition Commission will examine the planned takeover of the Ricardo Group by Tamedia in greater detail. It will clarify whether a dominant position will be created in the areas of job and vehicle classified ads.

However, as Tamedia is not yet active in the core business of the Ricardo Group and in view of the intense competition in the markets for e-commerce as well as free classifieds, the Swiss media group continues to assume that the competition authority will give its approval, according to a statement. A decision is expected in the fall. Tamedia's acquisition of the Ricardo Group was announced in February (Werbewoche.ch reported). The media company had prevailed in the bidding war against Ringier, among others, and was awarded the contract by the South African previous owner Naspers. The Ricardo Group operates the online platforms Ricardo.ch and Ricardoshops.ch, the vehicle platform Autoricardo.ch and the classifieds platform Olx.ch.

According to the Weko opinion, there are indications that this acquisition will create or strengthen a dominant position in the area of job classified ads. In addition, there are indications that a collective market dominance of Tamedia/Ricardo and Ringier will arise in the area of vehicle classified ads in German-speaking Switzerland.

With Jobcloud, Tamedia operates several Internet portals in the area of job classified ads. Jobcloud includes Jobs.ch and Jobup.ch, among others. Tamedia and Ringier each hold 50 percent of the capital in Jobcloud. Ricardo is also active in this area with Olx.ch. Because Jobcloud already has a strong position today, there are indications, according to the Weko, that Jobcloud may already have a dominant market position. In addition, the proposed acquisition would lead to a concentration of two large providers of vehicle platforms, which together cover most of the market, the Commission writes. For these reasons, the Weko will now examine in more depth how the proposed takeover will affect competition in these areas. (pd/hae)

Last but not least: Anarchy in the wallet

The Sex Pistols are now available as a credit card. That may take some getting used to, but Virgin makes it possible.

They were once the epitome of social and consumer criticism, mockingly singing "Your future dream is a shopping scheme" on their 1977 single "Anarchy in the UK". Almost 40 years later, the mother of all punk bands is herself immortalized on the consumer symbol par excellence. And presumably paid well for the fun. Virgin is responsible for the campaign. Back then, it was the record company with which the band signed its first record deal. Today, in addition to music, the company also manages drinks, airplanes, mobile phones, books, hot air balloons, fitness studios, cabs, online casinos, hotels, clothes, limousines, stem cells, space flights - and credit cards (Virgin Money).

Unbenannt-12_56

"Time for consumers to put a little bit of rebellion in their pocket," Michele Green, head of Virgin cards, told The Guardian... "The Sex Pistols challenged convention and the established ways of thinking - just as we are doing today in our quest to shake up UK banking". All right. And anyway: Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon (formerly Johnny Rotten) seems to like the credit principle. So riet he once said: "Move to Italy,. They know about living in debt; they don't care ... Nice cars. Sharp suits. Great food. Stroll into work at 10. Lunch from 12 till three. Leave work at five. That's living!" We take it to heart - and pay with the Sex Pistols credit card. (hae)

Speed race in the Swiss fixed network continues

The speed race in the fixed-line market between Swisscom and the cable network operators continues. The cable network operator Quickline is the first provider in Switzerland to upgrade its network with the latest cable network technology, DOCSIS 3.1.

This will enable surfing speeds of 1 gigabit per second (Gbit/s) or more, Quickline announced in a press release on Tuesday. Until now, customers have received a peak speed of up to 200 megabits per second (Mbit/s). The networks of the 21 combined local cable network companies are to be equipped accordingly in the second half of 2015, as Quickline spokeswoman Jacqueline Blaser announced on request: "We will only communicate a precise roadmap and prices when the time comes." 400,000 households are connected to the Quickline network. By comparison, the number one cable network operator, UPC Cablecom, currently offers a maximum speed of 250 Mbit/s nationwide. In the Bern region it is up to 500 Mbit/s. Cablecom is testing Docsis 3.1 internally, said spokesman Marc Maurer. The new technology should be introduced within the next two years. At Swisscom, the top speed is 1 Gbit/s. However, this is only available on the fiber optic network. The maximum speed on the copper network is currently 100 Mbit/s. However, Swisscom is currently testing the new G.fast technology (i.e. dji-dot-fast), which enables maximum speeds of up to 500 Mbit/s on the copper line. The first customers are to be connected this year. (SDA)
