Corpmedia launches its own edutainment video blog

Corpmedia is launching its own video blog called Corpcast. On this channel, Timo Wäschle, owner and managing director of the Zurich-based agency, shares insights into the world of video communication through short videos and offers tips and tricks on visual storytelling.

Companies or interested private individuals can use the Youtube-channel, the Facebook page link or Corpmedia on Twitter and receive entertaining specialist knowledge on a silver platter every two weeks.

The deliberately black-and-white, three- to four-minute episodes are reminiscent of the cult news programs from the 1980s. Skillful animations, moderation in the broadest "Züridütsch" and a pinch of humor are intended to make the spots as informative as they are entertaining. Selected experts and guests are also regularly invited to give talks. As the success of a moving image campaign depends not only on the content and visuals but also on the sound, the storytelling agency Corpmedia has entered into a partnership with the music production company Department of Noise, which is responsible for the sound design. Nine episodes have already been filmed and more are in production.

Lions Health: Four Lions for Swiss agencies

The first awards were presented at the «Lions Health 2015» Awards in Cannes. Saatchi & Saatchi Geneva and FCB Zurich are celebrating their Health Lions.

The competition received a total of 1,862 entries, 24 of which came from Switzerland (Werbewoche.ch reported). The winners were announced on Friday. Two Swiss agencies can be found on the list of award winners. Saatchi & Saatchi Geneva secured two silver lions with its internationally acclaimed campaign for the Austrian magazine Vangardist. A special edition with a print run of 3,000 copies was printed with blood from HIV-positive people in order to address and break down prejudices and fear of contact. In the "Health And Wellness" category, the campaign was awarded double silver (Print/Promo & Activation) and bronze (PR).

"Speeding formats do not belong in the program".

Former SRF editor-in-chief Ueli Haldimann believes the SRG is facing the worst crisis in its history and, in an interview with the NZZ am Sonntag, holds it partly responsible.

Haldimann believes that one of the three reasons for the narrow result of the RTVG initiative - in addition to a polemical counter-campaign and the recent negative attitude of private publishers - is a lack of perceived public service among the population. Swiss television, for example, has cut and reduced cultural formats, launched expensive and worn-out casting shows, increasingly broadcast programs glorifying extreme sports and introduced "speeding formats" such as "Tacho" or "Top Gear". According to Haldimann, this kind of thing does not belong in the programming of a channel financed by licence fees and the audience notices this.

The former editor-in-chief is also concerned about the increasing threat to the independence of the electronic media. In Switzerland - in contrast to Germany and Austria - there had previously been a consensus that politicians should not interfere with program makers. What is happening now is a "total breach of the dam", as political parties are publicly announcing which programs should be deleted and which should be rebroadcast. SRG should stand alongside politics and report critically on it, but now it has become a "plaything of daily politics".

Publishers' proposal is "nonsensical"

Haldimann also criticizes the fact that "the beneficiaries of SRG" - the film and music industry, the cultural sector and sports associations - did not have their say in the referendum campaign.

Haldimann describes the publishers' suggestion that SRF should do without advertising spots because CHF 1.2 billion in fees is sufficient as "nonsensical", although he has "great understanding for the publishers' problems". "They probably think that advertisers will once again place full-page advertisements in newspapers or spots on regional TV stations. But that's a mistake." Instead, the Swiss advertising windows of German private broadcasters would benefit, with 300 million francs of advertising money flowing abroad without any added value in Switzerland. "Do publishers really want that?" asks Haldimann. (hae/NZZaS)

Last but not least: Creative fast lane

Overtaking a truck is no walk in the park. Unless, that is, you happen to come across one of the «Safety Trucks» that Leo Burnett pulled out of thin air for Samsung.

Anyone who wants to overtake large trucks on two-lane, unclear country roads needs good nerves of steel and a car with strong acceleration. Or simply a lot of luck. Because if you lose your overview, the overtaking maneuver becomes a lottery. With stakes that are far too high. Argentine drivers who have to overtake a Samsung truck, on the other hand, can count themselves lucky. Not that the trucks in the service of the South Korean electronics giant are inherently easier to leave behind. But when an agency like Leo Burnett is involved, bulky trucks suddenly become "safety trucks. Because if it says Samsung on it, it's usually Samsung in it. And lately, it's Samsung, too. The huge screens on the back show the driver behind if the opportunity to overtake is good.

A nice service that Samsung offers. That should also catch on in Germany. And if there is little oncoming traffic, the driver could switch to Roger Federer. (hae)

BCP 2015: Successful Swiss contributions

Successful Swiss entries at the Best of Corporate Publishing Award 2015: In addition to numerous silver awards, Namics, Primafila, Corpmedia, Ergon Informatik and Studio Marcus Kraft win gold.

Having already set a record for submissions with 729 publications, this year's BCP Best of Corporate Publishing breaks another record: More than 720 guests accepted the invitation of Forum Corporate Publishing (FCP) to the Alte Kongresshalle in Munich on Thursday. For the 13th time, the Forum and its media partners - including Werbewoche - hosted the BCP Congress and the subsequent BCP Corporate Publishers' Night.

In the evening, the coveted BCP Awards were presented in front of around 680 guests. Journalist Hajo Schumacher, who also moderated the congress during the day, guided through the festive award ceremony in the Old Congress Hall. In the end, 50 award winners - including numerous Swiss entries - in 28 categories and four times as a special award were able to enjoy the shining BCP cubes and golden certificates.

At this year's awards ceremony, four publications that are Gold Award winners for the third time were also honored with induction into the Hall of Fame. In the future, they will be permanently presented in the BCP Chronicle as outstanding examples of continuous quality in corporate publishing.

Migros and Namics gild the annual report

Gold for Corpmedia and BABS

The Zurich agency Corpmedia wins gold in the category "Digital Media - Video / Explainer Film" with the awareness film "Are you safe?" for the Federal Office for Civil Protection (FOCP). The Alertswiss film is intended to help sensitize the population to the issue of individual emergency preparedness. It shows that an effective contribution to improving security can be achieved with simple measures and little effort. The film is an important element for the new channels for informing the population about disasters and emergencies, which the FOCP has been operating since February under the name Alertswiss. "The idea of implementing the serious topic in a playful, light way by means of a 3D animation with a tinker sheet look helped us win the pitch," says Corpmedia CEO Timo Wäschle.

Gold for "The Engineer is King" IT promotion brochure

"The Engineer Is King" (PDF version) was created by Ergon Informatik as part of its 30th anniversary and reflects the company's long-standing commitment to promoting young IT talent. The brochure, in which ETH professors and CEOs/CIOs of Swiss companies also have their say, is intended to present the fascinating job profile of computer science in a new, unconventional way and to get young people interested in computer science and in studying computer science, and won gold in the category "Speicals and Annuals - Corporate Magazine Service/Trade" at the BCP 2015. It also aims to make the Swiss public aware of how relevant computer science is for the business location and that computer engineers are part of the great tradition of Swiss engineering.

Bildschirmfoto-2015-06-24-um-16.46.00

The entire brochure celebrates the computer engineer - just as it is successfully done in Silicon Valley, but with a pinch of humor and by putting the creativity and versatility of this profession in the foreground. A picture book in which each double-page spread is new, surprising and idiosyncratic. Held together by typographic elements and short introductory texts per section. The mix of infographics and illustrations is intended to be educational and entertaining at the same time, as well as emotionally appealing. The jury appreciated that the brochure not only "whets the appetite for the job of a computer engineer", but also "shows how creative and exciting so-called MINT professions can be, i.e. mathematics, computer science, natural science and technology". The brochure was designed by Micha Treuthardt and Cornelia Gann, Treuthardt Gann, Zurich and printed by Neidhart + Schön, Zurich.

Le Courrier cancels Saturday edition

The Geneva daily newspaper Le Courrier needs to cut costs and will therefore no longer be published on Saturdays starting in August. The paper hopes this move will help it reduce its structural deficit. The funds saved will be used to expand its online presence.

As the editorial team wrote in an editorial on Saturday, difficult decisions had to be made in a difficult economic environment. The discontinuation of the Saturday edition should put the newspaper back on a green path. The Saturday cultural magazine will be integrated into the Friday edition. If this measure had not been taken, the left-leaning daily newspaper would have been at risk. Dispensing with the Saturday edition in the summer is expected to bring savings of CHF 40,000 in 2015 and CHF 132,000 in 2016. Employees will also take a week's unpaid leave. In 2014, the newspaper made a loss of 477,000 francs. Thanks to donations, this was reduced to a loss of 17,500 francs. As donations are flowing more sparingly in the current year, Le Courrier is expecting a deficit of 57,000 francs. (SDA)

Payment app instead of cash

Your colleague ordered pizza and laid out the money? You still get money from several friends for a parting gift? With the UBS Paymit app, you can send and request small amounts via smartphone. Notch Interactive was responsible for the campaign for the app.

Cash payments between friends could soon be a thing of the past. Since last week, the new payment app "Paymit" has been available. Paymit is a combination of the words "payment" and "transmit", and the system was developed by UBS in collaboration with SIX and ZKB. The app makes it possible to pay amounts directly via smartphone. So if your friend gets another three francs, or your neighbor twenty - the debt is settled in no time at all, even without cash.

And this is how it works: Anyone who has downloaded the app only needs a Swiss cell phone number, a Swiss bank account and a credit or prepaid card. And small amounts of money can be transferred and requested conveniently and securely - provided the recipient also has the app installed. Whether the user has his account with UBS, ZKB or another bank is irrelevant. Paymit meets the highest security standards. As with card transactions a PIN code protects the user from misuse.

"With Paymit, we are creating the first Switzerland-wide instant payment method from bank account to bank account; ideal for payments to family, friends and for purchases on auction platforms," says Raoul Kriesi, Head of Card Banking & ATM at Zürcher Kantonalbank.

Campaign with application tips

Paymit is aimed at everyone living in Switzerland, but especially at early adopters, i.e. those people who always try out and use the latest technological achievements. The app is particularly useful when used by many members of a circle of friends. Exchanging money then becomes very easy: at a pizza dinner, at the cinema, at lunch with work colleagues or on a joint outing. The campaign promoting the new app also focuses on such everyday situations. It was conceived and implemented by the Zurich agency Notch Interactive. The centerpiece of the campaign is the mobile-optimized microsite Ubs.com/paymitwhich explains the use and benefits of the app. Incentives create an additional incentive to download the app. A product video illustrates the benefits of the app with key usage situations. In addition, there are special online banners, branding days and print ads, as well as a Facebook campaign with performance, app install and video ads. The campaign launched on June 8.

Werbewoche spoke with Daniel Fischer, Head of Marketing Switzerland at UBS, and Jeff Gerber, CD at Notch Interactive and responsible for the campaign, about the new payment app Paymit.

WW: Jeff Gerber, how does the campaign work?
Jeff Gerber: At the above-the-line level, we work with the rational benefits of the app: free. For everyone. Even without a UBS account. On a second level, which is characterized by performance advertising, we list many use cases that are relevant for the various audiences we have defined. For example, for a visit to the cinema or a meal together in a restaurant.

Daniel Fischer, what does UBS expect from the launch of the app?
Daniel Fischer:
UBS Paymit is our answer to the new customer need to make payments anytime, anywhere, easily and conveniently. We hope to see a high number of continuous users of the app.

And why the cooperation with ZKB and SIX?
Daniel Fischer:
With UBS Paymit, we want to offer a P2P payment app in Switzerland that is based on a uniform banking standard. This means that UBS Paymit can be used by everyone living in Switzerland, which is a prerequisite for high penetration. It was therefore very obvious to develop the underlying Paymit system together with other strong partners. These were SIX and the Zürcher Kantonalbank.

Paymit is an open payment system and therefore also open to other partners. Wouldn't it also be conceivable to do all your banking via smartphone, Mr. Fischer?
Daniel Fischer:
Many of our customers already use our e-banking and, in particular, our mobile banking app to conduct the majority of their banking transactions. However, for certain aspects of the banking relationship, for example complex banking transactions such as mortgages or retirement planning, personal contact with a customer advisor will still be important and desired by the customer. For us, the focus is on a consistent "multi-channel approach" to our customers, depending on the customer's needs and the intensity of the advice provided for the product. This can mean, for example, that the e-channel is also used in the investment area to proactively make investment proposals to the client, which can then be implemented by him or together with the client advisor, as is possible with our UBS Advice investment solution.

When, Mr. Fischer, can you pay with your cell phone in the store and at the market stall?
Daniel Fischer:
Deployment in the retail sector is in preparation. The aim is to work together with retailers to create widespread acceptance of Paymit as a means of payment as quickly as possible.

How did the agency experience working with UBS, Mr. Gerber?
Jeff Gerber:
The UBS project team is very professional and works consistently in a goal-oriented manner. We were able to work together in a very modern and flexible way - in other words, teamwork instead of elaborate presentations.

IGEM-MV with guest presentation Comscore on measuring cross-media use

At the 2015 general meeting, IGEM elected Axel Beckmann to the board to succeed Cosima Giannachi. In the guest presentation that followed, Comscore introduced a global model for measuring cross-media usage, developed in collaboration with Kantar Media.

As usual, the statutory business of the General Meeting was completed quickly. All motions of the Board were approved unanimously. Axel Beckmann, CEO of Mediacom and since the beginning of 2014 also of Group M in Switzerland, was elected as successor to Cosima Giannachi.

Cross-media use

Following the statutory business, Stuart Wilkinson, Head of Industry Relations EMEA, Comscore presented the Comscore and Kantar Media model. It envisages a set of integrated solutions for campaign measurement. The idea is to combine data from the TV panel with online usage data. Online data is based on a method that combines cookies and tags to measure online usage at the person level. Individual solutions are sought in each market based on local conditions. Comscore and Kantar Media distinguish five phases in the development. In Switzerland, according to Wilkinson, phase two is underway, in which data from desktop devices is combined with data from mobile devices.

Stuart2
Stuart Wilkinson

In the fifth phase, total use will then be formed from online and TV. This collaboration already works technically. However, the formation of a mobile panel is extremely complex. In addition, there is the fact that TV and online are two completely different worlds with very different granularities that have to be brought together. While TV involves comparatively few channels whose usage is measured very deeply, online there are many more "channels" (or sites) that are measured less deeply.

In Europe, implementation is furthest advanced in Spain, the Netherlands, Norway and Finland. However, no European country has yet reached the point where integrated data from TV and online (total view) is available. This is because questions such as "Who has data sovereignty?" or "Who merges?" arise in the detailed work. It is also open which is the currency of the future. So there is still a long way to go. But Wilkinson sees good conditions for Switzerland.

Publicis: UBS shortens credit applications for SMEs

A new campaign by Publicis highlights that UBS has simplified and expedited the loan application process for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Abbreviated: loan applications for SMEs. Because many SMEs need quick cash to finance capital goods or pre-investments, UBS is speeding up the application process for overdraft facilities. Loans of up to CHF 300'000 can now be applied for online, unbureaucratically and easily in just a few minutes. The decision is also made quickly. Publicis has designed a campaign that visualizes these advantages in a typographical, playful way. The headlines are abbreviations and even the letter of the mailing contains only a few words. A mix of various offline and online measures was implemented, which will be used in June and in a second wave in August.

Audiovisual content at Saxoprint

The online printing company Saxoprint brings its products and services to life through video. In stages, customers are provided with video tutorials, product and ordering process videos, and promotional spots.

Audiovisual media are becoming increasingly important in communicating business models and brand messages, as they manage to engage consumers more than images and text can. Nevertheless, Saxoprint is breaking new ground for the industry with its decision to underpin its online print shop processes and products with video footage, according to a statement. In the coming months, an interactive ordering experience will be created on the Saxoprint.ch website thanks to a variety of video content.
Under the creative direction of a Leipzig-based media production agency, a comprehensive moving image concept was developed based on user needs. For targeted placement at relevant points in the ordering process on saxoprint.ch, they produced product information, explanatory videos and commercials in close cooperation with Saxoprint management.

Bildschirmfoto-2015-06-21-um-14.30.19

Representation of the ordering process

As an introduction to the "online print shop" business model, explanatory video clips will be available to customers from mid-July at the relevant intermediate steps in the ordering process for their print products. Animated screens will be used to illustrate the necessary steps from configuration, through selection of payment and delivery methods, to data upload. A summary clip of the entire ordering process is also prominently embedded on the start page, making it easier for new customers in particular to get started on the online portal.
"With the help of the video material, we have the opportunity to lower the inhibition threshold of potential customers who have not yet come into contact with processing print orders via the Internet. They answer questions even before they arise. In addition, our competent service staff are of course available as usual as personal contacts," emphasizes Daniel Ackermann, Managing Director of Saxoprint.
