Five more Swiss shortlist places

In the «Radio,» «Glass,» and «Design» categories, FCB Zurich, M&C Saatchi, Publicis, and Leo Burnett are among the finalists competing for the coveted Lions.

In the "Radio" category, FCB Zurich's campaign for hearing aid and hearing protection manufacturer Neuroth has every chance of bringing home further awards from Cannes. Nominated are the two spots "Boss" and "Wife", the spot "Sergeant" has already won bronze at the Lions Health 2015 competition (Werbewoche.ch reported).

Also in the "Radio" category, Geneva-based agency M&C Saatchi secured a shortlist spot. For the aid organization of the Protestant Church EPER (German: HEKS), the spot addresses the issue that refugees are often highly qualified, but cannot apply their skills in their new country.

Publicis Zurich has secured a final place in the "Glass" category. The Campaign for the Women's Center Zurich is campaigning for more pay equity. The Lions in the "Glass Lions" category were awarded for the first time in 2015. The award is given to campaigns that combat gender discrimination.

And last, but not least, Leo Burnett Switzerland once again finds itself on the list of finalists. The Annual report as cheese paper convinced the jury in the "Design" category. (hae)

Déformation professionelle - Professional diseases in advertising and marketing

Axel Eckstein, Executive Creative Director at Leo Burnett Switzerland, writes in Werbewoche about pathology in advertising and marketing. In the tenth episode: laughter jam (risum interrupta).

Description

A laugh jam occurs when a humorous element of a presentation (e.g., punch line of a commercial) triggers the affective mouth movements typical of laughter, but after a certain time delay, these are occupied by feelings of doubt or gloom from the cerebral cortex.

Causes

So far, two causes of laughter congestion are known. In the most common cases, those affected by laugh jams assume that other people do not laugh at the same things as they do. In the remaining cases, they assume that an orally transmitted punch line cannot be reproduced in another form of presentation (usually filming).

Diagnosis

For diagnosis, the patient is presented with a calibrated film script: someone comes up with all sorts of ideas to avoid being released from prison because there is no nice furniture waiting at home. If the patient smiles, but then makes statements such as "Prisons are for bad people and therefore not funny," laughing jam has been established.

Prevention

One proven way to avoid laughter jams is to trust your own feelings. Preventive action also comes from confronting what you voluntarily share. This includes video clips shared online of parents exposing their own children, or those with dogs jumping against glass doors, but also nude selfies of celebrities.

Cannes Lions: Swiss Shortlists

The shortlists for the 2015 Cannes Lions have been announced in nine categories. Five Swiss agencies have a chance to win one or more Stainless Steel Lions.

Unsurprisingly, Saatchi & Saatchi Geneva has secured no less than five shortlist spots with its campaign "The HIV+ Issue" for the Austrian magazine Vangardist. The special issue printed from HIV-positive blood has already been awarded two Silver Lions and one Bronze Lion at Lions Health 2015 (Werbewoche.ch reported) and has a good chance of winning further awards in Cannes.

The Zurich agency Freundliche Grüsse finds itself in the "PR" category: The sympathetic action, in which adult men could apply to be "run-in kids" for a Champions League match of the FCZ ladies, apparently also appealed to the jury.

begleitmann

Havas secured three shortlists, once in the "Oudoor" category for the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and twice in the "Press" category for the magazine Schweizer Monat.

Complaint against RTVG adoption referred to Zurich government

The Federal Supreme Court has not accepted an appeal by two Zurich residents against the referendum on the amendment to the Radio and Television Act (RTVA).

The appeal will be referred to the Zurich cantonal government, which is responsible for this in the first instance. This means that the third cantonal government will have to deal with the vote on June 14. Appeals have also been lodged in the cantons of Basel-Land and Lucerne. The new Radio and Television Act was adopted with only 3174 more yes votes than no votes. This is one of the narrowest voting results at federal level. (SDA)

Leo Burnett Switzerland: Young people take politics into their own hands

The annual Youth Session will take place again from August 27 to 30, 2015. Leo Burnett Switzerland is once again pulling the strings for the event.

This year's subjects show Ueli Maurer, Doris Leuthard and Alain Berset as hand puppets on the hands of young people. This illustrates quite strikingly that the proposals developed by the participants are heard right up to the highest circles of the Federal Parliament. During the Youth Session, young people spend four days in the Federal Parliament working on proposals for the politics of the future.

662 marketing professionals awarded

On Saturday, June 20, 2015, the federal certificates of marketing specialists were presented at the KKL Lucerne. 662 young talents could take over their brevet, which distinguishes them as competent marketing specialists.

More than 1,300 people from all over Switzerland and neighboring countries took part in the national diploma ceremony for the new marketing specialists with a federal certificate last Saturday in the KKL Lucerne. A total of 820 candidates took the challenging exam; 80.7 percent of them succeeded. The overall grade point average for 2015 was 4.37.

New competencies, new knowledge, new security

Andreas Balazs, president of the examination board, congratulated the newly graduated marketing specialists in his speech: "This training forms the foundation for your long-term success. You now have proven professional skills, which you will continue to develop. By enriching your knowledge with experience, creativity, inventiveness and also intuition, you will succeed in implementing your tasks successfully and profitably for your clients. " For this, Balazs wished "a lot of energy, great ideas, an ounce of luck and, above all, a lot of fun while performing your future marketing tasks."

Swiss Marketing President Uwe Tännler, who was also present, congratulated the successful graduates and pointed out that membership of Swiss Marketing secures the profession. As one of the many examples, he cited the European Certificate, which makes Swiss Marketing degrees comparable across Europe and thus offers an additional opportunity for success.

Excellence honored

Corinne Städeli was honored with the Swiss Marketing Award 2015, the "Oscar" of Swiss marketing.Other top performers in the written subjects were: Caroline Tracey Meier (Marketing Concept); Gina Grossenbacher (Integrated Communication); Andrea Fischer (Sales & Distribution); Linda Finelli (Market Research) and Andrea Rogenmoser (Accounting/Controlling). In the oral subjects, the following were awarded: Tamara Springer (Marketing Concept); Fabiana Würgler (Integrated Communication) and Bruno Berner (Presentation and Communication Techniques).

Inspiring show acts

The graduation ceremony of the Marketing Professionals 2015, which was once again charmingly hosted by Melanie Winiger, featured a whole series of well-known show acts. Among them were the breakdancers of the RockKidzCrew, the quick-change artist Gögi and the bands Baba Shrimps and Take This. All the performers created a worthy festive setting for the main protagonists of the evening: the successful graduates of the marketing specialists exam, who are now ready for further career steps with their federal certificates. Ready for the world of business, where these proven connoisseurs and experts will make a difference.

New video blog "Dominik Imseng envies".

Zurich journalist and advertiser Dominik Imseng is launching a new video blog: "Dominik Imseng envies". This one is themed "Deconstructing excellence": What do you have to do to become really good at something - enviably good?

For the first two issues, Imseng interviewed Constantin Seibt, journalist at the Zurich-based "Tages-Anzeiger" and author of the books "Deadline: How to Write Better" and "The Swissair Process," as well as Mikael Krogerus and Roman Tschäppeler, authors of the international bestsellers "50 Success Models," "The World Explained in Three Strokes," "Question Book" and "The Test Book.

Last but not least: Living and advertising in South Africa

In South Africa, five pedestrians die every night on their way home from the bar. Once again, the creative industry is helping to save lives.

South Africa's poorly lit townships are a dangerous place for pedestrians at night. They are overlooked and hit by drivers. Edward Snell, one of South Africa's largest wine and spirits retailers, no longer wanted to see its best customers - evening bar and restaurant visitors - exposed to unnecessary danger and commissioned the Y&R agency to find a solution. The result: the "Reflector Protector". Useful, simple and right at the heart of the target group. In any case, beer mats always invite close scrutiny during social gatherings.

Bildschirmfoto-2015-06-22-um-20.10.44
Bildschirmfoto-2015-06-22-um-20.17.36

The South African in question has a flip side that saves lives. The removable reflector can be stuck onto clothing, reducing the risk of accidents by 85 percent. The advertising material ends up exactly where it is needed. And, incidentally, the customer's image is polished to a high gloss. If everyone is happy (and alive...) at the end of the day, you can say: campaign a success. (hae)

Media budget 2014: One billion francs more within ten years

In 2014, Switzerland as a whole spent 10.4 billion francs on media. This includes spending on newspapers and magazines, as well as their digital offerings; spending on books, movies, radio, television, electronic devices, and IT and telecommunications.

Compared to the previous year, the media budget fell by 1.1%. Sales of print subscriptions were almost stable in 2014. This was announced by the Swiss Media Association on Monday.

The press, books, cinema, radio, TV, consumer electronics and IT & telecom markets in Switzerland generated around CHF 13.6 billion in 2014. This is 0.9% less than in the previous year. A good three quarters of the money comes from media users, with the rest coming from advertising. The Swiss population and businesses spent around CHF 10.4 billion on media in 2014, 1.1% less than in the previous year. The ten-year comparison shows an overall increase in media expenditure. The growth driver of digitalization is shaping the electronic markets. Established media such as the press are maintaining their importance. Expenditure on the subscription press remained roughly the same.

Newspapers and magazines are being bought less and less at newsstands and are maintaining their reach thanks to digital growth. Half of print revenues still come from advertising. The rising revenue from radio/TV reception fees is approaching the declining total print revenue. TV revenue increased thanks to the switch-off of analog connections and bundled offers. Mobile Internet usage, which is already high, is increasing, while the reach of videos on video portals has also risen.

In a ten-year comparison, media expenditure rose by CHF 1.02 billion or 10.8%; inflation rose by 3.7% in the same period. The trend indicates a continuing willingness to spend on media in Switzerland. Spending on radio and television grew in all areas. In consumer electronics, software sales on physical media are still dominant. In the fast-growing IT & Telecom segment, spending on broadband connections, smartphones, tablets and apps replaced spending on PC hardware. Books increased their sales volume, while spending on cinema admissions remained almost constant.
