On reaching retirement age, Martin Meyer (1951) will hand over the reins of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung's feature section to publicist and philosopher René Scheu at the turn of 2016. Martin Meyer will remain closely associated with the NZZ - as an author, but also as head of the discussion forum NZZ-Podium, which he has built up since 2007 and which has attracted a great deal of attention from the public.
Meyer's successor René Scheu (1974) completed his doctorate in contemporary philosophy at the University of Zurich. He has been publisher and editor-in-chief of Schweizer Monatshefte since 2007 and was responsible for its successful relaunch under the title Schweizer Monat in 2011. Since 2013, he has also been following current affairs as a columnist for NZZ am Sonntag. Scheu has published and translated various books in the fields of media policy, philosophical anthropology and psychoanalysis.
Eric Gujer, Editor-in-Chief of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung: "In René Scheu, we have been able to recruit a trenchant writer with entrepreneurial esprit and in-depth knowledge of society and culture to head up the features section. He is the right person to continue the tradition of the political feuilleton founded by Martin Meyer."
Luzi Bernet becomes Head of Zurich
On August 1, 2015, Luzi Bernet will take over from Thomas Ribi as Head of the Zurich section. He will also remain Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. Luzi Bernet (1963) has been working for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung as Head of News and member of the Editorial Board since 2010. In 2002, he was part of the founding team of NZZ am Sonntag, where he was appointed Head of the Switzerland section in 2004 and Deputy Editor-in-Chief in 2006. Prior to that, he was editor-in-chief of the Zürichsee-Zeitung and Brussels-based European correspondent for various Swiss regional newspapers.
Thomas Ribi (1965), who has already made a name for himself in the feature section with articles on antiquity in the past, is moving to the feature section at his own request. Ribi has been an editor at the Neue Zürcher Zeitung since 1995. From 2000 to 2004, he was responsible for cantonal politics in the Zurich and region section, after which he spent two years writing articles on cultural policy and other topics in the Zurich city section. In 2006, he took over as head of the Zurich section.

Last but not least: The customer is queen
The Queen visited Frankfurt on Thursday. To get from the airport to downtown, she rented a stylish sports car from Sixt.

At least that's how Sixt would like it. But since the Queen is more befitting of her status, Jung von Matt helped out a little for the car rental company and shot a commercial with a Queen double shortly before the royal state visit to Frankfurt. Although she's not quite the spitting image of the real Queen, the fake Queen caused quite a stir at the airport. (sis)
The Weko allows the media group to take over Tutti.ch and Car4you.ch. Further Weko decisions on acquisitions and license agreements by Tamedia are already pending in the fall.

June 25, 2015
The media company Tamedia can use the advertising platforms Tutti.ch and Car4you.ch in its entirety. The Swiss Federal Competition Commission (Comco) considers the takeover to be unobjectionable. This was confirmed by Weko Deputy Director Patrik Ducrey to SDA on Wednesday.
Further decisions in the fall
Until now, Tamedia and the Norwegian Schibsted Media Group held the platforms jointly - Tamedia is taking over the 50 percent stake held by the Norwegian group (Werbewoche.ch reported). The acquisition will be completed at the beginning of July.
Independently of this decision, the Weko is currently examining the announced acquisition of the Ricardo Group by Tamedia and the planned license agreement between JobCloud and JobScout24 in more detail. These decisions are expected in the fall of 2015. (SDA)
Personnel changes at Mediapulse
As part of the structural and process reforms within the Mediapulse Group, organizational and personnel adjustments are now being implemented. Three employees in management positions are leaving the company.

June 25, 2015
In the fall of 2014, the Mediapulse Group announced the simplification of its processes and structures. In the meantime, concrete reform measures have been implemented and launched.
Organization into four divisions
The business activities of Publica Data were integrated into Mediapulse in the fall. Following this merger, four divisions form the new organizational structure. In addition to Research & Development, Sales and Technology, which already report to the Executive Board, Production is now also managed directly by the Executive Board. Technology and Engineering & Support will now be combined in the IT & Engineering division.
Personnel changes
The internal reorganization has resulted in personnel changes. The previous Head of Sales & Marketing, Gregor Eschle, and Sabine Schwab, Head of Management Service, will leave the company at the end of the year. Until they leave, both will work on the design and implementation of the new organization.
The Sales department, which has been realigned in terms of content, will be re-staffed. The tasks of the Management Service will be taken over by the GL assistance.
At the end of August, Nico Gurtner, former Head of Communications, will leave the company at his own request. Christopher Wehrli will be the new Head of Communications. The PR and communications expert will also be tasked with revising internal and external communications and actively driving forward the repositioning.
Franziska von Weissenfluh, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors, will act as interim CEO until a new appointment is made.
"The level this year is terrific"
Werbewoche spoke with Ralf Kostgeld in Cannes. The chief creative officer at Ammarkt was selected this year as a Swiss jury member for the «Direct» category.
Editorial

June 25, 2015
Taichi Harada (Senior Creative Director, ADK Japan), Ralf Kostgeld (Creative Director Ammarkt, Switzerland) and Jimmy Lam (Vice Chairman / Chief Creative Officer, DDB China) a bit tired after a few long days of judging in the Cannes Lions Direct Jury 2015.
Ralf Kostgeld, can you share your impression of the judging with us? Boarding fee: Overdose of impressions. Tsunami of big ideas. Perfection in the implementation. The level presented to us this year is terrific. That's why there are some very good ideas among them, which unfortunately didn't make it. Of course there are also Swiss works among them - what a pity. What is particularly striking is the excellent quality of the case films, some of which feature top CBS news anchors. A lot of work has been done to make the idea as compact and convincing as possible for the jury within two minutes. In the judging process, the focus is on insight (strategy), creation (idea) and effectiveness (measurability). This was applied in an exemplary manner by the jury of 25. At the Lions Metal Awards, the works were hotly debated. It is essential to apply the right arguments at the right time. I am very pleased that Switzerland has already won a Gold Lion and two Silver Lions (Saatchi&Saatchi/Vangardist) in the "Direct" category. The Gold Young Lion especially.
The outside sign to the judging room Direct Lions 2015
The Jury Handbook with all info about the jury process
What were the trends in the "Direct" category? Even more targeted. Even more multi-level. Even more networked. Even more synergetic. Even more activating. Even more binding. Even more direct. The trend of "Direct" is perhaps also this, that "Indirect" is sometimes the most direct way to be "Direct". Because so much is technologically possible today, the possibilities for sophisticated communication concepts are almost unlimited. Mobile integration certainly plays a significant role in this. This was done for Volvo in the most surprising and radical way. That's why we jury members awarded Volvo "Interception" with the Grand Prix.
How do you like the festival and the organization in general so far? The organization is really excellent. You can feel the many years of experience and the drive for constant improvement. Lions Festivals Jury Director Lisa Berlin and her team have thought of everything. And that's why the stress factor before and during the judging was reduced by a lot. Due to a 30 percent increase in submissions, the CannesLions organization reacted quickly and initiated a pre-jury. This took a whole weekend and a few evenings. So we had already seen some nice things and had already made a pre-selection. This gave us more time during the main judging in Cannes to precisely discuss individual points in the group.
The tablet for judging Creativity, Strategy, Execution and Results
Which experiences on the judging days will remain particularly memorable for you? The final spurt of the decision process for the Grand Prix: The women were interestingly for "Handsoff", a work for a porn website and the men rather for "Interception" from Volvo. In the beginning the biggest industry was clearly ahead (no, not the car industry, but the porn industry), but then in the end, after very long discussions until 2am in the morning, Volvo's innovative DM mechanism won the race.

...and voting.
Some works to be evaluated are additionally available as originals.
The Cannes Lions Direct Grand Prix Award Ceremony
What do you take from Cannes to Ammarkt to St. Gallen with? Information. Inspiration. Motivation. Emotion.
What are you looking forward to now, what are your plans for the next few days? Until now it was the turn of the jury and the press conferences. Now I can finally follow the festival intensively, study the works even more closely and listen to some interesting speeches. I'm looking forward to one in particular on Thursday afternoon - from advertising legend Jeff Goodby from GS&P in San Francisco. It's just enormously empowering to get a picture of where the industry is headed. Because it's never been more exciting to use creativity efficiently for our clients.

Trademark dispute between Lindt and Haribo
Do Haribo's gummy bears and Lindt's golden chocolate bears look too similar? The Federal Court of Justice, Germany's highest court, must settle this question in a trademark dispute between Haribo and Lindt & Sprüngli.
Editorial
-
June 25, 2015
Haribo believes its trademark rights have been infringed by Lindt's chocolate bear: Since Christmas 2011, the Swiss manufacturer has also been offering the so-called Lindt Teddy in imitation of its well-known golden chocolate Easter bunny. The chocolate bear is wrapped in gold foil and wears a red bow around its neck. Haribo, on the other hand, has been selling gummy bears in gold-colored packaging since the 1960s and later also had the word mark "Goldbären" protected for them.
The German confectionery manufacturer argues that consumers automatically make a connection with its gummy bears when they see an embodied golden bear in the confectionery segment. Haribo therefore wants the bear to disappear from the racks.
Lindt & Sprüngli sees no risk of confusion. One is a gummy bear in a bag, the other a chocolate product. The teddy is also a further development of the company's own product line, which also includes the Lindt bunny.
The lower courts have ruled differently, according to a release Thursday: While the Cologne Regional Court followed Haribo's reasoning, the Cologne Higher Regional Court ruled in favor of Lindt in the second round. Now the case comes before the Federal Court of Justice.
Whether Lindt would also have to stop selling its chocolate teddy in Switzerland and other countries if the German court ruling against the company fails is open, according to the statement. Lindt spokeswoman Kälin did not want to explicitly comment on this on Thursday. As long as there is no legally binding last-instance ruling, the Teddy will continue to be sold, Kälin made clear. Seven layoffs at the NZZ
The Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) is cutting seven editorial positions. The media company has not disclosed which departments are affected.

June 25, 2015
In total, there will be seven redundancies, NZZ announced on Thursday in response to an inquiry from SDA. The job cuts are part of the project adopted in 2013 to build a convergent editorial department based on the principle of digital first.
According to the NZZ, this project provides for an overall increase in personnel, but also for restructuring in some areas. It is therefore not a savings program. On the contrary: After the seven layoffs, the NZZ says it will actually have twelve more jobs in the editorial department than at the end of 2013. (SDA)

Six answers to open IGEM questions about the TV panel
In 2013, the Media Studies Commission highlighted shortcomings in Mediapulse’s TV ratings system, at times in strong terms. A year later, IGEM wanted to know what improvements had been made since then. Although Mediapulse addressed the questions, it left most of them unanswered. *Werbewoche* now provides some answers.
Editorial
-
June 24, 2015
Every year, the Media Science Commission (MWK) checks whether Mediapulse's radio and TV research meets scientific requirements. To this end, it writes a report each time. In the 2013 report, however, a rather sharp tone is noticeable with regard to the new TV research. Admittedly, the MWK states that the new TV panel, which the company Kantar Media Switzerland (KMS) had commissioned Mediapulse to put into operation from 2013, had been "thoroughly functional" in the first half of 2013 despite "some youthful imperfections." That sounds positive. However, it becomes clear from the context: with "functional", only the grade "just sufficient" is meant, because according to MWK, the panel only earned a "sufficient" from August 2013, and then from November onwards, a just "good" was possible. Thanks to the improvements, it formulated "no fundamental reservations" against the data publication, wrote the MWK at the time, which incidentally consists of three scientists: Prof. Dr. Heinz Bonfadelli from the University of Zurich, Prof. Dr. Dr. Michael Schenk, University of Fribourg, and Dr. Walter Hättenschwiler, University of Stuttgart.
Some members of the Interessengemeinschaft elektronischer Medien (IGEM) had read the 2013 MWK report and therefore wanted to know from Mediapulse at the IGEM lunch on May 27, 2015, how it deals with the MWK's points of criticism and which recommendations it has implemented or still intends to implement. The result was a questionnaire of over 20 questions. Mediapulse presented itself to the IGEM members - Foundation Board President Franziska von Weissenfluh, currently also Managing Director ad interim, Chief Research Officer Manuel Dähler and Head of Research Caroline Kellerhals were present. An appearance with a blemish: The three Mediapulse representatives verbosely covered the 40 or so IGEM members present with promises and tables, but the questionnaire itself was "not answered concretely," as IGEM noted in its communiqué afterwards. At the event itself, IGEM President Stephan Küng complained that the presentation had been "a bit too fast". And one participant said that he still had "not a very good feeling about the panel and the data".
It would have been quite possible to answer at least some IGEM questions despite the limited time. Not only from the point of view of Mediapulse, but even from the impartial perspective of MWK. This is because the MWK had also scrutinized the TV panel in 2014 and published another report at the beginning of May 2015. In this report, the overall assessment is now much more positive than in 2013. The MWK attests to Mediapulse that, compared to the previous year, "great progress has been made in most areas" and that the measurement system is now "far more than just functional". "In this sense (...) no reservations can be made regarding publication of the data." However, it went on to hold that "with respect to an ideal state, however, there is still work to be done in the areas indicated."
MWK again addressed the "indicated areas" in detail. This now makes it possible for Werbewoche to not only pick up on the most important MWC criticisms from 2013 here (marked in yellow in the speech bubbles (see PDF link below)), but also to answer the corresponding IGEM questions (green) - always based on the new MWC report 2014 (blue).
Back to the IGEM lunch: During the Q&A session, two concrete answers were given. Someone wanted to know whether the data provided by the new panel at the beginning of 2013 are still at all comparable with today's figures, despite the many adjustments that have been made in the meantime. Caroline Kellerhals first put it into perspective: "That's a question of market convention." Because this determines the tolerance towards methodological or technical changes. "But according to the current market convention, the figures are comparable," she added.
Another person wanted to know what the watermarking test from fall 2013 had shown. At that time, Mediapulse had compared the results of the panel with a second measurement, for which the three stations RTL Germany, Switzerland and Austria each broadcast their own additional signal, an inaudible "watermark" (watermarking), in addition to their normal program signal. This made the three channels, some of which broadcast identical programming (simulcasting), more clearly distinguishable from each other for the KMS audio matching system. A comparison of the two results now showed that the test with watermarking resulted in a small additional use for all three channels, which the normal KMS system had not detected.
Interestingly, however, usage did not decrease for any channel in favor of another. Dähler concluded from this that the KMS system without watermarking must exclude TV usage that it cannot assign to any channel (so-called "unmatched"), but that there is no channel confusion. The differences with and without watermarking are so small that the additional effort with watermarking is not worthwhile, said Dähler. All the more so, as the KMS system also has to exclude less and less unmatched use. This was also confirmed by MWK in its 2014 report: usage that could not be assigned to a station had halved to 1% of total usage in 2014. "This means that watermarking is likely to become less attractive, and not just because of the high costs involved," writes the MWK.

SDV Award 2015: The Winners
At the “Weightless” Awards Night in Zurich, the Swiss direct marketing industry celebrated its high achievers. A total of 42 gold, silver, and bronze awards were presented across 17 categories.
Editorial

June 24, 2015
The advertising elite gathered at the Kongresshaus in Zurich on Friday to award the best of their guild. In total, the 26-member jury around the experienced captain Christian Huldi awarded 42 metal awards as well as 24 certificates. It was not only the award winners who were completely detached on this evening: amidst the space decorations, Melanie Winiger and Chris Hanselmann also presented as if from another star.
While Winiger maneuvered the award rocket as daringly as she was experienced through the universe of dialog marketing, her co-pilot Hanselmann also provided intergalactic entertainment with his guitar. After the awards ceremony, the exuberant advertising stars performed moonwalks to the music of DJ Luzius Wespe.
More prices, more gold
After the Gold Award was presented three times last year, it was received five times last Friday. 16 astronauts flew in silver, 21 bronze. The bottom line is that eight more trophies were awarded than in 2014. All winners in all categories are listed in the table at the end of the article.
The strongest force field in the advertising space was once again provided by the Limmat City. Y&R Group Switzerland is the most successful agency at this year's Dialog Marketing Award. The agency particularly shone with its compliments campaign for Migros' "I am" range and the relaunch of the Migipedia participation platform. The SDV Award jury's reward: 1 x gold and 1 x silver for "I am" and 2 x silver for Migipedia. The successful evening for Y&R Group Switzerland was rounded off with two bronze awards for the freefall campaign for Audi and the spam mail for the organization "Tischlein deck dich".
Gold for the Migros "I am" campaign (from left to right): Corin Camenisch (Migros), Sarah Paul, Edi Walker, Marion Lim (Y&R Group Switzerland)
Agency at the airport breaks Zurich's dominance
One agency, however, was able to break the phalanx of Zurich's DM cracks: The St. Gallen agency at the airport collected, among other things, two silver and two bronze medals on its mission, which resulted in no less than thirteen points in the final ranking. After enjoying some time off last year, the agency was back in the game this year at the SDV Awards and was able to take no less than four prizes and three awards back to eastern Switzerland. The acquisition mailing "Immobilienmarkt aufgeräumt" for T. Ruggiero & Söhne was rewarded with silver. Also praised with silver was the somewhat different scatter mailing "Hüttengaudi im Milchkästli" for Seminarhotel Sempachersee. The creative team from Altenrhein won bronze for the "Chondebendigs-Meeling" for the Appenzell-based company Tubeforce and the "Weissbrief" for cleaning. The asbestos awareness mailing "An der Oberfläche gekrazt" for Suva, the agency's own advertising "Spendenmailing" and the "Chondebendings-Meeling" were also honored with a Letter of Distinction.
Double gold for Ringleader customer loyalty program from Havas
This year, the young unit Havas Digital was awarded gold at the SDV Awards for the customer loyalty program "Ringleader" in not one but two categories: Customer Loyalty Programs and Mailing B2B 2D. In addition, Havas Digital received two shortlist awards "Letter of Distinction" in the categories "Integrated Dialog Campaigns" and "Craft: Production" at the SDV Awards. The campaign has already received awards in recent weeks: in Germany with the DDV Award in Silver and the "Golden Award of Montreux" in Gold, as well as further shortlist nominations at the Best of Swiss Web Award and the German Prize for Online Communication.
The components of the success story: mysterious mailings, a talking website and exclusive events for the selected ring leaders. 1800 customers of an IT distributor received a personalized mailing with a specially developed iris to measure the size of their ring finger. The determined code enables access to the website Ringleader.ch. Where possible, the NFC ring was brought to the customer by drone.
Great success for small business: gold and bronze for Skiss
The communication agency Skiss from Emmenbrücke has won precious metal twice: Gold was awarded in the category "Craft: Production", bronze in the category "Mailing B2B (2D)". Skiss prevailed against established national players from advertising and communication, as the agency is pleased to announce in a press release. The elaborately handcrafted, personalized invitation to last year's Skiss Open Office called "Sightseeing Emmenbronx" convinced a top-class jury of experts with its creativity and professional implementation.

Back to the future
This year, too, young Ripleys and Major-Toms were allowed to send in their work and dream of reaching for the stars. The space race was finally won by Anouk Karrer and Vasco Bickel in an interplanetary collaboration: Karrer works as a junior copywriter at Maxomedia, Bickel as a graphic designer at Metzger Rottmann Bürge. Their cross-media campaign deals with the advertising of the future. As winners, the two will be allowed to work with SDV on the campaign for the 2016 award, thus gaining important experience.

Best Newcomer
Committed to astronomy, the SDV looks up to the firmament every year to discover new stars. This year, it sighted the Mehrwert agency, which is based in Baden. The "Fresh juice for conscious marketing" campaign and "On to the Mission Cloud" convinced the jury to such an extent that the shooting stars from Aargau were awarded the Post Prize for the best newcomer.

Basel-Landschaft government does not respond to voting rights complaint
According to the government of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft, there should be no recount of the votes cast in the federal referendum on the Radio and Television Act (RTVG). It has declined to consider a complaint filed by a voter making this demand.

The complaint submitted to the cantonal chancellery demanded that the result of the vote on the Radio and TV Act of 14 June 2015 be reviewed nationwide (Werbewoche.ch reported). The Baselbieter government justifies its decision not to intervene with a Federal Supreme Court ruling according to which a cantonal government does not have the competence to assess legal petitions aimed at measures that would have an effect outside its canton. The voting rights appeal was submitted by an unnamed private individual. The new law was adopted by an extremely narrow margin of just 0.16 percent or 3174 votes. In the Basel region, the result was much clearer: 45.8 percent voted in favor, compared to 54.2 percent against; the difference was 6658 votes. (SDA)
