Bloom Identity: Brand identity for app of the future

The Bern-based agency Bloom Identity created the brand identity for Twint, the digital wallet from Postfinance.

Payment by cell phone has not yet caught on in Switzerland. With the Twint app, Postfinance is now launching Switzerland's first integrated payment and shopping app. Twint is set to revolutionize shopping. From fall 2015, anyone who uses their smartphone for more than just making phone calls will be able to use Twint to pay for their purchases in stores, at vending machines, online or at events. And that's not all: thanks to additional innovative services related to shopping, people will be able to integrate the app into their daily shopping routine. Digital natives should love Twint - that is the goal of the brand identity that the Bern-based branding agency Bloom Identity has developed for the Postfinance subsidiary Twint.

Bildwelt

Twint as a loyal companion - with this goal in mind, Bloom Identity worked out the future brand profile of Twint, from the definition of the brand values and the brand core to the positioning. What's special about Twint is that the brand must function above all in the digital world. Because Twint is reaching into the future - the app will reinvent itself again and again in the coming years with the rapid digital development. What seems impossible today, the app will make an issue of in a few years. Twint's brand identity is therefore aimed at currying favor with urban and digitally affine people. They should integrate the app into their connected everyday lives - just as they do with apps like Instagram, Airbnb, or Pinterest.

Brandstory

Tailored to this target segment and based on the brand values, Bloom Identity created a brand identity with an eye-catching profile that relies on catchy shapes and colors. The brand identity is supported by a visual world that tells stories from life. The word picture mark is based on a few terms that stand for Twint and thus for this app of the future. By visualizing these individual terms in explicit forms and merging these forms into a simple, graphic, emotional form, the future word picture mark for Twint was created.

Last but not least: Software tester New

What would Manuel Neuer's life be like if he hadn't staked everything on soccer back then? Pretty dull, according to Coke Zero.

The commercial created by the Berlin agency Plantage is a hit. After two days, almost half a million clicks on YouTube - and, for once, enthusiastic feedback. Not a matter of course when a Bayern player exposes himself. And acts. But Neuer does it so well that you simply have to like the campaign. Even if it's hard to imagine that Neuer's life would have been so colorless without football.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxexqXg7K5Y

Incidentally, this is not the first time that Neuer has hit the mark as a Coke Zero testimonial. He already did that in 2014. Back then with the "Maybe I'm not your girlfriend, but Manuel Neuer" commercial (Youtube link). In contrast to the current work, the campaign at the time was not overly well received by the public. But it did have a nice side effect for Coke Zero: the "...but Manuel Neuer" slogans became a viral running gag on the net during the World Cup in Germany. Not bad, considering that the testimonial Neuer played a prominent role on the way to the World Cup title. (hae)

Publicis Zurich launches "Drugstore"

In times of change, companies can only survive if they reinvent themselves every day and constantly develop solutions that open up new possibilities for their customers. That is why Publicis Zurich is launching «Drugstore» as the third agency in the global Publicis network.

"Drugstore offers companies a platform to come together with start-ups from a wide range of sectors. Impact Hub Zurich on board

To ensure that "Drugstore" is optimally positioned for interdisciplinary work, Publicis has sought collaboration with Impact Hub Zurich, where developers and creatives provide the ideal breeding ground for start-up ideas. With around 500 members and 20 employees, projects can be driven forward quickly and unconventionally, opening up completely new and dynamic perspectives for entrepreneurial thinking. With the "Brand to Product" project, Publicis "Drugstore", together with Impact Hub Zurich, is also offering a first product that sets new standards: an innovation lab consisting of brand experts and tech start-ups that is intended to unleash previously unimagined synergy potential and bring together the best of both worlds.

A prototype in five days

In an open creative process - involving innovation experts, trend researchers, start-up entrepreneurs, brand strategists, interaction designers and software developers - new business models, products or services are created together with the customer. This close collaboration ensures that the brand mission and corporate goals are always in line with product development. And thanks to the agile innovation design and development methods, a first prototype can be presented just five days after the kick-off with "Brand to Product". Publicis Zurich's "Drugstore" is thus intended to offer companies an attractive innovation platform that delivers on the promise of "Lead the change" made by Switzerland's largest advertising agency.

Curdin Janett, Publicis Zurich, in a press release: "For decades, we have focused on brand management. Differentiating positioning, resulting brand promises and, of course, translating these into communication. By working with Impact Hub, we can now go a significant step further and think about products and services that deliver on these promises. At a time when product, service and brand have moved even closer together, this seems to us to be the right and promising way forward. We are looking forward to it."

Christoph Birkholz, Impact Hub Zurich: "With Publicis and Impact Hub, leading brand development and agile product development come together to make clients and partners fit for the future of business. In just one week, "Brand to Product" combines the experience of Publicis with the methods of techies and creatives from the Impact Hub community. This unique collaboration is itself a prototype for solutions from and with the innovation and start-up ecosystem on a national and international level."

City of Zurich grants Clear Channel concession for LCD screens and illuminated turntables

The City of Zurich has awarded Clear Channel Switzerland the contract for ten digital advertising displays (LCD screens) and twenty illuminated rotating billboard columns. The displays generate 3.2 million francs annually for the city’s coffers.

Clear Channel has thus been awarded the concession for all publicly tendered systems. These are to be completed by the end of the year and put into operation from 1 January 2016. Clear Channel is thus expanding its offering in the city of Zurich not only in terms of quantity, but also in terms of quality, and is strengthening its presence. According to the press release, all facilities are in excellent, highly frequented locations. Thorsten Weber, Product & Infrastructure Director Clear Channel Switzerland, is delighted with this success: "This concession gives us additional top locations in the city of Zurich, allowing us to offer our customers an even better portfolio."

New advertising installations bring more money into Zurich's city coffers

From 2016, the thirty new advertising installations will bring around CHF 3.2 million a year into Zurich's city coffers. The city had only expected 1.2 million francs. The increase was made possible by Clear Channel's bid. The bid was significantly higher than expected, as the city council announced on Wednesday. A total of four companies took part in the public tender. The systems are to be implemented by the end of the year and put into operation from January 1, 2016. The costs for the project planning and construction of the illuminated rotating columns amount to CHF 900,000 for the city and CHF 250,000 for the LCD screens.

The illuminated rotating columns can be operated from dawn until midnight at the latest. The rotation speed may not exceed one revolution per minute. The LCD screens are in operation from dawn until 10 pm. A life cycle assessment is planned for the LCD screens at the end of the first year of operation. This will compare the construction and operation of digital media with conventional advertising installations. The result will serve as a basis for the city council to decide whether further installations of this type can be built on public land in the future. (pd/SDA/hae)

Council of States: More money for tourism promotion

The Council of States wants to provide greater support for tourism. On Wednesday, it decided to increase the budget for the marketing organization Switzerland Tourism by 9.5 million francs for the next four years.

This would make a total of 230 million Swiss francs available to the organization in the period 2016-2019. The Federal Council had requested 220.5 million francs. However, the Economic Commission of the Council of States considered a higher amount necessary, as the tourism industry is particularly exposed to the exchange rate. Switzerland has become an expensive place for European guests, said commission spokesman Stefan Engler (CVP/GR). In order to cushion this, Switzerland Tourism has to work more and more markets, he said.

Winning back European customers

For Thomas Minder (SH/partisan), even a marketing budget of 270 million francs would have been appropriate to cultivate the Swiss brand abroad. The aim was to win back European customers. These would have to be "made aware of the beauty of our country with special effort," said Minder. Anita Fetz (SP/BS) fought the increase, pointing out that a Swiss franc is worth more abroad today. In her opinion, tourism promotion also lacks ideas. In fact, hotels would benefit from a free Swiss booking platform or a blockbuster movie - Mürren still benefits from James Bond today, she said. "I have nothing against investing millions in tourism promotion, but I simply expect more," Fetz said. In the end, the motion of the Economic Commission clearly prevailed. The National Council had rejected the increase, and it will now have to deal with it again. There is also no agreement yet on other credits in the location promotion package.

Administrative relief

The National Council had cut the amount for the promotion of e-government by CHF 5.3 million to CHF 12.4 million. The Council of States has now reinstated the CHF 17.7 million requested by the Federal Council. Among other things, this is intended to ease the administrative burden on SMEs by enabling them to process official procedures at federal, cantonal and municipal level via a portal. The Council of States also increased the payment framework for export promotion by CHF 4.4 million to CHF 94 million. In total, the package is worth just under CHF 388 million. It also includes the promotion of innovation and cooperation in tourism, the extension of the supplementary loan for the company Hotelkredit and the promotion of information about Switzerland as a business location. The Federal Council had requested 374 million francs for location promotion. This is 58 million more than in the previous period. Even then, the parliament increased the credits.

New regional policy

The bill also includes the second multi-year program of the New Regional Policy 2016 to 2023, which is to be financed by contributions to the Regional Development Fund of CHF 230 million over eight years. With the New Regional Policy, the federal government is supporting mountain regions, rural areas and border regions in managing structural change. The focus of the program remains on export-oriented economic sectors, and the funding priorities in the next period will be industry and tourism. (SDA)

Brand architecture, positioning, naming and design

Together with the management and the owner, Scholtysik & Partner develops the brand architecture, the competitive positioning, the uniform naming system and a cross-company visual identity. The common Q-signet and the HQ name element emphasize the connection to the founding family Harald Quandt and are the unifying building blocks of the HQ brand family. The new brand identity of HQ Finanzdienstleister is internationally understandable, appears clear and straightforward and emphasizes the German origin and German quality standards in the Anglo-Saxon financial mainstream.

Last but not least: At the table

Vacation at a nudist camp? A new German roommate? Scout camp? When decisions are made, you should have a say. So says IKEA.

Decisions are often made in convivial rounds at the round table. In France, Ikea is fighting to encourage people to sit down together at tables again instead of being conspicuous by their absence. Ikea's love of the table comes from the fact that Ikea sells tables. And chairs. And everything else that goes with a good discussion (except the red wine).

If you stay away from the decision-making rounds, you run the risk of suddenly finding yourself in situations that you don't really like. And which you would never have agreed to. But as I said...

The French agency Buzzmann under Creative Director Georges Mohammed-Chérif shows in three extremely amusing spots how unfavorably it can end, if one keeps away from Ikea table rounds. (hae)

Franz & René: Guerilla for soft mobility

This summer, Franz & René launched a major communication campaign for Energieschweiz called “Bike4Car,” promoting e-bikes as a primary mode of transportation. The trade-in promotion was publicized through a guerrilla marketing campaign.

The aim of Bike4Car is to raise awareness among urban motorists so that they discover the advantages of an e-bike. Those interested can exchange their car for an e-bike free of charge for two weeks and also benefit from a four-month subscription to Mobility Car Sharing.

700 e-bikes are available throughout Switzerland until the end of September at the main partners of the +Stromer- and Coop Bau+Hobby project. The platform Bike4car.ch allows to locate the e-bikes available in the vicinity. The campaign was advertised throughout the summer at national level on TV, on street posters, fuel dispensers and with POS material in partner stores. In addition, a guerrilla action was launched in city centers by means of the " Walking Minds " - surprising and a first in Switzerland.
