"Yes!" is the answer to all questions

Even Western Union is jumping on the optimism bandwagon in these times of economic crisis—the same one that Barack Obama used to launch his successful campaign. The global advertising agency Publicis Hong Kong has developed the money transfer company’s first global campaign. It is designed to radiate optimism and positive thinking. The message, aptly titled «Yes!», captures this perfectly. In addition to various advertising campaigns, an eye-catching TV commercial was created: In a wide variety of locations around the world, the letters Y, E, and S fly through the air—large and three-dimensional, they dance through the air like balloons, their appearance as light and fluffy as an appetizer pastry. The dancing elements eventually come together above the rooftops of a city to form «Yes!».
Among the creative minds behind the campaign are film director Antoine Bardou-Jacquet, photojournalist Steve McCurry, and typographer David Carson. The music for the TV commercial was composed by Moroccan musician Hindi Zahra. The campaign’s imagery was captured in locations including Morocco, Singapore, Los Angeles, and Cape Town. The commercial is aimed at approximately 200 million people living outside their home countries. With this campaign, the money transfer company aims to position itself as a service provider that enables people around the world to maintain connections across the globe. The brand communication was designed for more than 200 countries where Western Union operates and has been translated into over 40 different languages. The campaign includes robust multichannel elements intended to «expand and align» the brand communication across the more than 200 participating countries, as Publicis explains. Other elements of the campaign include a dedicated microsite designed to foster online engagement with consumers. POS materials are available at 320,000 service counters. These are complemented by street art and viral techniques, such as a ’making-of« video for the commercial on YouTube under »Western Union Yes.”. For the first time in its 150-year history, Western Union is launching a comprehensive global branding campaign based on this concept. According to estimates, nearly 400 billion USD are now sent around the world via Western Union each year.

Lesch + Frei Zurich has created a fundraising campaign for the aid organization Swissaid. The campaign aims to draw attention to the absurdity of converting food into fuel. The subjects visualize this by transforming the petrol pump into a coffin. The message "The price of a tank of agrofuel" illustrates the visual message. An appeal for donations will also be launched to encourage the Swiss population to support the aid organization in its fight against the displacement of the population in the South by the fuel multinationals - in line with the motto "Hunger is not destiny". The advertising motif can be seen on posters in German and French-speaking Switzerland and is available in dispensers on public transport. Leaflets will be distributed and direct mailings sent out from mid-February.

Last but not least: Nouvelle Revue Française turns 100

It was published for the first time on February 1, 1909 and gradually developed into a beacon of French literature. We are talking about the nrfthe Nouvelle Revue Française. Through its fateful connection with the Gallimard publishing house, it was jointly responsible for publishing authors such as Mallarmé, Baudelaire and Proust in its early days. This was the birth of the "Editions de la Nouvelle Revue". The heyday of the nrf in the interwar period, when it rose to become France's leading intellectual and literary organ. During this time, it gave a voice to authors such as Breton, Kafka, Musil, Cocteau and Aragon. After the Second World War, it never regained its former greatness. According to the Süddeutsche, it is now more and more like a monument. The circulation has fallen to around 1000 copies. Several retrospectives are now being published to mark the 100th anniversary. Joyeux anniversaire!

Who would have known: Burger King's legendary Whopper has been around for half a century! To mark this anniversary, the fast food chain has launched an over 50s campaign. The advertisements come in the form of glossy presentations reminiscent of beauty and fashion ads. The burger is presented by a model in a silky pink dress. And the highlight: both the burger and the woman are - even if you can't tell by looking at them - both over 50. The seductive effect of the images is underlined by the slogan "Over 50 and still hot. The Whopper". Both the burger and the model have been optically tuned as far as Photoshop can take them. The over 50 model looks just as crisp and fresh as the salad between the sandwich buns. Regardless, while the word "original" is desirable for the Whopper, authenticity seems to be downright cursed on the ad subject. No big deal - as we all know, the eye eats too.
