Anti-minaret posters: Unacceptable but not banned

The Association of Valais Cities describes the anti-minaret posters as «repulsive.» Nevertheless, it does not want to ban them. Federal Councilor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf describes the posters of the supporters of the anti-minaret initiative as «completely unacceptable.» Nevertheless, she opposes a ban on the posters.

The Association of Valais Towns does not want to ban the posters. People are in a position to make up their own minds, association president Fernand Mariétan told SDA on Thursday. The Association of Valais Municipalities, on the other hand, does not want to comment on the posters. They don't want to do any more advertising, explained president Marianne Maret.
Federal Councillor Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf is also against a ban on posters. She would rather discuss the initiative than the posters, said the Justice Minister on the fringes of the media conference on the anti-minaret initiative. The poster discussion would only create additional publicity for the initiative. Objectively, it was up to the municipalities to decide on the posters. However, Widmer-Schlumpf left no doubt that she does not think much of the controversial poster. This poster was completely unacceptable to her, also from the point of view of the rule of law. Nevertheless, it is a poster and provides a basis for debating this issue, she said. She has confidence in the Swiss people to interpret the poster and the debate on it correctly.

Last but not least: Fully correct project

"God is the head checker! He is totally correct, what he says is an announcement and he remains our Big Daddy forever!!!". Could be a desperate attempt by a free church to attract the attention of today's youth and get them on board in the next step. Could be, but it's not.

Not quite, anyway. Rather, it is an excerpt from the book "And God chilled" - the Holy Scriptures in the form of short messages of 140 characters each. A total of 3,906 short messages were collected by more than 3,000 authors at the end of May to create the book of books in Twitter format. Incidentally, the template for the book title was provided by a certain J. V.: "On the seventh day, God was finished with his creative project, thought the result was brilliant and decided to chill out from now on," was her summary of a passage from the Bible. Oh well. Interesting project. Whether the world was waiting for this remains to be seen. As does the question of why you can't use 140 characters to express yourself in a language beyond chill, cool, correct and so on. But no matter: at least they don't do anything stupid, the youth of today.

DAB+ launches in German-speaking Switzerland with twelve channels

The rollout of digital radio in Switzerland is moving forward: Starting Thursday, listeners in German-speaking Switzerland will be able to receive DAB+ in addition to the standard DAB.

Private radio stations are now also broadcasting in digital quality. While the DAB range is reserved exclusively for SRG broadcasters, the DAB+ standard is also open to private radio providers. Radio Top Two, Life Channel, Radio Energy, Radio Basel DAB, Backstageradio and the licensed providers Radio Eviva and Open Broadcast can now be received via digital radio. The latter is currently being tested. In addition, the DAB+ program ensemble includes five SRG stations: DRS 4 News, Radio Swiss Jazz, Rete Tre and Option Musique, as reported by Swiss Media Cast, which is responsible for the development of the Swiss-German transmitter network, according to SDA. The English-language SRG program World Radio Switzerland (WRS) will also be broadcast via DAB+.

Günther Heuberger, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swiss Media Cast, spoke to the media on Wednesday of an "opportunity for private broadcasters". According to Heuberger, Radio Energy is likely to prove to be the "driving force" behind the spread of digital radio. The popular Zurich station was left empty-handed in the FM license award for the Zurich-Glarus broadcasting area in October 2008. It will probably have to cease FM operations at the end of the year.
Offer to be expanded soon
For the time being, DAB+ can be received in German-speaking Switzerland in the cities of Zurich, Basel and Bern and their conurbations. From spring 2010, coverage of the areas between the urban agglomerations will follow. Expansion into the Winterthur area is also planned. Swiss Media Cast assumes that the range of eleven stations will soon be expanded. For example, the licensed stations Swiss Mountain Holiday Radio, Radio.ch, RadioJay and Djradio are to be switched on "shortly". A total of 18 channels are available for DAB+.
