Google Street View: Faces and license plates to be blurred better

Google Street View wants to blur car numbers and faces more effectively. The company is responding to the recommendations of the Federal Data Protection Commissioner Hanspeter Thür, as Google announced on Thursday. However, none of Thür's demands have been met.

Google will use a new software version to improve the anonymization of faces, according to the communiqué. Google also agreed to enter into a dialog to explain how the Street View technology works. The company also wanted to take into account sensitive areas in a city where people could be embarrassed if they were photographed there.
However, Google does not want to compromise on camera height The data protection officer had demanded that cameras be mounted as low as possible.
that it is not possible to record private gardens and yards. According to SDA, the internet service provider wants to record buildings, traffic signs and other useful objects in such a way that they can be recognized. A lower mast would mean that the camera would be closer to pedestrians' head height, the company wrote.

The company wrote that Google was unable to meet the demand for precise notification of new recordings. Unplanned events such as the weather or traffic conditions force Google to change locations at the last minute.

The new waistband in Tagi dress

Since Thursday, readers of the daily newspaper Der Bund have been holding a new paper in their hands. The newspaper has adapted its layout to that of the Zürcher Tages-Anzeiger. However, certain unique features have been retained.

In addition to the different newspaper headers, the two newspapers also differ in terms of color. Der Bund, for example, retains its typical blue hue. The papers are also different in structure. As Bund editor-in-chief Artur K. Vogel explains, this is intended to emphasize the independence of the partners.
The Bund now has five columns instead of six. The weekly supplement Der kleine Bund is now included in the newspaper as a fourth fascicle every day. The magazine is then added to the newspaper on Saturdays.
The Confederation also takes over content from the Tages-Anzeiger, as the SDA writes. In addition to foreign reporting, major economic topics, national and international culture and sporting events are also taken over, provided they do not take place in Bern. The joint editorial office in Bern is run by the Confederation.

Advertising agency: Cunning advertising for HSR

Under the slogan «By the time you graduate, the business world will be clamoring for you,» the advertising agency for the Rapperswil University of Applied Sciences (HSR) has launched a campaign. The campaign takes this phrase literally, word for word.

The University of Applied Sciences in Rapperswil HSR is beautifully located, directly on the shore of Lake Zurich, Rapperswil Castle is within eyeshot, and the train station is only a few minutes' walk away. It would have been easy to make this unique environment the theme of the communication measures and thus position HSR. However, the team from the advertising agency, which was commissioned with communications for the university after a pitch, rightly asked themselves: Are these the relevant main reasons to attend a university? The answer: no. According to the agency, the main thing that interests students is their future prospects. The only thing that really counts at the end of a bachelor's degree is the prospect of a good job.

ADC: New CEO and new competition design

The Art Directors Club for Germany is starting the next award season with a completely revised competition concept. In addition, following the surprising resignation of ADC Board Spokesman Amir Kassaei, the course has been set for a fresh start in the spokesperson's office.

The new competition model is intended to highlight the diversity of creative disciplines in the changed media landscape more clearly. In future, there will be 138 different categories instead of the previous 46. These are arranged below an eight-pillar model, which in turn consists of 26 competition divisions and the aforementioned 138 categories. In this model, advertising will only make up one area. The other seven competition pillars are dialog marketing, digital media, design, editorial, spatial staging, holistic communication and generic craft. The latter is being introduced from scratch and is intended to recognize individual craftsmanship in the development of communication campaigns.
The modified concept is intended to take greater account of the club's broader opening to disciplines beyond traditional advertising. In future, there will also only be seven award categories instead of the current 37. And from next year, winners will no longer have to pay for publication in the ADC book.
With the unanimous support of the entire Executive Board, Jochen Rädeker, head of the Stuttgart-based design agency Strichpunkt, is running for the position of Executive Board Spokesperson at the members' meeting on November 7. The election should go smoothly for Rädeker. This is because he has the Board's united support. In an interview with Horizont.net, Rädeker said that he was not running to succeed Kassei, but rather for the position of spokesperson in a newly defined ADC. The quintessence of his program: the club of advertisers is to become a club of creatives, in which all communication disciplines - for example digital, communication in space and others - are reflected both in the competition and in the board structure.

New York Times rejects plans to sell Boston Globe

The New York Times has decided not to sell its struggling subsidiary, The Boston Globe, after all. On Wednesday, the publisher cited successful restructuring measures that had significantly improved the Globe’s financial situation as the reason for its decision.

The New York Times publishing house had forecast an operating loss of 85 million dollars for the Globe in 2009. According to the publisher, the savings now achieved amount to at least 38 million dollars. The Globe is therefore still likely to report a considerable loss at the end of the year.

The Boston Globe, like many other newspapers in the US and Europe, is suffering from a severe decline in advertising due to the economic crisis. The internet, with its largely free content, is also increasingly undermining the business model of traditional print media.

Last but not least: Ringier gives away its picture archive

The Ringier publishing house is donating its photo archive to the Aargau State Archives. This comes almost at the same time as the 50th anniversary of the daily newspaper *Blick*. The donation is a well-considered gesture.

Over the decades, 7 million positives from the various areas of the publishing house have been collected. These were cataloged on index cards at great expense and without IT until the end of the 1990s. Ringier is now handing over the physical collection to the State Archives of the Canton of Aargau. According to Fotointern.ch, quite a few companies in the Swiss media scene have "replaced" their image archives, or disposed of them directly following changes in ownership, as was the case with Weltwoche.
The gift to the public, endowed with additional financial resources from Ringier and the support of the Swisslos Fund for the reappraisal, has been carefully considered. Apart from the fact that it safeguards to a certain extent the dedicated work of the existing archivists, it represents a logical continuation of the project to digitize the photo archives and market them through the Ringier subsidiary Specter, which began four years ago. According to Fotointern.ch, Specter will continue to offer those images that are of commercial importance within the Group and to third-party customers.
