Evoq: Ringier Print activated

The Ringier Print printing center in Adligenswil is using its «Top Tips» initiative to gather good ideas from its employees in order to continuously improve day-to-day operations. To give the existing suggestion program a new boost, the Zurich-based creative agency Evoq was commissioned to design an internal engagement campaign.

The agency developed a concept with a series of small posters. Absurd suggestions were illustrated on the posters, encouraging employees to think seriously about improvements to their everyday working lives. The posters were displayed for two weeks in various locations throughout the company, reaching practically all of the 300 or so employees at Blick-Druckerei. Parallel to the poster campaign, employees were informed of the relevance of the "Top Tips" in an official letter from the management. The campaign was implemented internally by Ringier's Marketing and Communications department.

Edipresse: Employees defend themselves against dismissals

About 300 people took part in a rally on Monday in front of the building housing the Western Swiss media group Edipresse. They voiced their discontent over the announced job cuts.

Edipresse Switzerland has no major financial problems and the losses in advertising revenue are only due to the economic situation, said Bernard Remion from the Comedia trade union. Every effort must be made to avoid the redundancies. According to Remion, the cutbacks should be made by reducing workloads and early retirements.

VSE: Playing into the future of electricity with an online game

The Association of Swiss Electricity Companies (VSE) has expanded its "Electricity Future" campaign. A new online game, a mixture of simulation and strategy game, allows users to experiment with the topic of "electricity in everyday life" in an entertaining way.

The residents of an apartment building form the scenario of the game. These include the Kübler architecture firm, grandma Leni Moser, the Roselli family and a shared flat. They all have preferences and hobbies that they pursue. In their everyday lives, they are confronted with numerous energy-related issues: Buying a television or air conditioning. Or the choice of transport to get to work. As an energy coach, each player is responsible for all the people and the building services. When making decisions, it is not only important to keep an eye on electricity consumption, CO2 emissions and the budget, but also the satisfaction of the residents. One of the prizes is an e-scooter.
The aim of the Swiss electricity supplier's "Electricity Future" campaign is to deepen understanding of topics such as electricity and energy efficiency among a broad target group. The online game can also be played in French (Avenirelectricite.ch) or Italian (Futuroelettricita.ch).

Last but not least: Finally, a real men's cookbook!

The Hamburg-based publisher Gruner + Jahr is focusing on men during the crisis. The company is releasing three titles this Thursday. In addition to a men’s spin-off of the celebrity magazine *Gala* and a career magazine, it has also launched a cooking magazine for men.

Beef! - for men with taste. This is the name of the new food and lifestyle magazine for men. Even the cover picture gives you an idea that this is not a new edition of Betty Bossi. In the center is a raw piece of meat, "The best steak in the world". Next to it is the question "Can you cook a woman into bed?". The magazine also contains information about knives in the article "To die for". The subjects on which the magnificent pieces are shown resemble the scene of a serious crime: the victim, a sturgeon, lies on a chopping board, covered with a white cloth. On another page, the sharp kitchen utensils lie wrapped in plastic bags next to a few potatoes. Here, too, the text is tailored to the target group: "butchered potatoes". Another page shows what is left in the kitchen after a "ritual murder of a chicken".
Even if the magazine comes up with harsh expressions, it is - at least at first glance - ultimately all about food. So let's go, men. Get into the kitchen, grab your weapons - but please, keep the "carnage" within limits.

European certificates for Swiss marketing and sales professionals

The Swiss Marketing professional association is now the official certification partner of the European Marketing Confederation (EMC) in Switzerland for educational credentials. With this European certification, Swiss educational credentials in marketing and sales become internationally comparable and recognized.

European certificates from Swiss Marketing are available for Swiss marketing and sales professionals, marketing managers, sales and marketing directors. The new European certificates have been developed under the supervision of the European Commission in accordance with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). The EQF is a translation tool that makes national qualifications comparable and comprehensible throughout Europe. This is intended to promote the mobility of employees and learners between different countries and facilitate their lifelong learning.
The educational qualifications were classified at the following reference levels:

The Netherlands soon without a Sunday newspaper

Soon there will be no more Sunday newspapers in the Netherlands. Following the discontinuation of the regional paper *Twentsche Courant Tubantia* in early 2009, the last Dutch Sunday newspaper, *De Telegraaf op Zondag*, is now also falling victim to the economic crisis.

The Sunday newspaper will continue to be published until the end of the year, the editorial team announced. The publishing group Telegraaf Media Groep (TMG) justified the closure with declining advertising revenues as a result of the recession. As the Süddeutsche Zeitung writes, some editorial sections will appear on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays in the editions of De Telegraaf. With 650,000 copies, the tabloid is the highest-circulation daily newspaper in the Netherlands.

Small Rivers: Connecting blogs and websites

Small Rivers, a company specializing in the development of distributed web services, has launched a new service. This service links related content from various websites and blogs on a single website.

The Portable Content Network allows content publishers and bloggers to tag their content with an intelligent microcode that gives visitors instant access to similar content and blogs elsewhere on the web. It is also possible to interact with visitors to these other websites without leaving the page they initially visited. The environmental protection organization WWF International will be the first to introduce such networks, the company announced.

Small Rivers is a start-up company founded by Edouard Lambelet, former co-founder of MNC (sold to Alcatel-Lucent in 2004), and Iskander Pols, former senior manager at HP Europe. Small Rivers is financed by Business Angels, a venture capital fund that promotes business projects and is supported by the Swiss canton of Vaud. Small Rivers is located in the Science Park of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.

NZZ coordinator Beat Brenner died

NZZ Department Head Beat Brenner passed away early Sunday morning after a brief but serious battle with cancer. Born in 1952, Brenner worked for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung for nearly three decades, serving as coordinator since the fall of 1996.

As a member of the extended editorial team, Brenner was a "motivator, pacemaker and trouble-shooter at the same time", according to the NZZ on Monday. He saw himself as a "bridge builder" between the various departments of the publishing house. After studying economics in Basel, Brenner decided to pursue a career in journalism, initially as a student at Basler Nachrichten. After a brief period as a teacher and freelance journalist, he joined the NZZ business editorial team in 1981. Brenner was considered to have a profound knowledge of the Swiss financial center.

Imprint negotiates with Edipresse

The first round of negotiations between the journalists' union Impressum and representatives of the Edipresse editorial offices on the one hand and the management on the other began on Monday. Impressum is showing solidarity with the protesting employees, but is not participating in the protest as a professional association.

In a press release issued on Monday, the union stated that it considers the current moment to be unsuitable for a street protest during the first round of negotiations. The further course of action depends on the progress of the negotiations. Initially, the focus will be on reducing staff cuts, and later on the social plan. Impressum will use every opportunity to defend the interests of all editorial staff in the negotiations.
