Advico Y&R: Ski and snowboard virus spread via radio

Advico Young & Rubicam has created a series of radio spots on behalf of Sportplausch Wider to raise public awareness of the upcoming “ski and snowboard virus.” The similarities to the swine flu campaign featuring Beat Schlatter are no coincidence.

The spots are intended to provide radio listeners with important rules of conduct and valuable tips for the coming winter season in a humorous way. Because, "with all the noise about swine flu, the ski and snowboard virus seems to be virtually unheard by the public," the advertisers wrote in a press release on Monday.

Online tabloid magazine launched

The new online magazine Seite3.ch launched on Monday. Among the companies behind the tabloid magazine are Vadian.net, Mediabox Online, and Zentnerindustries.ch.

Seite3.ch sees itself as an "old-school tabloid magazine". The website is about world conspiracies, football transfer rumors, police reports and stories about people who have long since been forgotten, as the creators announced on Monday. In keeping with the concept, everything is garnished by a "buxom Seite3 girl". There is also television on screen every day.
Seite3.ch is being launched by the online marketing agency Mediabox Online (Newspool, Szenepool), the web pioneers from Vadian.net (News.ch, Klangundkleid.ch) and editor-in-chief Jürg Zentner (Rockstar, Faces, Kultmagazin). The website is managed by eight editors.

Anti-minaret initiative: Criticized online game remains online

A heavily criticized online game created by opponents of minarets remains online. Walter Wobmann, president of the Committee for the Anti-Minaret Initiative, sees no reason to take it down. There is no shooting in the game.

In response to an article in the commuter newspaper 20 Minuten, Wobmann explained that he did not know why he should take the criticized game off the net. Muezzins are not shot at in the game. They are merely given a "stop sign" when they click and then disappear. A weapon of any kind is simply not present, it is not about shooting at all. The SVP National Councillor from Solothurn therefore took the criticism in his stride.
Georg Kreis, the president of the Anti-Racism Commission, described the game at the weekend as contemptuous of human beings. However, Kreis said on Monday that his commission would not be taking any legal action. It was important to draw the attention of the relevant authorities to the game. The principle of "Resist the beginnings" must clearly apply here.
Sandro Bertschinger, head of the internet provider Hostpoint, where the domain is hosted, explained that his company could not shut down the online game. This would have to be done by the operator of the website, the company Interway. However, the company said that the game had been set up by a customer and not by the company, which meant that it was beyond the company's control. The advertising company Goal in Dübendorf was identified as this customer. They referred to Wobmann for comments.

Teil.ch: Cooking skills put to the test in Margrit's online game

Teil.ch developed the online game «Margrit’s Menu» on behalf of and in collaboration with Ringier Media Sales. The game is being used as a promotional and contest module for Maggi’s cross-media fall campaign. Brand ambassador Claudio Zuccolini, playing the role of Margit, guides users through the game via video clips.

In the game, users can put their cooking skills to the test. Every two weeks, a new menu is presented in which the right ingredients must be selected and the order in which they are cooked must be determined. With each menu, users have the chance to win instant prizes and can collect virtual tickets to increase their chances of winning the final prize draw.

In addition, the most important services and career prospects are presented in the basic education section. With the new web portal, the schools want to better position themselves in a highly competitive environment, as was reported in a press release on Monday. At the same time, the schools will retain their roots in the region and in their market.

Last but not least: As irresistible as a chocolate boy with Axe

To all men: Have you had to cut your budget for expressions of love due to the financial crisis? Or are you simply lacking creativity when it comes to finding a small gift for your loved one? Then you might be interested in the latest promotion from Axe.

The fragrance professional Axe has come up with a sweet temptation for its current promotional campaign. Around 50,000 chocolate boxes are available, which interested men can send to their dream woman free of charge via the Axe.ch website. The promotional gift will make the "boys" irresistible, according to the promise. Simply type in the name and address as well as the contact details of the recipient and nothing stands in the way of the surprise. "We are tapping into women's passion for chocolate and using it as a seduction aid for 'our boys'," says Thomas Rosenfeld, Axe Senior Brand Manager, explaining the concept.
In any case, there is nothing to criticize about the idea, an absolute win-win situation. The "boys" can make themselves irresistible with little effort and their loved one is guaranteed to be delighted. If - contrary to expectations - she doesn't have a sweet tooth, at least the enclosed message should convince her: "How I envy this package! You will unwrap it and eat it. I would have loved to send it to myself." The fragrance expert, or Unilever, is not going away empty-handed either. The company receives two contact details for each gift ordered. How practical.

Berlusconi TV: Report on judges provokes fierce criticism

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is making headlines again following the revocation of his criminal immunity. Canale 5, the television station he controls, aired a controversial satirical report about a judge. The report mocks Milanese judge Raimondo Mesiano.

On Sunday, criticism poured in from all sides about Thursday's
broadcast contribution. Mesiano had sentenced Berlusconi's Fininvest group to pay 750 million euros to the holding company of Carlo de Benedetti, the head of government's arch-rival, in the decades-long dispute over control of the Mondadori publishing house at the beginning of October. In the report, filmed by a novice journalist with a hidden camera, the judge is seen going to the hairdresser, chain-smoking and
Sitting on a bench. The 29-year-old, who was employed by Canale 5 on a temporary contract, provided commentary on the secretly recorded images. There is talk of the judge's extravagant behavior and, according to SDA, reference is made to Mesiano's turquoise socks in white shoes.

Last but not least: First individualized, printed daily newspaper in Germany

Recently, the two Berlin students launched a project for a personalized, printed daily newspaper. The goal is to give users the ability to compile their own personalized daily newspaper—featuring the content they want from both print and online news sources—with just a few clicks, which will then be waiting for them in their mailbox at six o’clock in the morning sharp. This is a good example of an innovative approach that could potentially set a new direction for the newspaper industry as a business model in the Internet age.

The recently launched Niiu project by the two Berlin students Hendrik Tiedemann and Wanja Sören Oberhof is the first individualized, printed daily newspaper in Germany, explains the 23-year-old project founder Oberhof in an interview with Pressetext. The difference to a similar product, which was tested for a few weeks in Switzerland, is that the launch of Niiu is not a market test, but a market entry. On the one hand, the new project aims to offer readers personally selected newspaper content that also provides background and commentary. It also aims to reflect the diversity of the Internet, which has not yet found a place in the traditional daily newspaper. New business models of this kind should not be unwelcome to the industry, which is coming under increasing pressure due to the ongoing advertising recession.
Interested parties have been able to register on the Niiu website since October 13, and the first newspaper will be delivered on November 16. A total of 17 national, regional and international newspapers such as the New York Times and content from around 500 online providers are already available at the launch, from which users can put together their own 24-page newspaper.

Media Focus: Declining advertising market in September

After a slight recovery in August, the Swiss advertising market saw a decline again in September. Compared to the same month last year, total advertising volume fell by 2.1 percent. As Media Focus reported on Friday, 395.5 million Swiss francs worth of advertising was placed in the media in September.

The market research institute observed growth in the poster, internet, specialty press and television media groups. However, the largest advertising platform comprising the daily press and regional and Sunday print media was unable to improve its position. Cinema advertising, the general, financial and business press as well as specialist publications were also unable to catch up.
Advertising expenditure clearly continues to suffer from the uncertain economic situation. CHF 2.79 billion flowed into the advertising market in the first nine months of the year, which is around 5.9% less or around CHF 177 million less than in the same period in 2008.
Household items and appliances grew by around 20% compared to the previous year, almost exclusively due to intensive advertising for detergents. Cosmetics and personal care products recorded growth of around 17%. Image advertising also improved significantly, also by 17%. Advertising pressure doubled in the political campaigns segment thanks to the referendum weekend on September 27. Financial services declined sharply at 22%. There was also a major drop of almost 20% in the beverages segment. Massively less advertising was placed for the small group of tobacco products, with advertising pressure plummeting by a good 80%.

The first free newspaper in the automotive sector, Auto Sprint CH, will be published at the beginning of November. According to initiator Stefan Donat, the newspaper will be published once a month in tabloid format with a circulation of 120,000 copies.

As Donat said on request, the new free newspaper will be produced by an eight-strong editorial team, some of whom he has known for years. The first issue will comprise 40 pages and will be published at the start of the Auto Zürich Car Show at the beginning of November. In addition to the print edition, there will also be a website.
Donat confirmed on Friday a report by the Internet media service Klein-Report about his plans. He has plenty of experience in automotive journalism
with. He worked for 12 years, until the end of September, as editorial director of Axel Springer's Auto Bild Schweiz.
The free newspaper is to be distributed in an unconventional way. All of the approximately 117,000 mailboxes of private individuals and companies will be supplied, as Donat said. In addition, industry insiders will receive targeted deliveries and, finally, AutoSprint CH can also be subscribed to.

Publicitas index fell only slightly in September

In September, the Publicitas Index of advertising spending in the daily press fell only slightly. As Publicitas explained, there was an increase in political advertisements due to referendum proposals on controversial issues, particularly the financing of the IV. With circulation figures unchanged from the previous year, the index fell from 76.4 to 75.7 points.

According to a Publicitas communiqué, the decline is therefore less than in previous months, although the uncertain economic situation continues. However, commercial advertising continues to decline. Banks and the automotive industry were extremely reluctant to advertise. Job advertisements also fell by 7.2 points to 117 points and job advertisements by 0.9 points to 58.5 points.

Google exceeds expectations with jump in profits

The internet giant Google continues to show resilience in the face of the crisis and has once again exceeded experts’ expectations with strong growth in revenue and profits in the third quarter. Net income rose by more than 27 percent to over 1.6 billion dollars. The company is thus fueling hopes for a swift end to the economic crisis. Google CEO Eric Schmidt says that the worst of the recession is behind us.

Sales increased by seven percent to around 5.9 billion dollars, as the American search engine giant announced on Thursday after the close of the US stock exchange at its headquarters in Mountain View, California. The Google share
reacted with a plus in after-hours US trading. Google is now ready to make massive investments again, emphasized Schmidt. In the past few months, the company had put the brakes on costs in the wake of the economic crisis. Unprofitable business areas have been abandoned and jobs have been cut in some areas.
The number of clicks on Google ads, for which the Internet company receives money from advertisers, rose by 14%. This figure is considered a key indicator for the company's business, as it is Google's most important source of income. Although the growth of so-called paid clicks had slowed significantly at the height of the crisis, according to Handelsblatt, the slump predicted by some industry observers did not materialize.
