Thailand: Uproar over Hitler advertising poster

A Thai billboard advertising a wax museum with a picture of Adolf Hitler has sparked outrage. Following protests by the German and Israeli ambassadors, the billboard was covered up.

The advertisement with the slogan "Hitler is not dead" was erected several weeks ago on the highway between Bangkok and Pattaya, according to 20min.ch. The motif was intended to draw attention to the opening of the wax museum planned for November. The advertisement is not the first of its kind in Thailand. Back in 1998, a Hitler figure was shown in an advertising film for potato potato chips, with the swastika turning into the product's lettering at the end.

Google goes offline for advertising

Until now, Google has primarily promoted itself online. Now, the internet giant plans to advertise its enterprise solutions offline in the future.

On the one hand, print advertising is to be placed in newspapers such as the New York Times, Forbes and The Economist. Google is also planning a large-scale poster campaign at airports and train stations in the UK, France, Canada, Japan, Australia and Singapore, according to Netzwoche.ch. Since August this year, billboards have already been used to advertise Google Apps in Chicago, New York and San Francisco.
Google Apps are business applications such as e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets, which can mainly be obtained from Google online and are in direct competition with Microsoft solutions. Beromünster: Large transmission tower placed under monument protection

The Beromünster Broadcasting Tower is being designated a historic landmark—just under a year after the Beromünster regional station ceased broadcasting on the medium-wave band. It is not yet clear whether or how the tower will be used in the future.

The canton of Lucerne's Department of Higher Education, Culture and Sport announced on Monday that the transmitter is worthy of protection due to its cultural and historical significance and its position in the history of technology. However, the question of the scope of protection was less clear: As the technical equipment has since been taken over by the Museum of Communication in Bern and is preserved there, it is not protected. This is very well guaranteed at the museum, the statement continues.
The small transmission tower is also not to be listed. According to the press release, it is "characterized by the utmost care and quality in terms of engineering and design". However, these assessments are not in proportion to the effort that would be required to preserve it. The owner, Swisscom, also requested that the small transmission tower not be protected. According to the press release, the responsible department would expressly welcome it if the buildings could be preserved and put to a new use. The head of the department, Karin Pauleweit, told the SDA news agency that no ideas for a use had yet been submitted.
