Vitamin 2 as an enabler in relationship management

The St. Gallen-based agency Vitamin 2 gave away postcards designed by artists for Christmas, choosing not to include its own branding.

It's not just Amazon and Zalando that keep the postal service busy at Christmas. At the end of the year, companies of all shapes and sizes like to send their customers a little something special. As a rule, these often pale Christmas greetings are already longer in the waste paper than on the desk on the day they are sent. The Christmas mailing from Vitamin 2, on the other hand, has a good chance of being allowed to visit one more mailbox before it reaches the end of its life: The St. Gallen-based advertising agency sent out an eight-part set of postcards under the headline "Give an important person joyful mail!", which can be individualized and sent to significant others at any time, regardless of the season.

"Being close among friends and family is the greatest happiness in life - at Christmas, after all, we all feel it particularly intensely. And it is communication that brings us closer together," say the founders René Kappeler and Jan Hasler. With the postcard set, they want to support their customers in sending a small signal to important people from their own environment and to maintain the relationship. The prefabricated messages should be thereby an inspiration or relief, a push or also only harmless conversation. In order not to disrupt the authenticity of the message, Vitamin 2 dispensed entirely with its own branding for the cards, thus remaining invisible to the recipients. The postcards were designed with images from the cultural project Ateliervisite, which Vitamin 2 runs as a platform for little-known, exciting artists and cultural workers.

Agency at the airport: Enterprise Rent-A-Car welcomes passengers

Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the world's largest car rental company, has recently begun operating in Switzerland. To boost brand awareness, the agency carried out a guerrilla marketing campaign at the airport.

Over the busy holiday period, a guerrilla campaign at Zurich, Basel and Geneva airports drew attention to Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Arriving passengers were greeted with name tags which, on closer inspection, made the car rental company's willingness to provide services clear with a wink. No expense was spared: the whimsical passenger names all exist in their individual elements.

Telebasel with new TV program, Internet portal and mobile app

After a two-year phase of strategy, planning, and implementation, the Basel-based regional broadcaster Telebasel is launching a completely revamped content offering consisting of a new TV lineup, a regional news portal, and a mobile app.

At the same time, a corporate design with a new logo will be presented and a multimedia studio with the new design will be put into operation. "We analyzed the media market in northwestern Switzerland in detail during the conception phase and it quickly became clear that we had to address a younger target group and do so in line with their media usage behavior, hence the decision: all new," says Dominik Prétôt, CEO of Telebasel.

The new core target group is families in the 30 to 50 age group with regional roots, who will be served in future with four main topics: news, sport, society and enjoyment. The main topics will be equally represented in the daily TV program and on Telebasel.ch and the iOS mobile app. The topics are researched and prepared in a newsroom that is staffed from 6.00 am to 11.00 pm.

Under the slogan "24/7 what moves the region", the editorial team produces highlights of the content on offer, such as the TV news block, daily from 6.30 pm and every half hour with weather, six news topics from the region as well as a general news overview, the major regional sports topics with FCB, Roger Federer and the winners of the region as well as a current news topic of the day. A new addition to the program is "Glam", a show about events, society and personalities, which is broadcast for the first time at 6.55 pm. On the subject of "Indulgence", one of the region's star chefs will present his recipe every Friday at 7.15 pm. The popular magazines such as "Report", "Gsund", "Diagnose" and "Reihe 8" will also be broadcast on weekdays at 7.15 p.m., as will the new "FCB Magazin".

The same structure can also be found in the online and mobile offering, in which stories are constantly available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in 32 channels ranging from "News" and "Sport" to "Glam", "Food" and other relevant topics. The high proportion of moving images on Telebasel's digital channels will certainly be unique in the regional media scene.

"Our content is always up-to-date and covers the relevant areas of the target group's information needs. It is important for us to provide comprehensive information on the topics that move the region, no matter where they happen," says Karin Müller, Editor-in-Chief of Telebasel. "We are all looking forward to January 28, when we can finally hand over the new service to viewers and users," continues Müller. The online portal on Telebasel.ch will be launched on January 28, 2016 at 6 a.m. and the new TV program on the same day at 6.30 p.m.

Futurecom: New Geberit Intranet

Futurecom and Wunderman PXP are implementing a contemporary and personalized communication and collaboration platform with portal character for Geberit based on Sharepoint Online.

As part of the strategic focus on cloud services, the old Geberit intranet was to be transferred to the cloud with a new portal based on Sharepoint Online. In addition, the acquisition of the Sanitec Group meant that the existing Geberit intranet had to be replaced along with that of the Sanitec Group. The new Geberit intranet is intended to be a personalized information, collaboration and exchange platform for all employees worldwide. Particularly during the Sanitec integration phase, the new, shared intranet is intended to promote identification with the company. In the long term, the portal should help to increase efficiency.

After a comprehensive needs and situation analysis, Futurecom and Wunderman PXP developed a detailed concept with the requirements for the new intranet. Based on this, Futurecom developed the design in iteration steps. The responsive design allows employees to access all content on the intranet, regardless of whether they are accessing the content on a mobile device or a computer. The development of the portal solution was implemented using agile project methodology in close collaboration with Wunderman PXP and the Geberit project team.

With the new solution, Geberit Corporate Communication has a modern intranet in responsive design and delivers personalized content for its approximately 12'000 employees. Through SharePoint Online, the solution fits seamlessly into Geberit's Office 365 strategy. After the release in November 2015, the services will be continuously expanded to realize a complete integration of all work areas (e-mail, calendar and collaboration tools).

Responsible at Geberit: Roman Sidler (Head Corporate Communications & Investor Relations), Cédric Baumgartner (Manager Online Communications), Luzia Troxler (Online Communications), André Krumm (IT Manager Web+ECM), Robert Holmberg (IT Manager Web+ECM). Special issue of Charlie Hebdo with God as terrorist on sale

God as a Murderer: One year after the Islamist terrorist attack on its editorial office, Charlie Hebdo has published a special edition with a provocative cover. It shows a blood-stained God running away with a Kalashnikov.

The headline reads: "One year on: The murderer is still on the run". The Vatican criticized the front page of the weekly newspaper, which went on sale in a large print run on Wednesday. "At Charlie, we are questioning the very idea of God," Charlie Hebdo boss Riss told the AFP news agency, referring to the front page. "Expressing things clearly makes people think. You have to shake people up a bit, otherwise they will always stay in the same rut." "Charlie has to be where the others don't dare to go," said Riss, who himself was seriously injured in the attack on January 7, 2015. "Charlie has always been a newspaper of struggle, but a funny, crazy struggle."

The Last Supper

In the 32-page special edition, which hit the newsstands with a print run of one million, the cartoonists and journalists of Charlie Hebdo take a look at the Attack on January 7 one. In one caricature, the Charlie Hebdo editorial team is drawn like in Leonardo da Vinci's famous "Last Supper" painting. Charb, who was killed in the attack, takes the place of Jesus and says: "In truth, I tell you, we'll be laughing our heads off together for a long time to come." Celebrities such as actresses Juliette Binoche and Isabelle Adjani expressed their solidarity with the satirical newspaper in articles. Older cartoons by Charb and the other cartoonists killed in the attack, Cabu, Honoré, Tignous and Wolinski, were also printed. "We think about them all the time," said Riss. However, there was no rush on the newsstands like there was for the issue that was published a week after the attack. At that time, almost eight million copies had been sold, a record in French press history.

"Genuine blasphemy"

The Vatican newspaper Osservatore Romano criticized in a commentary that Charlie Hebdo's front page offended the feelings of believers regardless of their religion. Behind the "deceptive banner of uncompromising secularism", the satirical newspaper once again forgets that religious leaders, regardless of their faith, repeatedly call for violence to be condemned in the name of religion. "Using God to justify hatred is real blasphemy, as Pope Francis has said several times." The heavily armed Islamists Said and Chérif Kouachi killed twelve people in the attack on the editorial office of the satirical newspaper known for its Muhammad cartoons. In the following two days, an acquaintance of the attackers shot dead a municipal policewoman and four other people during a hostage-taking in a Jewish supermarket. (SDA)

140 characters on Twitter soon a thing of the past?

Twitter apparently plans to remove the 140-character limit on tweets. The new limit is reportedly set to be 10,000 characters.

On Tuesday, for example, co-founder and chief executive Jack Dorsey advocated allowing longer messages. This, although the 140-character limit encouraged users to be short and creative. Nevertheless, it is a need of many users to be able to upload longer texts, which happens today as a fallback solution by means of screenshots. Dorsey also published his remarks in this way for visualization.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the limit will be raised to 10'000 characters - the same limit that currently applies to private messages between Twitter users. In the feed, however, only the first 140 characters are to continue to be displayed - the rest can be opened if required. The 10,000-character limit is also predicted by the well-informed tech blog Recode. With the changes, Twitter wants to become more attractive for newcomers and thus give new impetus to its stalled growth. (hae)

New online service sends "eggs"

Donateballs.com was launched on January 4, 2016 and offers an unusual service: Eggs can be donated to people who lack courage. A Zurich-based advertiser is behind the project.

The recipient receives two water balloons, string and a letter congratulating them on their new courage. "The idea came about because in many industries it's all about hedging and minimizing risk, driven by a despondent unwillingness to make decisions. Very few people really want to get things moving, but they like to pretend they do," says Donateballs.com-initiator Parvez Sheik Fareed. The advertiser, who works for the Zurich-based Y&R Group, emphasizes that the project is a self-initiative without any agency involvement.

Catherine Duttweiler becomes editor-in-chief of the Coopzeitung newspaper

Catherine Duttweiler takes over as editor-in-chief of the Coopzeitung on April 1. She succeeds Christian Degen, who moved to Basler Tageswoche at the beginning of the year.

The deputy editor-in-chief of the Coop newspaper, Nicole Hättenschwiler, confirmed corresponding reports from Kleinreport.ch and Persoenlich.com on Wednesday. Until Duttweiler takes up her position, Hättenschwiler is editor-in-chief ad interim. Duttweiler has been Head of Communications at the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) for around a year. She previously held the same position at the Berner Kantonalbank (BEKB). Before moving into communications, Duttweiler worked as a journalist, most recently as editor-in-chief of the Bieler Tagblatt. As a correspondent for the Swiss parliament and in a managerial role, she worked for the Sonntagszeitung, Facts magazine and the Basler Zeitung, among others. She also became known as a book author. Last but not least: In the back

Wuppertal's municipal utility company, WSW, has surprised everyone with a campaign against fare evasion—and a level of ambiguity that even the Young CVP Zurich can only dream of.

Recently, passengers on WSW buses have to board at the front. This measure is intended to make life difficult for fare evaders. And make bus travel fairer for all passengers. Sounds plausible. To communicate the new rule, the WSW has conjured up a campaign that even our friends from the Junge CVP Zürich (Werbewoche.ch reported) can hold a candle to them. Yikes!

The official slogan of the campaign according to Wsw-online.com: "Get in front!". Also the labeling of the buses is completely boy-free with: "Now it's time to go to the front!

When asked, Holger Stephan, Head of Corporate Communications WSW, tells Werbewoche.ch that the campaign was designed "with an agency and a wink". And further: "The fact that there are such massive reactions in part surprised us, especially since the ambiguity arises in the mind of the viewer." That's actually true. What were YOU thinking again? (hae)
