Federal Office for Agriculture promotes quality strategy
The Federal Office of Agriculture plans to address the upcoming reforms in the agricultural sector with a market initiative. To that end, it presented the main points of a quality strategy on Friday.
For communication purposes, the Confederation has already had a graphic line legally protected that is visually based on the Switzerland Tourism graphic. The slogan "Switzerland. Naturally." placed on a red bar could be used to label all Swiss food products in the future. Other labels such as AOC/IPG or the organic label would then be added.
Nothing has been decided. As the Director of the Federal Office for Agriculture (FONA), Manfred Bötsch, emphasized several times, the further development of the quality strategy is an open process. His federal office has the lead, he said. However, everyone involved in the value chain must contribute, from producers and sector organizations to the food industry, gastronomy, tourism and consumer associations.

ADC Young Creatives Award 2009 : The winners have been announced
This year, the ADC organized the Young Creatives Award for the third time. After Migros last year, McDonald's was once again a top brand as the main sponsor and task sponsor this year.
Despite tight budgets everywhere, the ADC was pleased to have retained other important sponsors such as APG, Condor Films, Swissfilm Association, London International Awards, 20 Minuten, Persönlich, Werbewoche and Bsw Swiss Leading Agencies, according to a press release. The number of entries also remained almost constant at 75. Of these, 29 were in the Poster category, 21 in Alternative Media, 18 in Film and 7 in the Cyber category. The jury, consisting of well-known ADC stars from almost all the major agencies, had to evaluate ideas that advertise the McDonald's Good and Cheap line. Either the entire line with all its products. Or individual products from it. In the end, 15 entries made it onto the shortlist: four film, five poster, two cyber and four alternative media concepts.
The jury selected three winning works. Two came from the Film category, one from Alternative Media. The jury did not award a prize in the Poster category. The winning teams will represent Switzerland in Cannes in 2010.
1st winner in the Film category
Work "Drive-in Rap"
Daniel Gremli and
Patrick Ryffel
2nd winner in the Film category
Work "Soup"
Seung-yun Oh and
Natascha Beller
3rd winner in the Alternative Media category
Coin glue" work
Bettina Klossner and
Laurie Morard
"Drive-in Rap" by Daniel Gremli and Patrick Ryffel was also awarded the main prize and is the only work to be submitted to the ADC of Europe in the Young Creatives category.
According to the unanimous verdict of the jury, this work in no way needs to shy away from European comparison. The ADC's verdict on this year's competition was also positive throughout. The quality of the work was high in all categories. The only criticism is still the quantity of entries in the field of new media. However, this is a minor fly in the ointment, which in no way dampened the mood at the awards ceremony at the Mascotte.

Competition Commission fines Swisscom 220 million francs
The Competition Commission (ComCo) fines Swisscom CHF 220 million for abusive pricing of broadband services. Swisscom rejects the accusations and intends to contest the ruling.
The Competition Commission is of the opinion that Swisscom holds a dominant position in the broadband market and charged excessively high prices for DSL wholesale services (Broadband Connectivity Service, BBCS for short) until the end of 2007. It accuses the company that the margin between Swisscom's BBCS wholesale service and the retail prices for DSL broadband offers was too small and that competitors were therefore unable to operate their DSL business profitably. Accordingly, Swisscom had impeded its competitors in a manner contrary to antitrust law. On the basis of these allegations, the Competition Commission is imposing a fine of around CHF 220 million on Swisscom, thereby largely following the proposal submitted by its Secretariat on November 12, 2008.
Swisscom files an appeal with the Federal Administrative Court
Swisscom rejects the accusations and considers the sanction imposed to be unjustified, as it wrote in a press release on Thursday. In Switzerland, there is intense infrastructure competition with the various cable networks, the latest mobile networks and future fiber optic networks. According to the OECD, this leads to the fourth-highest market penetration worldwide. The Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) has also noted that broadband prices for average usage requirements fell by more than a third between 2001 and 2008. The unbundling introduced in April 2007 has also stimulated competition. Swisscom has also proven that it can operate the DSL end-customer business profitably. There can therefore be no question of the margin being too small. The press release also states that the company disputed the Competition Commission's authority to impose fines in the proceedings on mobile termination prices. This legal issue is pending before the Federal Administrative Court as the highest instance of the Competition Commission. Swisscom had therefore requested the Competition Commission to suspend the DSL proceedings. "Swisscom is therefore very surprised that the Competition Commission has not waited for the forthcoming landmark decision of the court and has imposed a further sanction against Swisscom despite the unclear legal situation."
Given this starting position, Swisscom feels compelled to file an appeal with the Federal Administrative Court in these proceedings as well. "The company considers its chances in the appeal proceedings to be intact and is therefore not making any provisions according to current estimates."
Sunrise and the Foundation for Consumer Protection take a stand
Competitor Sunrise also criticized the fact that the first antitrust investigation began over seven years ago. The ADSL market had developed to maturity in the meantime. A large number of providers (such as Tiscali, Cybernet, Easynet, Econophone) had already disappeared. According to Sunrise, this confirms that there are inadequate competitive conditions in Switzerland. A revision of the Telecommunications Act is unavoidable. In particular, discrimination in the future fiber optic network must be prevented from the outset, Sunrise demanded.
The Stiftung für Konsumentenschutz (Foundation for Consumer Protection) has taken the same line: the proceedings show that the Federal Communications Commission (ComCom) urgently needs to be strengthened. The authority should be able to intervene on its own initiative and order a price reduction. A motion for the corresponding partial revision of the Telecommunications Act had only been adopted by the Council of States. This means that there is still a risk that consumers will have to pay too much for years to come. Accordingly, the CHF 220 million that Swisscom has to pay as a fine also belongs to consumers. However, the sum will trickle away into the federal coffers.

Otto secures rights to the Quelle brand
The Hamburg-based mail-order giant Otto has secured the rights to the Quelle brand and several private labels, such as Privileg, as well as all shares in Quelle Russia.
The parties signed the purchase agreement on Thursday morning following the approval of the creditors' committee of the Arcandor Group companies, as Horizont.net writes. The parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Otto prevailed against almost a dozen competitors in the bidding dispute for the brand rights. The takeover must now be approved by the Cartel Office.
However, the purchase agreement does not include the Küchen Quelle and Foto-Quelle brands. In addition, the insolvency administrators are still looking for buyers for the call center, the Profectis customer service and the HSE 24 home shopping channel.

Rupert Murdoch: "Encouraging trends"
The U.S. media conglomerate News Corporation has continued to emerge from its crisis, thanks in part to its box-office hit *Ice Age 3*. Its U.S. rivals, Viacom and Time Warner, are also reporting a more favorable outlook.
Rupert Murdoch sees "encouraging trends" for the company he controls in most business areas, as reported by SDA on Thursday. On the downside of his empire, however, was once again the struggling newspaper business. On the bottom line, News Corp. earned 571 million dollars in its first quarter ended September - eleven percent more than a year earlier.
US rivals Viacom (MTV, Paramount) and Time Warner (CNN, Warner Brothers) are also talking about a more favorable outlook. Many believe that a turnaround in parts of the media industry is possible or has already been achieved. Walt Disney will present its figures next week.

Saatchi & Saatchi: Campaign for Baboo Flystyle realized
Saatchi & Saatchi has developed a campaign for Baboo. In doing so, the agency has carved out a new niche for the Geneva-based airline between low-cost carriers and the major established airlines: upgrades for everyone.
Strategically, Saatchi & Saatchi has found a new niche for Baboo between the low-cost airlines and the large established airlines, according to the press release. It is called Upgrading for everyone. Those who choose Baboo can afford a stylish upgrade even on short-haul flights, of course without grounding their wallets.
Saatchi & Saatchi chose Geneva-based illustrator Exem for the realization. Exem has developed hidden object pictures full of humorous details for destinations such as Italy, London and Geneva. With all kinds of references to comix and films. Chess enthusiasts, for example, will notice that a game is played from subject to subject.
These illustrations can be used flexibly, whether on advertisements, posters or in the online world. There are also guerrilla campaigns: If you sit on one of the extremely comfortable leather chairs that Saatchi & Saatchi has installed for Baboo in the public Geneva streetcar, you can be treated to a free newspaper, drinks and snacks by a hostess.
Responsible at Baboo: Jacques Bankir (CEO), Philippe Wilmart (Chief Commercial Officer), Simona Sommariva (Marketing Communication Manager), Nilufer Gumus (PR manager). Responsible at Saatchi & Saatchi : Derek Green (Chief Creative Officer), Jean-François Fournon (Creative Director), Isabelle Carvalho/Daniel Lunn (Creation), Philippe Meyer, Thijs Hoogenboom (Consulting), Pascal Schaub (Strategy), Tania Retchisky (Art Buying), Exem (Illustrator).

Runway West: A different kind of election poster
For the school board elections in Arlesheim, Startbahnwest has created an election poster for the candidate Nathalie Miller Lanz from the independent green group Frischluft.
In keeping with the school council election, the candidate was quickly integrated into children's drawings created by Startbahnwest. The idea behind this is that the candidate knows her way around the world of children and young people, understands their concerns and wishes. And therefore also knows what is best for the schoolchildren.
F4 and F12 posters, postcards and flyers were produced.

Matter & Gretener: Advertising for successful advertising realized
The Matter & Gretener agency has developed a branding campaign for the Thalwil-based company MT Plakatdruck.
MT Plakatdruck not only ensures first-class print quality - which is a matter of course for a poster printer, say the two managing directors Markus von Burg and Thomas Lorenz. Instead, the company aims to support its customers, the majority of whom come from the retail sector, in realizing a successful POS campaign with punctuality, delivery reliability and, above all, thinking along with them.
This is precisely the point of the image campaign developed by Matter & Gretener for MT Plakatdruck, according to a press release from the agency. The idea: a client's POS campaign was so convincing thanks to the collaboration with MT Plakatdruck that a customer bought the advertised product by the dozen.

Edi.09: The winners
On Thursday evening, the gala for the 10th Edi Competition in Swiss film history took place at the Schiffbau in Zurich. Sixteen of the nearly 300 entries were honored.
The submitted productions are judged in each category by independent juries consisting of experts from the film, client and advertising industries. The most important assessment criterion is the audiovisually convincing realization of the communication brief. The script, direction, image, sound and editing must form an artistic unit that does justice to the content conveyed and implements the client's brief for the production in a meaningful way.
The juries view all the productions submitted and nominate a shortlist in a first round of judging. In a second round of judging, the juries award an Edi. to the three best productions. An additional expert jury, consisting of specialists from the film industry, will select all shortlisted nominated films and award special Edi's in individual film disciplines.

Corrigenda laudation (category Television: Trailers for TV stations and programs)
Music Star Trailer - Silver Edi. for overall performance
Laudation: For the extremely cleanly realized production, especially in post-production. For a trailer that shows a wide range of emotions in a short space of time, that demonstrates that there can be both winners and losers. For a film that was produced with the target group in mind.
