Tamedia brings Danish mobile flea market Tradono to Switzerland

Tamedia has acquired a 25 percent minority stake in the Danish mobile marketplace Tradono. Through a joint venture, the media group and the Copenhagen-based startup are launching the mobile marketplace in Switzerland.

Tradono was founded in Denmark in 2014 and has been growing strongly ever since. The marketplace pursues a consistent mobile-first strategy and is closely linked to social media channels, which increases the reach of the ads. Users log in via Facebook account and can easily and efficiently sell their no longer used clothes, shoes, toys, sofas and much more via mobile. Interested buyers can browse for bargains in various categories in their immediate vicinity. All users upload a profile picture, which strengthens mutual trust between buyers and sellers. The apps for iPhone and Android are now available for download in German and French in the respective app stores.

Christoph Brand, Head of Digital at Tamedia, in a statement on the investment in Tradono: "We are delighted that with Tradono we are bringing a mobile flea market to Switzerland that appeals to a very young and urban target group. This is the ideal complement to our classifieds portal Tutti.ch, which is the market leader in German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino."

Patrick Biehle will be the managing director of Tradono's new joint venture in Switzerland. The 34-year-old joins the start-up from Saxo Bank, where he had been working as deputy sales manager since 2011. In 2008, the economic and environmental scientist founded the online portal for wine trade Winexpress.ch, which he sold to Weinkellereien Aarau in 2011. Patrick Biehle is responsible for building a team, adapting the apps and the portal to Switzerland, and accompanying marketing measures.

With the help of Zulu Alpha Kilo, Canada is once again trying to lure the children away from the screens.

Participaction is a Canadian organization that aims to promote exercise and sporting activity among the population. The need for action seems to be particularly great among children, who prefer to spend their time in front of screens instead of playing in the real world. In Switzerland, by the way, these problems do not seem to be as dramatic as they appear. a study last September showed that the touchscreen generation is a myhtos, the ZHAW revealed. The conclusion was that children and young people prefer games and sport to screens. Even if everyday life sometimes gives a slightly different impression - a study is a study.

In Canada, the problem is being tackled with the help of a campaign created by Zulu Alpha Kilo. Another emoji campaign - but a good one. With emoji credentials and all.

Incidentally, the agency has already implemented last year's very successful campaign for the organization - including the beautiful request "Don't visit our website". (hae)

Four..: Privera gets a new brand identity

The agency Four. has developed a new brand strategy and a comprehensive rebranding for the independent Swiss real estate service provider Privera.

In a strategic process, the brand values of responsibility, excellence and innovation were redefined in close cooperation with Four. The "Höngger" in a new look

The Höngger Quartierzeitung has switched to tabloid format as of January 14 and appears in a new layout.

In the reader survey conducted by the local newspaper on the occasion of the Höngger-Wümmetfäscht last fall, 50 percent were in favor of switching to the tabloid format. According to the press release, 30 percent said that it didn't matter to them and 20 percent were against it. Naturally, the Höngger publishing house hopes that these 20 percent of readers will also be happy with the change. In any case, the publisher has dared to make the change, not least because it also wants to publish the new Wipkinger Zeitung in the same format at the end of March. This will then be published in a large print run together with the "Höngger" and, in addition to all households in Höngg, will also be distributed free of charge to all letterboxes in Zurich-Wipkingen.

As part of the format change, the layout has of course also been refreshed. The pages, which are often separated into advertising pages and editorial pages, have a tidy appearance and are advertiser and reader-friendly. The latest issue is available as a PDF at Hoengger.ch

Spiess-Hegglin displays Philipp Gut

The Zug sex affair is still rumbling on. As has now become known, Zug cantonal councillor Jolanda Spiess-Hegglin has reported the deputy editor-in-chief of Weltwoche to the Zurich public prosecutor's office for defamation offenses.

She is complaining about an article from last September. It is about a criminal offense against honor, Spiess-Hegglin confirmed to the news agency SDA on Sunday a report of the NZZ am Sonntag. "Whether the criminal offense is rather defamation or defamation, the public prosecutor's office should clarify," said the Zug cantonal councilwoman. Specifically, it is about the article "The fatal consequences of a misstep" published in the weekly newspaper on September 29. There, author Philipp Gut had written, among other things, that Spiess-Hegglin had "planned to falsely accuse" SVP cantonal councilor Markus Hürlimann. In doing so, the author made himself liable to prosecution, said Spiess-Hegglin.

New to the Pirates

The politician has been making headlines for over a year. The morning after the Landammann celebration in December 2014, she went to the hospital with no memory of the previous evening and with abdominal pain, according to her own statements. Her canton council colleague Markus Hürlimann (SVP) then came under suspicion of having made her compliant with knockout drops. Hürlimann had always denied this. There had been a rapprochement, but it had been consensual. Legally, the affair is closed. The criminal proceedings against the SVP politician were dropped last September. Spiess-Hegglin is now a politician with the Pirate Party of Central Switzerland, as she announced a week ago. The former cantonal councilor of the Alternatives/the Greens had declared her party resignation at the end of December. The events around her person had also burdened the party very much, she justified her decision. (SDA)

IAB Academy and the HWZ: Digital Marketing Training for Executives

The IAB Academy and the HWZ University of Applied Sciences Zurich are expanding their existing partnership and launching a continuing education program in digital marketing for executives.

As generalists, managers are also required to make decisions on new and sometimes complex topics in the field of digital marketing. With a compact training program of four modules over four mornings, industry experts provide practical insights into the world of digital advertising. The IAB Academy lays the foundation with the basic program "Digital Marketing Trends compact - intensive course for decision-makers". The course takes into account the tight time budget of managers and therefore takes place each morning from 8.00 - 11.00 a.m. at the centrally located HWZ University of Applied Sciences in Business Administration Zurich. The course focuses on trends in website marketing, programmatic advertising, successful concepts in digital marketing such as video advertising or content marketing as well as mobile marketing. The course costs CHF 800 and will be offered three times in 2016.

At the HWZ School of Business, which itself offers challenging seminars (e.g. digital change) as well as certificate and master's courses in digital business, this course is part of the newly launched Executive Academy. Its director, Cyril Meier, is convinced that continuous professional development is essential for managers in today's rapidly digitalizing world of work. He sees the cooperation with the industry association IAB Switzerland as a good opportunity to make the know-how of both partners in digital marketing optimally accessible to companies and organizations.

The IAB Academy specializes in basic training in digital marketing and is now in its fifth year of running its ever-expanding programme. Thanks to the support of numerous partner companies, it is able to offer its program at a reasonable price. Further information and the registration forms can be found at Iab-academy.ch

Gilli: "Experiment failed"

Tele Top is struggling with declining viewership. Because it must comply with licensing requirements, not all viewer requests can be accommodated. Markus Gilli, editor-in-chief of Tele-Züri, believes that the licensing decision at the time was a mistake.

"Tele Top in crisis" is the headline of the current issue of Schweiz am Sonntag. The newspaper - like Tele Züri - belongs to AZ Medien (noted in the article). Tele Züri came away empty-handed in 2008 when the concession was awarded, while Tele Top was given the go-ahead by the Federal Council for the Zurich/Northeastern Switzerland region. The station will now receive CHF 1.9 million from the fee pot. In return, it must provide basic editorial services for the cantons of Zurich, Thurgau and Schaffhausen.

Markus Gilli, editor-in-chief of Tele Züri, considers "the experiment a failure. Tele Top had started out in 2008 with the claim to be the television for Zurich and northeastern Switzerland, and had thus received the support of the Zurich government council and city council. This intention, says Gilli, has largely vanished into thin air - today, the then blinded government council would clearly opt for Tele Züri. Also because Tele Züri is no longer part of the market power Tamedia.

While Tele Top today reaches only 20,000 viewers in the license area, five times as many people tune in to Tele Züri every day. Tele Top Managing Director Günter Heuberger sees the reasons for the lack of and declining viewer interest - based on his own and Bakom studies - in the gap between the fulfillment of the performance mandate and the wishes of the viewers. For example, viewers want more tabloid - instead of the overweighting of politics, business, society and sports. However, since advertising revenues increased by 14 percent in 2015, Heuberger believes the response is higher than the Mediapulse figures indicate. This is also reflected in the usage analyses of mobile, social media and online.

Difficult times for regional TV stations

But it's not just Tele Top that's struggling with a loss of viewers. Tele M1 and Tele Bärn, which belong to the AZ broadcasting family, are also struggling with falling audience figures. According to a Bakom spokeswoman, regional TV stations are "generally in a financially difficult situation" - due to structural change in the media industry and changing user behavior. Schweiz am Sonntag also cites as a possible reason the fact that UPC has shifted the stations to rear program positions, while Tele Züri is prominently represented at No. 8.

For Gilli, it is clear that Tele Züri must be taken into account in the next concession award, as it provides public service on a daily basis and is "very well anchored". The audience ratings are irrelevant from the point of view of the licensing authority - according to Bakom, however, it is "desirable" that regional service public offerings are used. Competitors get on their nerves about Lidl advertising

The fact that Lidl Switzerland is using the «Retailer of the Year» award in its advertising is met with little understanding from its competitors.

The stumbling block is an award that Lidl is currently using to advertise on all channels: The discounter adorns its advertisements, website and brochures with the logo "Retailer of The Year Switzerland", category "Food". As Schweiz am Sonntag writes in its current issue, this title is causing the majority of competitors to shake their heads.

At Volg, they do not know whether they themselves were even on the ballot and do not know the responsible organization. Denner has also never been contacted and therefore questions the representativeness. Manor states that it does not make use of this "PR tool" - the winner is the one who motivates the most customers to participate. Lidl confirms that it has motivated its customers to participate via its website and Facebook. Aldi, the main competitor, describes the entire procedure as "non-transparent"; voting results, for example, were not communicated even upon request.

As the Dutch survey company "Retailer of the Year" confirmed to Schweiz am Sonntag, just 380 ratings are enough for first place in the online vote, provided the retailer receives the best grade average. Lidl pays a user fee of 12'000 euros for advertising with the title "Retailer of the Year." (hae/Switzerland am Sonntag)

Energy knocks Radio 24 off its throne

According to the Sonntagszeitung, Radio 24, Switzerland's oldest private radio station, has lost its title as Switzerland's private radio station with the widest reach for the first time in its 32-year history.

The newspaper bases this on the as yet unpublished listener figures published this week by Mediapulse. According to these figures, Radio 24 reached just under 275,000 people from Monday to Friday in the second half of 2015, while Energy, the competitor from Ringier, has around 286,000 listeners. The station has belonged to AZ Medien since 2011. (hae/Sonntagszeitung)

Last but not least: Off to the pokey

To deter potential sex tourists, an NPO in Costa Rica «took over» Airbnb and came up with «Jailbnb.» The guerrilla campaign didn’t last long, but it caused quite a stir.

50,000 sex tourists visit Costa Rica every year. Prostitution would actually be legal in the Central American country. However, many of the uninvited visitors deliberately seek out underage prostitutes. In Costa Rica, this can easily land you behind bars for life. This is a fact that potential sex tourists should be aware of - and should ideally be deterred from the planned unspeakable act. Leo Burnett Costa Rica has therefore come up with an effective guerrilla campaign for Fundacion Rahab. The agency registered and described La Reforma prison as accommodation on the Airbnb.com platform. There is talk of a simple and isolated place with 24-hour surveillance - for tourists who are prepared to share their bathroom with dozens of people. "If you are thinking about visiting Costa Rica with the purpose of paying for sex with underage people you could stay in this place for years or forever since this is a felony under Costa Rica's law", the text goes on to warn. If the case movie is to be believed, tourists who know the inglorious accommodation from the inside have written reviews.

The "fun" only lasted a short time: the uninitiated Airbnb platform deleted the prison from its catalog just a few days after it went live. However, the time was enough to attract a lot of attention in the mass and social media - goal achieved. (hae)

Netflix restricts access to programming from other countries

The online video service Netflix restricts its users' access to movies and TV shows from other countries. Netflix must negotiate the rights to programming for different regions individually, which is why the selection varies, sometimes significantly, from country to country.

Some customers get around this by using VPN services (Virtual Private Network), for example, which make Netflix think that the user is from another country. The program from the US offer is especially popular. Now Netflix announced that access via such services will be blocked in the coming weeks. Users will then only be able to watch programming from their actual country of origin. While the goal remains for customers in all countries to be able to watch the same movies and series, it said in a blog post late Thursday. But there is still a long way to go.

Available in 190 countries

Netflix was launched in 130 more countries in one fell swoop last week. The service is now available in a total of 190 countries. The only relevant market missing so far is China. Some Chinese have also been able to access Netflix via VPN services, and the company recently added Chinese-language programs to its lineup. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has often said that the international rights network is very tangled and that this is one of the reasons why the service is increasingly focusing on producing its own films and series. Netflix could then show this content everywhere at the same time. (SDA)
