Alpha 245: Merry Christmas on all roads

Shortly before Christmas, Jeep promoted its strengths in the snow with a poster campaign created by Alpha 245.

The idea behind the motif: the tire track in the snow suggests a Christmas tree. Alongside it, quotes from classic Christmas songs praise the winter suitability of the 4×4 icon from America - and wish the whole of Switzerland a Merry Christmas.

Last but not least: Hot sweepers

A Mitsubishi print campaign created by the Montreal-based agency John St. demonstrates how to effectively promote a car with heated windshield wipers.

The first thing to bear in mind is that there are now apparently cars with heated windshield wipers. There are certainly good reasons for this technical innovation. Even if the windshield is actually sufficiently heated from the inside and experience has shown that even frozen wiper blades can be revived after a short time. At least in Switzerland - in Canadian temperature and snow conditions, things probably look different again. However, it's all about the campaign - and we like it. Buses and advertising flyers are getting the shaft - that should actually be enough reason for the heated wipers. (hae)

Hungary's state television shows false images of Cologne attacks

On Tuesday, Hungarian state television falsely passed off images of sexual violence against women in Cairo as scenes from New Year's Eve in Cologne.

The news report with the false attribution of these images was still on the website of Hungarian television on Wednesday. Under the title "Shocking footage of the sexual assaults in Cologne", the Hungarian television news channel M1 broadcast a YouTube video several times on Tuesday. The video was made in 2012 when a mob of young men attacked and sexually harassed a Danish tourist on Tahrir Square in the Egyptian capital. The Hungarian media blog Comment.blog.hu spoke of a "fake news story". From the date alone on which the video was uploaded, it was clear that it could not have been made last New Year's Eve.

The public media in Hungary are strictly controlled by the right-wing conservative government. They are practically a mouthpiece for the policies of head of government Viktor Orban and do not shy away from falsification. Orban has sealed off his country with fences against refugees. He uses xenophobic rhetoric to criticize Germany's open attitude towards refugees. (SDA)
