Whatsapp abolishes subscription payment

Under Facebook's umbrella, the messaging service WhatsApp is eliminating its annual subscription fee of one dollar.

"The acquisition has allowed us to focus on growth and not think about making money," co-founder Jan Koum said Monday at the DLD Internet conference in Munich. Whatsapp wants to be more involved in communications between businesses and consumers in the future, he said, referring to a possible future business model. The service has more than 900 million users worldwide, up from around 450 million when it was acquired by Facebook. The deal with Facebook, he said, has allowed Whatsapp to use the infrastructure of the world's largest online network - for example, in launching voice telephony, which would otherwise have required many of its own resources. At the same time, WhatsApp has largely been able to retain its independence, Koum emphasized. For example, software development continues to run on its own platform, he said. (SDA)

"Giacobbo/Müller" only until the end of 2016

Viktor Giacobbo and Mike Müller will wrap up their show «Giacobbo/Müller» at the end of 2016. The two hosts will be focusing on other projects in the future, as Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) announced on Monday.

"Of course we regret Viktor and Mike's decision very much, but we thank them sincerely for their extraordinary performance," the SRF media release quotes Rolf Tschäppet, head of comedy and quiz. "Giacobbo/Mueller" has been extremely successful throughout its run. The show has been running on Sunday evenings since January 2008. To explain his withdrawal, Viktor Giacobbo writes: "Since I learned that President Schneider-Ammann doesn't watch our show, it all no longer makes sense to me." And Mike Müller: "I'm looking forward to finally being able to spend more time with Viktor after the end of the show." There are still two seasons left until the satirical show ends. The first will start on January 24. (SDA)

Penthouse discontinues print edition

The men's magazine Penthouse is shifting its focus to the digital edition and, after nearly 40 years, is discontinuing its print edition in the United States.

According to Kontakter.de and CNBC existing print subscriptions will be converted to digital subscriptions. Subscribers will be informed of this in the coming weeks. At the same time, the magazine is closing its office in New York and relocating all US activities to its headquarters in Los Angeles.

Penthouse was founded in the UK in 1965 by American Bob Guccione, who died in 2010, and launched as a US edition in 1969. While this had a circulation of millions in its heyday, in 2012 there were still just over 100,000 issues. The German licensed edition, launched in 1980 and discontinued several times in the meantime, has been published by an Austrian publisher since 2010. (hae)

SNK: Natural lightness staged for Bauwerk Parquet

For Bauwerk’s appearance at Swissbau 2016, SNK is designing a minimalist yet naturally playful stage that showcases the new «Flow Edition» product to its best advantage.

The focus of the Bauwerk stand at Swissbau 2016 in Basel was the new Flow Edition product. Inspired by cast floors but with all the qualities of real wood parquet, this floor conveys industrial reduction and natural warmth at the same time. Three real tree trunks over four meters high and floating, cocoon-like relaxation swings bring these contrasts playfully to the point and lend the exhibition stand a touch of Zen. The Flow Edition concept emphasizes space and area in an unconventional way while remaining reduced and unobtrusive. As with all of Bauwerk's trade fair appearances, the aim was also to present the Bauwerk brand and its products in a surprising, inspiring and contemporary way across the entire stand area.

A central project requirement was the GoLive date. The use of Neos CMS and the resulting parallel work of the developers, designers and content managers significantly accelerated the turnaround time of the project.

Towards new horizons

Nicole Trasatti worked in marketing communications and brand management for 25 years before starting her own business as a consultant two years ago.

For 15 years she was co-owner of the agency Lang Gysi Knoll/Neue LGK, now she has taken over the management of the Bernese design agency Noord.

At the end of 2014, Trasatti participated in a CAS for brand management at HSLU, working on a thesis about the Circus Knie brand. "This brand works as a tradition," Trasatti said, "thedifferent anchors consist of childhood memories, like the smell of popcorn, the acrobatics, the tent or the horses with their smells and sounds." Such recognition features are what make up the Knie brand. These traditional values of a brand, longevity and longevity are exactly what fascinate Trasatti. "Most make the mistake in branding of repositioning themselves far too soon without staying true to their roots." Other traditional Swiss brands, such as Swiss Post or SBB, have managed to communicate in a self-similar way for many years while still constantly updating their appearance. Where one could start, on the other hand, is in the design of train stations and, in keeping with the motto "At home on the way," improve the well-being of passengers when they get off the train. Now a new time has come for Trasatti - she doesn't see her life as a stringent career path and so she has now ventured into a new project; Noord. The agency combines two aspects that were fundamentally important to her when she decided to break away from self-employment: Design competence and creativity, as well as a good small team that is fun to work with.

"Experience in motion"

Trasatti took over as managing director at Noord after it became clear to her that she wanted to work in a team again. Going back to a traditional advertising agency was not an option for her, at least in terms of the often short-term mindset. She is more suited to dealing with long-term brand management. "Fast-moving communication hasn't fascinated me for a long time," she says. Rather, she says, she has always been more interested in the strategic background. "I'm fascinated by digging deep into what's actually happening and dealing with the fundamental assumptions of the brand - such as the customer's perspective and the company's history," Trasatti says. She needs solid foundations in order to deal with a topic in depth. So she soon became interested in brand management rather than developing short-term measures, she says. "That simply has to do with her own preferences," she adds. After many years in advertising, this preference of hers led her to drop out and start her own business as a consultant in brand management and brand communication. "That gave me back my passion," she says looking back. However, the origin for this step was the following thought: "To help companies make better briefings," says Trasatti. After all, brand communication starts much earlier than the implementation of measures that correspond exclusively to the management view. "Why does a company exist at all, what is its goal and how do they want to position themselves? " - dealing with these questions is Nicole Trasatti's passion. And these are the questions she deals with at Noord. The design agency is all about recognizing design issues and efficiently arriving at consistent solutions. Currently, Noord is working on a project for Isostar, for which it is designing the entire visual world and the website. Various corporate designs and logos are also in the pipeline.

Classic career

Nicole Trasatti was co-owner of the agency Lang Gysi Knoll (later Neue LGK) for more than 15 years, where she was head of consulting. She was responsible for campaigns for Swiss Post, Emmi and SBB. Trasatti is a trained marketing communications manager and specializes in brand management. In the last two years, she has worked independently as a consultant for brand management, branding and brand communication, serving SMEs, large companies, NPOs and supporting agencies as well as creative teams in the development of corporate presences and campaigns. In retrospect, Trasatti says she followed the classic career path. In addition to a few jobs on the client side - at Swissair, for example - she had gained experience in various large agencies. "At some point, the time simply comes to stop something and start something else," she says modestly, describing her career and her departure from Neue LGK. In the meantime, she had also become a mother, many things had changed, "and you don't have forever," she explains. You can just think about how you want to spend your time in the working world before a change becomes difficult at some point. In larger agencies, you're much more limited, says Trasatti, "most people are busy with themselves. She, on the other hand, likes to lead employees, wants to pass on something and coach teams. Positioning herself superficially is not her thing. For Trasatti, Noord fit perfectly into this image of a small agency that is willing to change, but is also able to do everything from a single source.

Agency at the airport creates break-out mailing for Lapp Tec

To attract new customers, the agency developed a direct mail campaign for Lapp Tec at the airport that highlights the company's strengths.

Lapp Tec is a subsidiary of the German Lapp Group. Until now, the plastic injection molding company has only acted as an internal supplier within the Group. Following a strategic realignment, however, the aim is now to acquire customers outside the Lapp Group in the future and at the same time position Lapp Tec as a developer and producer of a wide range of injection-molded parts at the very top of the value chain. To attract new customers, the agency at the airport developed a plastic mailing that demonstrates Lapp Tec's engineering and manufacturing expertise. Injection-molded objects in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and structures encourage the recipient to break out of familiar thought patterns and get in touch with Lapp Tec as early as the part development stage.

TBWA\Zurich: It doesn't take a spectacle to make a spectacular offer

TBWA\Zurich is continuing the Sunrise campaign platform launched last year with Roger Federer in 2016.

A year ago, TBWA\Zürich launched the campaign platform with Roger Federer for Sunrise, which does not let him speak, but the attractive offers. Because when offers speak for themselves, there is no need for an advertising spectacle, special effects, or a brand ambassador to speak for the offers. The continuation of the 2016 campaign shows what is not needed to advertise a spectacular offer - and thus exposes common advertising mechanisms in a spectacularly entertaining way: With a step-by-step reduction to the essentials - the transparent offers. The integrated annual campaign kicks off with a TV spot. In addition to cinema, TV, posters, print and the microsite Sunrise.ch/RF other flanking online, POS and CRM advertising media are used.

E,T&H expands management

The Eastern Swiss advertising agency E,T&H is expanding its executive team with the addition of Creative Director Jean-Marc Demeulemeester.

True to the agency credo "Strong message, strong impact." the LSA agency took an important step a year ago by signing Demeulemeester to further expand its creative expertise. The integration of the experienced creative director into the management team as of January 1, 2016, underpins this claim. Jean-Marc Demeulemeester has been able to contribute his conceptual and strategic skills to some of the leading Swiss advertising agencies in the past. With him, E,T&H is convinced to open another successful chapter in the long history of the agency, which was founded in 1976.
