SF: End of "Time information" before the news

Swiss television engaged in unauthorized advertising by mentioning sponsors in its «Zeitinformation» segment before news broadcasts. The Federal Administrative Court has upheld the decision of the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom).

The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation SRG shows the 10-second "Time Information" before the news and information programs "Schweiz Aktuell", "Tagesschau" and "10vor10". A clock is displayed together with a sponsor. Last June, OFCOM came to the conclusion that SRG was in breach of the provisions on sponsorship. The Federal Administrative Court has now rejected the SRG's appeal against this decision. In their ruling, the judges in Bern initially supported the view of Bakom that the permanent insertion of the sponsor led to unauthorized advertising emphasis. Furthermore, it was not clear whether the actual "time information" was being sponsored or the subsequent information programs.
However, according to the Radio and Television Act (RTVA), sponsorship of information programs is prohibited. As SRG spokesperson Daniel Steiner told the news agency SDA on request, SRG will not appeal the decision to the Federal Supreme Court. The sponsored "Zeitinformation" will no longer exist in this form in future. Steiner points out that according to the amended Radio and Television Ordinance, commercials up to 10 seconds in length may be broadcast with immediate effect without a recognition signal or commercial break. By the middle of this year, a form should be found to replace the "time information" in this way.
SRG has been sponsoring watches for 16 years. In 1998, the SRG won its dispute with Bakom. In 2007, the revised RTVA came into force, on the basis of which the currently rejected complaint was now to be assessed. (Judgement A-4521/2009 of 19.3.2010)

30 years of Rokpa: media personalities present theater performances

Energy Deutschschweiz: Second radio station in Bern

Radio Energy now also broadcasts from the federal capital. Radio BE1 becomes Energy Bern.

Radio BE1 will cease operations at midnight on Easter Monday and will broadcast its new program under the new name Energy Bern from Friday, 9 April. The station's team will remain largely the same, according to Ringier Radio Director Dani Büchi. The program and musical taste in Bern will not be a copy of Radio Energy Zurich. Ringier Switzerland is thus launching the second radio station in German-speaking Switzerland under the Energy brand. The international Energy brand broadcasts in fifteen countries on 400 frequencies.
Nik Eugster will be the new Program and Managing Director of Energy Bern. The 31-year-old from Bern studied communications management and was program director of Capital FM for the last two years and previously program director of Canal3 for five years. The previous Managing Director of Radio BE1, Bernhard Krättli, and Program Director Dominique Hofer are leaving the station.
The Bernese local station Radio BE1 originally went on air in 1983 under the name Radio Förderband and saw itself as a minority cultural station. Three years later, this concept was abandoned as it ultimately attracted too few listeners to ensure the station's economic survival. The radio producers therefore turned more towards the mainstream. In 2001, the station was relaunched under the name BE1.

Axel Springer: Application for the iPad

Axel Springer's Welt Group has developed a newsstand app for the iPad. It allows users to read the latest issues of *Welt*, *Welt Kompakt*, and the tabloid edition of *Welt am Sonntag*.

Springer wants to be the first German publisher to be represented on the Apple tablet, which will be launched in the USA on April 3. According to Horizont.net, Jan Bayer, CEO of the Welt Group, Berliner Morgenpost and Hamburger Abendblatt, has decided to initially launch a simple application without frills such as videos or articles set to music. Essentially, the offer has PDF functions like the e-paper. Only the presentation of the content and navigation has changed slightly.
After a 30-day free trial period, the subscription prices for digital items are 29.99 euros for Die Welt, 12.99 euros for Welt Kompakt and 7.99 euros for the WamS tabloid. In terms of price, the apps are therefore only slightly below the level of the printed version.
According to Bayer, major branded companies have also approached Axel Springer. They want to place their campaign for the German launch of the iPad in the Welt Group's kiosk app.
