Pfeiffer and Klein, both from eastern Switzerland, have a master's degree in "Intermedia Communication Design". Their work has won several awards at "Best of Swiss Web". Klein has also been a member of the "Best of Swiss Web" jury in the Creation category since 2008. Study: TV advertising reaches consumers

TV-Werbung erreicht in den USA täglich 85 aller Erwachsenen beziehungsweise 94 Prozent aller Fernsehzuschauer. Dies zeigt eine aktuelle Analyse des Councils for Research Excellence.

According to Publicis, the research by the Council for Research Excellence is based on data from the "Video Consumer Mapping" study. As part of this comprehensive study, the live TV consumption of 376 American adults was documented over a total of more than 750,000 minutes. The analyses show that TV advertising reaches an average of 85% of all adults and 94% of all TV viewers every day. Typically, viewers watch around 26 commercial breaks per day with an average length of 2 minutes and 46 seconds. This means that viewers watch a total of around 73 minutes of TV advertising every day - the equivalent of around 146 commercials.
Consumers appear to behave very similarly in various ways in the minutes before a commercial break, during the commercial break and after the break. According to the study, an average of 11% of viewers change channels in the four minutes before a commercial break. During the commercial break, only 14 percent change channels, while 13 percent change channels in the four minutes after the actual program restarts. In short: 86% of viewers stay tuned during the commercial break. A similar pattern of behavior can also be seen when looking at channel changes before, during and after commercials. Typically, 19 percent leave the room in the four minutes before a commercial break, 20 percent leave the room during the commercial and 21 percent in the four minutes after the end of the commercial break.

Basler Zeitung Medien cuts 24 jobs

Basler Zeitung Medien is cutting 24 jobs in its printing and prepress division due to excess staffing.

Due to the tense economic situation, various restructuring measures have already been implemented at Basler Zeitung Medien (BZM) in recent months, the company wrote in a press release on Thursday. However, further optimization steps are still necessary to overcome this situation.
Due to staff overcapacity, job cuts in the printing and prepress area are unavoidable at the present time. A total of 24 jobs will have to be eliminated. Talks with the affected employees are scheduled to take place in June. According to the press release, a balanced social plan will help to mitigate the effects of the decision as far as possible.
Basler Zeitung Medien was taken over by financier Tito Tettamanti and Basel lawyer Martin Wagner in February. Wagner stated at the time that there were no plans for further job cuts following the almost completed restructuring.

SDA Group: Disappearance of free newspapers causes Group profit to shrink

Significantly lower consolidated net income for the SDA Group: Total revenue declined by 3.9 percent last year to 38.26 million Swiss francs.

According to SDA, this can be seen in the Group's 2009 annual report. Operating profit (EBIT) amounted to CHF 0.35 million (previous year: CHF 4.39 million). At the bottom line, Group profit after tax fell sharply to CHF 0.86 (3.10) million. According to Chairman of the Board of Directors Hans Heinrich Coninx, the decline in earnings is primarily a consequence of the massive slump in free newspapers. The shakeout occurred faster and more severely than expected. The free papers .ch, News, Cash daily and Le Matin Bleu ceased publication in 2009. Operating expenses increased by 7.4 percent to CHF 37.1 million. According to Markus Schwab, Chairman of the Executive Board, the costs for news procurement were reduced, while those for transmission as well as material and space costs remained stable.
In contrast, personnel costs increased by 4.4 percent to CHF 28.2 million. However, it should be noted that personnel expenses in 2008 were around CHF 1.1 million lower due to the dissolution of the patronage foundation. On a comparable basis, the increase in personnel costs amounted to just CHF 0.1 million. The SDA Group is facing another difficult year in 2010, Coninx and Schwab write in the annual report. It will not be possible to close the current year with a profit. Restructuring and cost-saving measures have been initiated so that a positive result can be expected again by the end of 2011.
Balance sheet remains solid
Equity increased by 3.6% to CHF 24.8 million in the last financial year despite the significantly lower consolidated profit. The equity ratio is 78.7% (previous year: 63.5%). Goodwill fell by a further 14.6 percent to CHF 7.64 million. Due to these solid balance sheet figures, SDA AG has decided against the capital increase envisaged at the beginning of the year. Should greater liquidity be required in the short term, SDA can currently refinance itself on the money and capital markets at favorable terms.
The SDA Group includes the SDA news agency, Sportinformation, the Keystone picture agency, News aktuell (Switzerland) and AWP Finanznachrichten. SDA AG has a total of 218 (previous year: 220) full-time positions.

New Lgk invents Swiss cheese knife

Switzerland Cheese Marketing is launching a new advertising campaign for Swiss cheese in Switzerland in 2010. The aim of the campaign is to encourage consumers to pay more attention to the Swiss origin when they stand at the cheese counter or in front of the chiller cabinet and buy cheese.

Generic advertising for Swiss cheese must, on the one hand, be clearly differentiated from advertising for varieties and, on the other hand, must not favor any individual brand, the agency writes in a press release. Neue LGK has implemented this with a symbol and a story that share the attributes of Swiss cheese: Quality, origin, tradition, craftsmanship. The Swiss cheese knife was invented for this purpose. It is shown in all new TV commercials and talks about Swiss cheese, its qualities, its production, its traditions and its naturalness.
The film was produced by Solid&Hallerfilm. The Swiss cheese knife is produced in collaboration with Victorinox. It will be on sale from September as part of promotions and campaigns.
