On Tuesday evening, Microsoft presented the new features, one of the key ones being the now integrated music offering. In future, users will be able to stream around five million songs on Bing, call up lyrics and view videos and images of various artists. There is also the option to buy music via Zune, iTunes and Amazon. Users can listen to a song once in its entirety and then only as a 30-second excerpt. This is apparently intended to boost the sale of available music. At the same time, Bing does not want to position itself as a competitor to Microsoft's Zune music service, as was emphasized during the presentation of the new features.
In addition to music, Bing will also be equipped with games and TV content. In future, users will be able to call up games test reports and information on the subject on a dedicated page. There is also a casual gaming offer with around 100 games that can be played directly in the browser. Microsoft is also upgrading its search engine in terms of TV content. The company already has around 20,000 episodes of series - content from Hulu, CBS and Viacom - in its repertoire. In future, there will also be detailed TV guides on the site.
Initially only in the USA
Initially, the offer will be limited to the USA. "As with all other features, we will examine which features make sense for us based on our experience in the USA and depending on the specific requirements of the German-speaking markets," Miriam Köp, spokesperson for Microsoft Germany, told Pressetext. "We are trying to better understand the intentions of users in their search queries and deliver the content they are looking for as quickly as possible. Core search is an essential prerequisite for this," adds Köp.
