Last but not least: Hearing impaired grandma leaves devastation in her wake

In the new TV commercial for the eyewear and hearing aid chain Specsaver, a sprightly grandmother plays the lead role. She drives around with the music blaring, but doesn't realize that the extremely loud volume is causing damage to her surroundings.

The car is driven around with loud music and open windows. A cliché that doesn't really suggest a granny at the wheel. However, instead of the expected half-grandma, a grandma turns the corner. As a result of her hearing impairment, sloshing coffee cups and shattering glass panes can be seen in the commercial.
The reason for the commercial from Specsaver, the UK's market leader in opticians, is to expand its business into hearing aid acoustics. According to Wuv.de, the film was created in-house under creative director Graham Daldry. Rattling Stick shot the commercial entitled "Big Noise" under the direction of Sara Dunlop.

Italy's newspaper journalists strike against law restricting investigative reporting

The journalists are protesting against the law introduced by the government under Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to restrict the powers of the judiciary to wiretap and investigative reporting. The Italian journalists' association FNSI called for the protest. With the controversial law, Berlusconi not only wants to restrict wiretapping in investigations, but also impose drastic penalties on the media and journalists.
journalists who publish investigation files or recorded conversations, protested FNSI. Numerous Italian media see this as a muzzle for their reporting.
With his comfortable majority in parliament, the conservative head of government and media czar had already pushed the law through the Senate weeks ago. It was passed on to the Chamber of Deputies. According to Berlusconi, there are far too many eavesdropping attacks and privacy must be much better protected.

Oil spill: public interest is waning

Although there is still no end in sight to the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, public interest is clearly waning. There are fewer and fewer discussions on the subject.

This can be seen very clearly in the statistics for internet search terms and online trends on sites such as Twitter. The oil spill is now mentioned much less frequently than it was a month ago, according to Pressetext.de. The tweets on Twitter peaked around June 15. As a result, 17 percent of all postings revolved around the topic. In the meantime, the frequency has fallen to between 0.2 and 0.5 percent.
As media scientist Kai-Uwe Weidlich, Managing Director of the Media Institute in Ludwigshafen, told Pressetext, public interest is determined to a large extent by the news situation. In other words, the public is interested in what concerns them and what the media offers them. As the oil spill only affects a relatively small proportion of people, reporting ebbs away considerably. And as soon as a new disaster occurs, the previous one is usually quickly forgotten, says Weidlich.

Hofer Kommunikation wins the "Media Award, öga 2010" with Ricoter advertising

The «Media Award, öga 2010,» the first-ever communications award presented by the green industry, goes to Ricoter. The Swiss manufacturer of recycled garden products was honored for its exemplary market presence. The Bern-based agency Hofer Kommunikation is responsible for the advertising.

At the opening ceremony of this year's öga - the largest Swiss trade fair for the green sector - the Green Sector Communication Award was presented for the first time. The prize was initiated by the trade magazine Der Gartenbau from Solothurn and the publishing house Eugen Ulmer from Stuttgart. The aim of the new media award is to promote the quality of communication within the industry.
One of the reasons given by the jury for its decision was that the company's corporate philosophy is exemplary and stands out far beyond the country's borders. Ricoter's communications have been handled by Hofer Kommunikation, Bern, for over 20 years. In the current campaign, Graziella Rogers, until a few weeks ago the reigning Miss Earth Switzerland, represents the values of the manufacturer of recycled soil. She not only shares Ricoter's place of origin, Aarberg, but above all its commitment to greater sustainability.

No rescue for the media through iPad & Co

Some exponents of the media industry even see the new tablet PCs as a way out of the current crisis. A survey of experts conducted by the media consultancy Publicom revealed that the experts are not quite so euphoric about this. There is little doubt about the success of the new mobile devices. They are also convinced that users are willing to pay for special content. But whether this will be enough to establish a successful business model still seems uncertain.
Experts assume that device manufacturers, network operators and software companies will primarily benefit from the tablet boom. Content providers, on the other hand, will have to make do with what is left for them.
Publicom, which specializes in media research and consulting, regularly publishes the results of an expert survey under the name Delphinarium. Over forty experts from leading media companies as well as representatives from advertising, media journalism, communications science and corporate communications take part in the panel.

UBI: Complaint against reports on "Yasmin" pill rejected

The news magazine 10 vor 10 did not violate the principle of objectivity with its reports on the possible side effects of the birth control pill «Yasmin.» The Independent Complaints Board reached this conclusion and dismissed a complaint against the reports.

In May 2009, the Swiss television news magazine SF reported on a 16-year-old girl who suffered a pulmonary embolism after taking "Yasmin" and has been severely disabled ever since. Based on this case, 10 vor 10 made the possible side effects of contraceptives a topic of discussion. The complainants are now criticizing the fact that the reports falsely gave the impression that "Yasmin" was particularly dangerous. This is what the Independent Complaints Authority for Radio and Television UBI wrote on Thursday.
The legally enshrined requirement of fairness was therefore violated, the complainants continued. In the opinion of the UBI, however, the audience could clearly see that the first contribution reflected the point of view of the young people. It was recognizable that the two subsequent contributions on the topic were influenced by the position of the girl and her family. In addition, the distributors of the contraceptive were able to comment on the allegations and justify their position.
The statements made by the mother were supplemented with statements from Swissmedic and medical representatives that were identical in content. It was therefore apparent that statements made by the mother and an interviewed expert were controversial. The UBI found that the sometimes complex medical facts could have been presented more precisely, as it writes. However, the journalistic simplifications had not significantly impaired the free formation of opinion. The accusation of excessive emotionalization was also unjustified.
The UBI therefore unanimously rejected the complaint against the three television broadcasts.

ADC Cannes Predictions: The winners have been announced

This year, for the first time, commercials were in the minority among the 40 films: most of the films were cases from disciplines such as Integrated, Titanium, Promo or Direct. "This shows that big cross-media ideas are in demand," said Martin Spillmann, Co-President of the ADC. The best Cannes predictions were made by Mimoza Paloka from Weber Harbeke Partners (750 points). In second place was Isabelle Meier from Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett (720 points). Third place with 710 points was shared by Cyril Wirz from Publicis and Nadine Stüssi from SFLB.
