Tele Ostschweiz under reconstruction

After receiving a provisional license from the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom) at the end of January, Tele Ostschweiz is now working on a technical renewal and a new program during the summer vacations. On August 16, TVO will then launch with a completely new look and in 16:9 format.

Tele Ostschweiz had run into financial difficulties due to an appeal against the granting of the regional television license. The wait for the license had made it impossible to invest in technology and programming for a long time, the broadcaster said in a statement on Monday. It is now high time for both: instead of working with video tapes, digital recording, editing and playback technology is now being used. At the same time, the picture format will be changed from 4:3 to 16:9. In addition, the station is given a completely new design: logo, broadcasting equipment, studios. The content of the programmes will also be modernized; the daily news programme in particular will feature more original content and more talk shows. A new format is also planned for Mondays: "Atelier 3" is dedicated to topics and people in the region.
All these changes will come into force on August 16. Until then, extensive renovation work is underway at the Bionstrasse in St. Gallen, the studio location of Tele Ostschweiz. In addition to the daily news program, which is produced directly in the newsroom, Tele Ostschweiz will broadcast reports from NZZ Format every day from Monday to Thursday. At weekends, Marco Fritsche welcomes guests at various locations in Eastern Switzerland. In addition, TVO presents a special program from the summit of the Kronberg on the national holiday.

Last but not least: The Playboy advisor knows what men need to know

Lifestyle magazines aren't just for entertainment; they also serve as advisors to their readers—especially online. The options are virtually endless. One new online offering, however, stands out: the men's magazine Playboy has brought its print column «The Advisor» to the web.

If a man is ever at a loss, Playboy's new online guide is now at his side. On Derberater.de you can find information from all areas of life. Lust and love, fashion, motoring and sport are just a few of them. With this new offering, the men's magazine aims to meet men's "growing need for orientation and relevance", according to Playboy editor-in-chief Florian Boitin. The advisor promises to provide "everything men need to know". In fact, many an essential question is answered when visiting the website. For example, whether the fan scarf can also be worn outside the stadium. How to recognize the plainclothes police. Whether there is an optimal penis curvature. Or how to pull off the butt bomb of a lifetime in the pool. Definitely, if a man has the concentrated knowledge that can be found on the consultant website, he is ideally equipped for life.

Controversial change of management at France Télévisions

A controversial leadership change is taking place at France Télévisions, the French public broadcaster. On Monday, President Nicolas Sarkozy nominated Rémy Pflimlin to succeed Patrick de Carolis, who had clashed fiercely with Sarkozy in 2008 and had since been considered «past his prime.» He had publicly described a comment Sarkozy made about the network’s programming as «wrong, stupid, and deeply unfair.».

His successor Pflimlin was already Director General of the TV channel France 3. Most recently, the 56-year-old organized the recapitalization of the national press distributor Presstalis. Sarkozy's appointment of the head of France Télévisions had been heavily criticized in the past. In a recent manifesto, 100 personalities from the worlds of film, television and politics protested against the move, saying that it jeopardized independence and represented an intolerable step backwards. Among them were former Prime Ministers Lionel Jospin and Dominique de Villepin as well as former Culture Minister Jack Lang.
Pflimlin has a difficult task ahead of him. He must position the state TV holding company in the dispute over the advertising ban that has already been decided. He will also decide on the privatization of the subsidiary France Télévisions Publicité, which is active in the advertising sector. The "Pflimlin" personnel decision still has to be confirmed by the supervisory body CSA and the two chambers of parliament. "Who will seriously dare to oppose the will of the president?" reads the manifesto entitled "Liberate public broadcasting".
