Walker: Campaign developed for Biovision

The Walker advertising agency took on the topic of «biodiversity» for Biovision and examined it from an unusual perspective.

Biovision is involved in specific projects in East Africa to preserve the habitats of unique animals and plants. One example is the Kakamega forest - the last major rainforest in Kenya. Biovision shows the local population how income can also be generated outside the protected forests. This is the key to effective protection of the remaining forests.
The Walker advertising agency took up the topic of "biodiversity" for Biovision and looked at it from an unusual angle. The viral spots show somewhat less beautiful animals that inspire viewers with their skills alone.

Plan.Net Suisse and Usgang.ch launch online catwalk for Pepe Jeans

In collaboration with its new client, Usgang.ch, the digital agency Plan.Net Suisse has launched an online catwalk for Pepe Jeans where users can showcase themselves with a photo and strut down the runway.

By uploading a photo, you can integrate your own portrait into the virtual catwalk that opens when you visit Usgang.ch. A few mouse clicks later, the alter ego is already walking down the Pepe Jeans online catwalk. A link to the personal catwalk, which can then be shared on the Internet, for example on Facebook or via Twitter, is also created.
Usgang.ch and Pepe Jeans are giving away prizes worth over CHF 2,000 among all online models, including a styling lesson with lifestyle and fashion expert Luisa Rossi. With a bit of luck, it is also possible that your own catwalk motif will adorn the homepage of the nightlife portal for a day. "We are very pleased to present Pepe Jeans in a light that differs from pure image advertising with this online campaign. We want to bring our product closer to the target group. The online catwalk is intended to make people feel what they will be wearing later," says Michèle Stressle, Head of Marketing & PR, Madison Clothing.
The campaign was conceived and implemented by Zurich-based digital agency Plan.Net Suisse, which acquired Pepe Jeans as a new client and is responsible for the Pepe special in cooperation with Usgang.ch. The campaign is also accompanied by various below-the-line measures: Usgang.ch photographers, for example, will be equipped with Pepe Jeans fashion and will distribute flyers in Swiss clubs. Promotional vouchers can also be printed out to receive a ten percent discount at the Pepe store in Zurich.

Last but not least: And the winner is...

A glitch at RTL: Viewers had the chance to win 5,000 euros on the show «Die ultimative Chartshow» with Oliver Geissen. The winner was to be announced at the end of the show.

But instead of the winner’s name, «Max Mustermann from Musterstadt» appeared on screen. The private broadcaster’s creative explanation was that the text generator hadn’t worked, which is why the placeholder text had been displayed. It sounds plausible, somehow at least. It seems much more likely, however, that the intern in charge was on the phone while working or was distracted for other reasons and therefore forgot to insert the name of the actual winner. Even more likely is that the intern in charge forgot to insert a plausible—albeit equally fictitious—name that would have led the audience to believe that someone had actually won 5,000 euros …

SRG may broadcast more advertising from 2011

The Federal Council is authorizing more advertising breaks for SRG from 2011. The relaxation of the advertising rules and the switch to one Billag invoice per year should help the radio and TV provider to compensate for the refused fee increase.

As before, news and programs about current political events may only be interrupted by advertising if they last longer than 90 minutes. In all other programs outside of prime time, advertising is now permitted every 30 minutes. This was decided by the Federal Council on Wednesday, according to SDA.
During prime time from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., an advertising break is permitted every 90 minutes as before. The Federal Council increased the SRG's maximum advertising time from 8% to 15%. The Federal Council found that the regulation takes account of the public service. The SRG television program should be less commercially oriented than the offerings of private broadcasters, especially during prime time. The advertising regulations have already been relaxed for private broadcasters.
Billag invoice only once a year
In addition, the Federal Council decided that the Billag fee collection agency will no longer send out its bills quarterly but only once a year from 2011. This will result in savings of CHF 9 to 10 million due to reduced printing, dispatch and payment costs. Anyone who still wants a quarterly bill will have to pay two francs each time.
The extension of SRG's advertising time and Billag's annual fee bill were among the reasons why the Federal Council rejected a fee increase in June, as the Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (Uvek) writes according to SDA. On Wednesday, the Federal Council also permitted the digital transmission of all analogue FM stations beyond the licensed coverage area. Previously, this was not possible for local broadcasters. The opening was necessary for the development of digital transmission technologies, particularly in French-speaking Switzerland.
Residents of nursing homes will not receive Billag bills for radio and television. The Federal Council has adapted the Radio and Television Ordinance to the revised Nursing Ordinance.

Springer and Ringier: Expansion planned in Eastern Europe

Ringier and Axel Springer plan to acquire media companies in Eastern Europe. «Yes, we want to make acquisitions in specific areas in Eastern Europe, particularly in the digital sector—that is, on the Internet,» Ringier CEO Christian Unger told the *Süddeutsche Zeitung*.

"We regularly look at everything that comes onto the market. This includes the portfolio of the WAZ Group, but also that of the British Mecom Group, for example," said Unger in the interview published on Wednesday, according to SDA.
Both WAZ and Mecom want to withdraw. Springer and Ringier founded a joint venture for Eastern Europe six months ago, and the deal was finalized six weeks ago.
Regarding a possible IPO of the 50:50 joint venture, Unger said: "If we want to make a really big takeover and all this is not enough, an IPO would also be conceivable. This could perhaps take place in three years."
