New platform Janzz launched

Janzz provides businesses and individuals with a tool designed to make all the skills and knowledge in the world commercially viable. The Web 3.0 platform was designed for online use and has been live since late December 2010.

Based on the principle of high-quality matching, users' individually definable selection criteria are compared with each other. Companies, organizations and private individuals are connected in real time and extremely cost-effectively. Janzz works on the basis of the Social Semantic Web (Web 3.0), an intelligent further development of social media.

Specifically, Janzz wants to capture and bring together "all the skills in the world", according to a press release. The platform will free up previously untapped resources and revolutionize the job market. Stefan Winzenried, CEO of the new platform: "We initiators, investors and the private and public partners involved expect a macroeconomic effect: Janzz will change Switzerland and the world. Supply and demand for global knowledge and skills are far from exhausted. Our aim is to close this immense gap."

The offer will be launched throughout Switzerland in a large-scale campaign. It will then be marketed throughout Europe and expanded to the Middle East, Asia and the USA.

More on this in the next print edition of Werbewoche.

Stadtfilter discontinues all news outlets

The Winterthur radio station Stadtfilter is abolishing its news programs. The station has many more listeners than originally expected and therefore no longer wants to pay the listener-dependent rates of the news agency SDA.

The more listeners a station has, the more it has to pay the SDA for its news services. In the case of Radio Stadtfilter, this has so far been CHF 3,480 per year - because those responsible expected only modest success and just 2,000 listeners when the station was launched in March 2009. However, the small station was well received: Publica-Data now reports around 40,000 listeners for Stadtfilter - twenty times more than assumed at the start of broadcasting.

In the current year, CHF 22,000 would therefore be due for SDA's services. The news agency confirmed a corresponding article in the Landbote on Wednesday, according to which Stadtfilter canceled its SDA subscription as of January 1 and discontinued all news outlets.

No obligation to provide information

However, the discontinuation of information contributions does not result in Stadtfilter losing its license fee. The station is considered a "complementary program" and therefore has no obligation to provide information. According to federal guidelines, the radio only has to offer a "thematically, culturally and musically different" program.

Dispute between EU Commission and Hungary comes to a head

While the European Commission no longer rules out sanctions against Budapest, the Hungarian government is standing by its position and defending the controversial legislation.

The new media law is a truly European law: it does not contain a single passage that could not be found in the legislation of individual or even several European member states, wrote Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's spokesman in a statement distributed in Brussels on Tuesday, according to SDA.

Italy, France and Sweden, for example, also regulate the work of various media sectors broadly. "The option of fines of several hundred thousand euros or the revocation of a license for repeated violations of laws (...) can also be found in the media laws of Germany, Finland and Poland," it continues. Hungary is prepared to exchange opinions, but is opposed to the "political and ideological attacks" that have been carried out to date. At the same time, the government emphasized that it does not intend to restrict freedom of expression - rather, freedom of the press will be strengthened.

The EU Commission, on the other hand, has doubts about the legality of the Hungarian media law and is examining its compatibility with European law. After initially remaining silent, the EU authority is now taking a tough stance. On Tuesday, a Commission spokesperson no longer ruled out sanctions and stated that proceedings for violation of the EU treaties were independent of the respective rotating EU presidency. Hungary took over the EU Council Presidency on January 1.

TV sports broadcasts 2010: Holland-Spain with the most viewers

Last year, more than one million sports fans tuned in to each of nine live television broadcasts. The largest audience was for the World Cup final between the Netherlands and Spain: 1.37 million people watched it on Swiss Television (SF).

In second and third place were the broadcasts of the Switzerland-Honduras football World Cup match and the men's downhill race at the Olympic Games. 1.29 million watched the Swiss footballers' draw and 1.23 million watched Didier Défago's downhill victory, as SF reported on Wednesday according to SDA.

Most of Swiss television's other successful sports programs last year were also direct broadcasts of World Cup football matches and Winter Olympics events. The decisive jump by Simon Ammann on the large hill in Vancouver was watched by 1.15 million people on SF. The football matches Chile-Switzerland, Germany-Spain and Spain-Switzerland as well as the SuperG and the second run of the men's giant slalom reached an average audience of between 1.0 and 1.1 million.

Of the 100 most-watched sports programs, 93 were broadcasts of football matches or the Winter Olympics. The others were the election of the Sportsman or Sportswoman of the Year (14th place), the final round of the Swiss Wrestling Festival (32nd place) and the ice hockey World Cup match between Switzerland and Germany (57th place). The 8th round of the Swiss Wrestling Festival reached 81st place, while two tennis finals and the Federer-Nadal Tennis Charity Night also made it into the top 100 (64, 70, 77).

Personnel changes at Swiss Equity Medien

Swiss Equity Medien strengthens the team in all areas and is fully integrated into NZZ.

Swiss Equity Medien can look back on a very successful financial year, according to a press release issued on Wednesday. The repositioning of the Swiss Equity magazine as an NZZ magazine has opened up new market segments and significantly increased circulation. Another milestone was the launch of the "Swiss Equity yearbook Real Estate". In the events business, the company succeeded in establishing new conferences such as SE corporate finance day, which specializes in corporate finance, and SE cleantech day, an investor conference on green investments.

Due to this positive development, Swiss Equity will strengthen the team. Predrag Nehmer will join the sales team at the beginning of January 2011. The 31-year-old will take over key account management in the Life Sciences division. At the beginning of April, Reinhard Blum will replace Mario Ferraris as Key Account Manager in the Real Estate division, who has no longer worked for Swiss Equity since the beginning of December. The 47-year-old Blum is currently responsible for the real estate market at NZZ-Media. Elke Schaller will join the marketing and events team at the beginning of February. The 31-year-old previously worked in marketing at the medtech company Hocoma. In the editorial department, Swiss Equity was able to recruit Werner Grundlehner for a new project. The 45-year-old is currently head of the business team at Swisscontent and previously worked at "Finanz + Wirtschaft" for eleven years.

Swiss Equity Medien AG will be fully integrated into Neue Zürcher Zeitung AG from January 2011. Björn Zern, former Managing Director of Swiss Equity Medien AG, will continue to head the Swiss Equity division within the NZZ. He will also remain editor-in-chief of "Swiss Equity Magazin".

Myspace: Layoffs planned

It looks like Myspace will have to lay off employees again. The once-largest online social network is struggling in vain against the competition and is unable to turn things around.

Around half of the 1,100 employees of the online network Myspace are to be made redundant. The parent company News Corp. wants to drastically streamline the business, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing informed persons. This is also expected to lead to further job cuts. Myspace itself declined to comment.

This is intended to prepare the sale, which is planned for this year. However, there are no talks yet. In 2005, media mogul Murdoch's News Corporation paid 580 million dollars for Myspace.

Advico Young & Rubicam: Fundraising campaign, spot and documentary film realized for Heks

Advico Young & Rubicam has launched a campaign for Heks, the relief organization of the Evangelical Churches in Switzerland.

The development of rural communities is one of the main concerns of Heks, the aid organization of the Swiss Protestant Churches. The Georgian village of Mirashkhani in the inhospitable South Caucasus is a good example of how you can achieve great things on a small scale. In collaboration with Heks, an irrigation system for the fields and a cheese dairy have been set up, enabling the people of Mirashkhani to earn a regular income and thus lead a self-determined life.

Heks and Advico collaborated with documentary filmmaker and cameraman Peter Indergand for the winter fundraising campaign. With a small team of three people, a 30-minute documentary film about the project in Mirashkhani was produced in Georgia. A simultaneously produced TV commercial, posters and a photo series used in various media reflect the film in a condensed form.

Spot and posters are currently on air, the documentation and photographic impressions from Mirashkhani are available on www.heks.ch to see. Further photos will be on display in a mobile exhibition.
