JvM/Limmat launches healthy strength training from Exersuisse

Effective immediately, the Kieser Training Centers are now called Exersuisse. Jung von Matt/Limmat was commissioned to develop the new brand identity and launch campaign.

Since January 1, the 18 Kieser Training Centers in Switzerland have been operating under the new name Exersuisse and with a new image. With healthy strength training, Exersuisse focuses not on aesthetically motivated training but on preventive and regenerative training, with the emphasis on promoting back muscles.

Jung von Matt/Limmat developed the new name and the complete new CI in close cooperation with the management of Exersuisse. The launch will take place via a TV spot as well as accompanying measures such as banners, advertisements and posters. As in the training, the back is also the focus of the communication: three analog animated films were created in which Spiny, an animated backbone, searches for his lost muscles, completely exhausted. The bluesy music composed for the spots is intended to lend additional bizarreness to the figure of the untrained spine and its distress.

Chinese-soul.com: Sound spectra visualized

Web developer Andreas Weber created a website for the launch of the CD «Chinese Soul» by the jazz ensemble Werner Fischer’s Travelogue. As part of this project, he visualized sound spectra.

According to Weber, the visualization of sound spectra is the most direct way to visually represent a musical experience. With programs such as Flash, the values can be queried at short intervals and converted into visual patterns: animated bar charts, waves, clouds or even psychedelic colored shapes. For Chinese-soul.com the sound spectra were not realized as abstract patterns, but combined with representational drawings. A drawing program was written for this purpose, with which the sketches could be recorded, played back and edited.

It seems as if it is the music itself that draws the line. According to the band name Werner Fischer's Travelogue, the guiding metaphor for the content of the drawings was the travel diary: light, ink-like sketches, handwritten text and a leisurely yet steady forward movement of the line. In addition, the song lyrics penned by Publicis lyricist Jan Krohn appear synchronously below the drawing.

Weber's first Flash project was a drawing program that allowed users to create their own drawings on their home computer and send them as e-cards. Later, he wrote a program for an American teacher that teaches his students how and in what order to draw the glyphs of the Japanese Katakana alphabet. And last year, he created a tool that enabled an Australian NGO to record and replay the signatures of citizens who wanted to register online as voters. This and other work is documented at the web address www.motiondraw.com.

FOPH launches tobacco prevention campaign

The aim is to establish non-smoking as a "cool" lifestyle. With this objective in mind, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) launched its new tobacco prevention campaign "Smoke Free" on Monday. It was developed by Wirz.

While the Prevention campaign to date has emphasized the naturalness of not smoking, the new campaign underlines the individual benefits of not smoking. The aim is to further reduce the proportion of smokers, which fell from 33% to 27% between 2001 and 2009 and has since stagnated.

The campaign, financed by the Tobacco Prevention Fund, runs until 2012, costs CHF 9.8 million and uses advertising concepts from the tobacco industry. The centerpiece is a cigarette packet with the campaign slogan "no cigarette is better". However, it is not filled with cigarettes, but with ten tips on how to stop smoking and ten advantages of not smoking. The aim is to establish non-smoking as an actual brand under the slogan "Smoke Free".

In the launch phase, a cinema spot, advertisements, posters and the website Smokefree.ch launched. The aim is to establish the "Smoke Free" packet in the style of real cigarette brands. The imagery of the tobacco industry is also used in the second phase: In one commercial, for example, the adventurer appears in the great outdoors, albeit in a smoke-free environment. The campaign is being run in German, French and Italian. In order to appeal to as many migrants as possible, the campaign will also be run in Albanian, English, Portuguese, Spanish, Serbian-Croatian-Bosnian and Turkish.

You will find the report on the campaign in the Werbewoche print edition, which will be published on January 14, 2011.

Radio licenses: Federal Administrative Court confirms proceedings

The process of awarding radio licenses in southeastern Switzerland and in Aargau is proceeding as planned. The Federal Administrative Court declined to hear an appeal filed by Roger Schawinski and his partners, as Radio Südost in Chur announced on Monday.

The initiators of a local radio station in south-eastern Switzerland and Aargau fought against the ruling by the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom). They wanted the Competition Commission (ComCo) not only to examine the dominant market position of media companies in the two broadcasting areas, but also to investigate whether this position was being abused. As the Federal Administrative Court did not accept the appeal, it remains the case that, following the investigations by the Competition Commission, OFCOM must clarify the question of an abusive dominant market position.

In the protracted dispute over radio licenses, Schawinski and his partners say they want to crack the media monopolies in Graubünden and Aargau. Radio Grischa, which broadcasts in Graubünden/Southeast Switzerland, belongs to Südostschweiz Medien, while Radio Argovia belongs to AZ Mediengruppe.

U.S. demands user data of prominent Wikileaks supporters from Twitter

According to the whistleblowing platform WikiLeaks, the U.S. government has demanded that the microblogging service Twitter hand over user data on prominent WikiLeaks supporters.

U.S. justice authorities have put legal pressure on Twitter, Wikileaks said Saturday, according to SDA. A federal court in Virginia is asking the network to hand over far-reaching information about communications related to Wikileaks to the authorities. Specific details about Twitter users, such as their addresses, are being requested. Twitter did not initially want to comment on the case and, according to the BBC, only said that it would inform users of all legal steps, provided that this was legally possible.

In addition to Assange, the people in whom the authorities are interested include a member of parliament from Iceland. The latter told the British newspaper The Guardian that she sees her personal rights at risk. The court in Alexandria, near Washington, is also seeking information about Twitter communications involving U.S. corporal Bradley Manning. He is suspected of leaking classified documents to Wikileaks. Manning is currently in custody in Virginia.

IFAA: Hans-Ruedi Hertig new member of the Board of Directors

Hans-Ruedi Hertig, former managing director of Konso and head of GfK survey research until 2001, was elected to the board of directors of the Institute for Applied Argument Research (IFAA) effective January 1, 2011.

In future, two well-known exponents of Swiss market research will be joining forces, as the company writes in a press release: Hans-Ruedi-Hertig, "a trademark in survey research" and Christoph Glauser, "globally active expert in online market research and search engine marketing".

In terms of content and research expertise, this new addition to the IFAA is tantamount to a fusion of offline and online market research, according to the statement. The IFAA Institute, founded in 1994 and based in Bern, specializes in the content analysis of websites and digital evaluations of e-government, while Hertig represents all forms of traditional market research.

Online market analyst Christoph Glauser was elected to the board of the industry association VSMS as head of the IFAA Institute in 2009 and was also appointed by the EU Commission as a judge for the EU e-Governance Award. As Managing Director of ArgYou, he assists agencies and clients in Switzerland and abroad with competitor analyses and the implementation of web redesigns and online campaigns. Among other things, Glauser worked as a researcher at ETH Zurich for many years. He is a lecturer at the HSO for online marketing and teaches at various universities on new methods in online research.

City of Opfikon: Over 300 signatures against official gazette

Voters in Opfikon, near Zurich, are expected to vote on the future of their local newspaper, the *Stadt-Anzeiger*: The local Social Democratic Party (SP) has collected over 300 signatures to prevent the *Stadt-Anzeiger* from remaining the official gazette for another four years.

A member of the SP board told SDA that significantly more than the required 300 signatures had been collected. They are therefore confident that the referendum will go ahead once the signatures have been certified.

The opposition was triggered by the sale of the paper to SVP Vice President and car importer Walter Frey, who already publishes five neighborhood papers in the Zurich region under the umbrella of his company Lokalinfo. The SP now fears that the Stadt-Anzeiger will develop into an "SVP-Anzeiger" under the new owner. It would be naïve to believe that Walter Frey is only buying newspapers throughout the canton of Zurich for purely financial reasons, the SP writes in a press release according to SDA.

Should the referendum come to a vote and even be accepted, there are two possible solutions for the SP: either the city looks for a new provider for the official publications. Or the newspaper would have to be sold on to a politically independent owner.

The Opfikon municipal council does not share the concerns of the SP: in December, it gave its approval for the Stadt-Anzeiger to remain the official gazette of the town of Opfikon for a further four years.

The paper has a circulation of 1,800 copies and is published once a week. Once a month, the newspaper is distributed to all households as a large print run. Former publisher Theophil Maag retired for reasons of age.

Last but not least: Gruesome things to start the week

While cleaning out his email inbox, a police officer came across a message from his direct superior with a PowerPoint presentation attached. Among other things, it contained a picture showing a "female sexual organ with extensive skin eczema".

For those who want to know more: the PowerPoint presentation entitled "WG: Highlight of the weekend!" begins "with the depiction of an unclothed woman on a sports car" and ends with "the image of the abdomen of a female person with festering, bloody wounds".

According to the police officer himself, this shocked him so much that he was "permanently traumatized" and unable to work. According to Spiegel.de, an administrative court has now recognized the incident - as an industrial accident. The judge responsible based his decision primarily on an expert report. It states, among other things: The police officer had still experienced years later that "during intimate contact with a woman, he was overcome by the obsession with the image from the email and then actually had to check whether she was not afflicted in a similar way by an illness or comparable condition". Okay, that's enough. We didn't want to know exactly ... In any case, Advertising Week wishes you a good start to the new week!

Publicis: Advertising account won for Bernina's international brand presence

In May 2010, Bernina invited Publicis Communications and other agencies from Germany and the United States to participate in a pitch for the advertising budget for its international brand campaign. After several rounds, Publicis Communications prevailed over the competition and won the pitch.

bernina

Claudia Staber, Vice President Marketing Bernina International, was quoted in a press release as saying that both the strategic design and the creative implementation were convincing. These would move away from the conventional images of users next to their sewing machines towards playfully creative, emotional and aesthetic imagery. Such an appearance also appropriately conveys the premium aspect of the Bernina brand and expresses the creative aspect of working with the sewing machine and the passion with which most seamstresses go about their work.

The new website will be launched in late summer 2011 with a multimedia campaign in the main markets of the USA, Germany and Switzerland.
