Evoq: An Epiphany cake for the best Christmas card

As in previous years, the Evoq agency presented awards for the best Christmas and New Year’s mailings on Epiphany. The winner in the main category, «Best Idea and Communication,» was SBB with its «Guardian Angel» card. Recipients of the SBB Christmas card will be rewarded with the Evoq Epiphany Cake.

Well over a hundred cards landed in Evoq's mailbox again in 2010, the agency writes in a statement. All incoming mail was judged by the strict jury according to communication, creation, and wit, and combined in a shortlist. SBB was able to convince the jury best with the card "Guardian Angel". "Schutzengel" - writes the SBB - is not only an S-Bahn station with that name near Zug. The motif also symbolizes the safety and reliability that customers enjoy when they travel with SBB or entrust goods to it.

New this year, in addition to the main category "Best Idea and Communication", the special categories "Top Design" and "Weirdest Card" were awarded.

In the "Top Design" category, the Hofstetter family won a private mail order company from Bern. The card, produced in a limited edition as a screen print, shows a motif inspired by a trip to Mexico and designed by the family themselves. In the "Weirdest Card" category, the winner was the dispatch from designer Marcel Seeliger. The recipients were allowed to scratch out the Christmas greeting themselves using the Letraset sheets that have become superfluous in the computer age and were enclosed with the mailing. The winners of the two special categories were rewarded with an Evoq-Tirggel.

Is Invest Media working with Tamedia on a new stock market newsletter?

Invest Media, the operator of the financial and stock market information platform Invest.ch, will launch a new stock market newsletter in mid-January 2011. This will be done in cooperation with a media company that has not yet been named...

The new newsletter, produced under its own label, replaces the content of "XPress Trade", which Invest Media has been producing on behalf of Deutsche Bank since 2007 until February 2011, as Invest Media announced on Tuesday. The focus is on a daily trading idea from the areas of equities, currencies or commodities, which is analyzed from a technical market perspective. The service is embedded in a pre-market report with a market report on events on the American and Asian stock exchanges, a daily outlook on the Swiss Market Index as well as news on markets and companies, a diary and rating changes for banks.

Invest Media also announced that it is working with a media company for the new newsletter. Although the Thalwil-based company does not yet want to officially name the company, it is reasonable to assume that it is Tamedia. After all, Invest Media is also responsible for the production of the Internet morning report of the newspaper Finanz und Wirtschaft (FuW), which also belongs to the Zurich media house. When asked by Werbewoche, a collaboration with Tamedia was not confirmed, but not denied either. For the time being, there is also speculation about the relationship between the new newsletter and the FuW report.

SRG: De Weck expects return to the black in 2011

After five years of deficits, the SRG is expected to return to profitability this year. The 2011 budget calls for a surplus, writes SRG’s new Director General Roger de Weck in a guest column in the NZZ. De Weck also aims to strengthen background reporting and research in national broadcasting and to intensify the organization’s commitment to new media.

It will not be easy to achieve the goal. However, if there is no new slump in the economy, it should be possible to achieve black figures, according to de Weck's article, which was published in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung on Tuesday. SRG's losses had totaled 166.8 million francs by the end of 2009, according to earlier figures. For last year, the SRG again expected a Deficit of 75 million francs and for 2011 with a further CHF 42 million (as of April 2010). With a Savings programThe SRG is taking countermeasures to reduce expenditure by more than CHF 58 million. With more advertising and consistent enforcement of the fee obligation revenues are to increase at the same time.

In terms of journalism, de Weck aims to strengthen background information and research in national broadcasting. The new SRG Director General wants to intensify the commitment to new media. But entertainment is also a constitutional mandate. Furthermore, radio and television should report even more on other national regions and specifically stimulate program cooperation among the regions. With the growing presence of European media companies and global giants such as Apple (with Apple TV) and Google (with Google TV and YouTube), SRG is securing an independent Swiss offering in the long term. This mission is gaining in importance.
