OSW implements new communication concept for the St. Jakob-Park Shopping Center

The OSW agency has developed a new communications strategy for the St. Jakob-Park Shopping Center (SJP).

The starting point was the strategy of "focusing on people". OSW designed a campaign that introduces SJP customers and, analogous to the logo, prefixes their first names with a Saint. The amateur models are then called, for example, St. Mägge, St. Zoe, St. Ernschtli, St. Sandra. Facts such as the sale or the Christmas sale are also preceded by a St. - i.e. St. Sale, St. Offen. The campaign is used on posters, advertisements and at POS and will be continued in 2011 with further implementations and work.

Responsible at SJP: Andreas Kosanke (Center Manager), Nadine Bachmann (Project Manager Marketing and Communication). Responsible at OSW: Michael Oswald (AD), René Fisch (text), Anthony Bertschi (graphics) Hanna Baur Bättig (graphics) Nadine Siegfried (consulting management), Corinne Engler (consulting).

Health insurance companies: Code of conduct restricts telephone advertising and telemarketing

Health insurance companies have committed to significantly restricting and regulating marketing aimed at recruiting basic insurance policyholders. The Federal Department of Home Affairs (EDI) and santésuisse hope that the code of conduct will result in savings of between 60 and 100 million Swiss francs.

According to the agreement, general telephone advertising - so-called cold calling - may no longer be paid for out of basic insurance. However, advice over the phone remains permissible if customers expressly agree to it, Stefan Kaufmann, Director of santésuisse, told the media in Bern on Thursday, according to SDA

The insurers also undertake to refrain from cold calling for basic insurance. If brokers or internet services act as intermediaries for basic insurance, the commission per contract may not exceed CHF 50 - this may be charged to the basic insurance.

Study: Fear of paid content is unfounded

The fear of losing readers and the resulting financial losses—which is causing many newspaper publishers to shy away from introducing a paywall for their online content—appears to be completely unfounded.

According to a comprehensive analysis of data from Journalism Online, a company that supplies several US publishers with paid content systems, no significant changes can be seen in the number of visitors or in the advertising revenue generated after a changeover.

However, a closer look at the results revealed by Journalism Online reveals that the success of the introduction of a paid model also depends on the specific approach of the publishers, as Pressetext writes. Those newspaper publishers that were able to retain all of their readers in the course of the changeover all rely on a very conservative business approach, which at least allows site visitors to use a certain number of articles per month free of charge.

Publishing companies that are seriously considering a so-called "paywall" for their own online offerings are therefore advised by Journalism Online to use the somewhat toned-down version described above. "We encourage people to keep a certain amount of their content free so as not to choke off web traffic. If a cautious limit is set on the number of articles that can be consumed for free per month, up to 95 percent of readership will be retained," Steven Brill, the well-known US media manager and co-founder of Journalism Online, told the New York Times.

Online use continues to grow - social differences remain

The latest report from the Net-Metrix-Base Internet study shows that Internet use among the Swiss population continues to rise. While an increasing number of older people are also using the Internet, differences based on socioeconomic characteristics persist.

84 percent of all people aged 14 and over in Switzerland and Liechtenstein use the Internet. This represents an increase of three percent compared to the previous year and almost a doubling within 10 years.

Women and senior citizens in particular have caught up. At the beginning of the survey in 1999, only a good third of women and only 10 percent of those over 60 used the Internet. Today, there is hardly any gender difference among Internet users (52 percent men, 48 percent women). In addition, half of the over-60s are already active on the Web.

While the differences between genders and generations continue to narrow, they remain with regard to other characteristics such as educational level and income. A gap is particularly evident in terms of income: Around half of all people in the lowest-income stratum of the population (household income up to 4,000 Swiss francs per month) use the Internet. Among the highest earners (over 15,000 francs per month), almost all (98 percent) belong to the widest user group. This difference remains relatively stable compared to previous years, despite the general increase in online usage.

The Net-Metrix-Base study is published twice a year and provides basic information on the development of Internet usage in Switzerland and Liechtenstein since 1999. The data is based on telephone surveys. Around 23,500 telephone interviews are conducted each year.
