Is Tamedia selling Radio 24 and Tele Züri?

The Zurich-based media group Tamedia is considering selling its two stations, Radio 24 and Tele Züri. According to Handelszeitung.ch, several industry insiders have reported this.

The plan is being discussed at the highest management level, but nothing is ready to be announced yet. Tamedia does not want to comment on such plans at the moment: "We do not comment on rumors," spokesman Christoph Zimmer tells Handelszeitung. "However, we are reviewing our strategic orientation and organization as part of the merger with Edipresse of Western Switzerland." Tele Züri and Radio 24 have belonged to Tamedia since 2001. But the stations never really wanted to fit in with the tradition-rich media house. For industry insiders, the hapless relationship had been obvious for years.

Last but not least: iPhone, I have sinned

Sinful Catholics now have the opportunity to entrust themselves to their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch in an uncomplicated and unbureaucratic way - for a paltry 1.59 euros.

The program called "Confession" cannot replace absolution by a priest, as its developer Little iApps admits according to the press release. However, Catholics are invited to "prayerfully prepare for penance" - for 1.59 euros. The confession app is also intended to help save apostates and bring them home with digital technology.

And anyone who thinks they are committing another sin by using mobile confession can rest assured - two representatives of the Roman Catholic Church were involved in the development of the app. And that's not all: Cofession has officially received an episcopal blessing; a US bishop has given the application canonical approval. And even expressed the app's harmlessness in the form of a note "Nihil obstat", which means "nothing stands in the way".

Well then, pull out your iPhone and confess what the display can hold. And if you need a few ideas of what to confess, the official Sin calculator recommended - by the way, you will also find out how much you would have to pay at heaven's door for your sins in order to be let through the door.

CVP presents 2011 election campaign

The CVP Switzerland presented its 2011 election campaign in Bern on Wednesday.

The exponents of the election team made it clear that the CVP feels responsible for the success of Switzerland, according to a press release issued on Wednesday. And it feels responsible for ensuring that this remains the case in the future.

"Switzerland is an extremely successful country; one of the safest, one of the most prosperous and one of the most politically stable. The CVP is responsible for this success with a respectful policy that focuses on people and their freedom. We want to fight for these values. We want to fight for this success. We want this Switzerland to be preserved. It is the Switzerland of the CVP. We are therefore highly motivated for the election campaign. We will win this election campaign," National Councillor Christophe Darbellay, President of the Swiss CVP party, is quoted as saying. He is also issuing a challenge to all those who talk Switzerland down and undermine the tried and tested policy of concordance. This game is dangerous. Anyone who questions Swiss values is acting in an un-Swiss manner.

In addition to the success motif, the poster campaign's subjects and message also have a combative element. This is intended to express that we will continue to fight to ensure that Switzerland remains a successful model.

Voice of Russia: Foreign program broadcasts from Ticino

Starting March 1, Voice of Russia will broadcast from Monte Ceneri. The multilingual international program will be available on medium wave in Ticino and northern Italy.

The Federal Office of Communications (Bakom) has granted the public broadcaster a license for this service, as it announced on Wednesday, according to SDA. Voice of Russia’s target audience consists of Russian citizens and foreign listeners with an interest in Russia or the Russian language. Produced in Moscow, the program is broadcast in Russian, English, German, and Italian.

There are five medium-wave frequencies in Switzerland, but they have not been in use since last December, as René Wehrlin of Bakom explained in response to an inquiry from the news agency. A needs assessment conducted in the fall of 2008 revealed that the Swiss media industry had lost interest in medium-wave broadcasting. The last popular medium-wave station, Musigwälle 531, which broadcast from the national transmitter in Beromünster, was shut down in 2008. «The Russians apparently see an audience for these frequencies,» said Wehrlin. They are not required to justify this interest.

Voice of Russia will be the only foreign radio broadcaster in Switzerland. Like all broadcasters, it is subject to content oversight by the Independent Complaints Authority for Radio and Television (UBI) and general oversight by Bakom. According to Wehrlin, medium-wave stations are still widespread abroad. (SDA)

Last Friday, Jörg Kachelmann was still on the air at Radio Sunshine. Now he has been taken off the air until further notice.

Kachelmann is no longer allowed to present on Radio Sunshine until the verdict against him has been reached. Then we will see what happens next, head presenter Marco Thomann told 20 Minuten. This decision was made after the station received "one or two negative reactions".

Radio Basel, on the other hand, is not doing without the weatherman. Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief Christian Heeb explained in a written statement that the presumption of innocence applies until the final assessment of the allegations.

Censorship in Russia: British journalist denied entry

According to the newspaper, Russian authorities have denied re-entry to The Guardian's Russia correspondent following a critical report that cited disclosures from the whistleblowing platform WikiLeaks.

The British reporter had used dispatches published by Wikileaks and reported on allegations that Russia had effectively become a "mafia state" under the rule of Vladimir Putin. On Monday, Guardian editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger explained that the correspondent had been in London for two months to write about the contents of the Wikileaks dispatches. When he wanted to return to Moscow at the weekend, the Russian authorities refused him entry. Without an explanation, the journalist was immediately put on a plane back to the UK, said Rusbridger. According to the paper, he was arrested in Ingushetia in April last year after visiting the Caucasus region.
