Wiretapping scandal surrounding British newspaper: Scotland Yard wants to contact victims

In the wiretapping scandal involving the British tabloid *News of the World*, Scotland Yard plans to contact several thousand potential victims.

According to SDA, the police announced on Wednesday that they wanted to speak to all the people whose details were found in the confiscated documents. The investigators want to examine whether journalists from the News of the World systematically spied on politicians and celebrities in order to secure headline-grabbing exclusive reports.

The scandal surrounding the newspaper first hit the headlines in the summer of 2006, when Prince Charles' office lodged a complaint about a possible eavesdropping attack on the heir to the British throne. The then News of the World head of reporting on the royal family, Clive Goodman, was arrested and sentenced to four months in prison a year later. At the time, Goodman emphasized that he had acted on his own initiative and without the knowledge of other editors. Andy Coulson, then editor-in-chief of the paper, which belonged to Rupert Murdoch's group, resigned, although he always emphasized that he had known nothing about the wiretapping affair. Coulson later joined Prime Minister David Cameron as head of communications. In the face of public pressure due to the reopened investigation, he resigned from this post at the end of January. Hungary: Proposed amendments to media law

Budapest has submitted proposed amendments to the European Commission regarding the dispute over the Hungarian media law.

Corresponding drafts have been received, confirmed a Commission spokesperson in Brussels on Thursday, according to SDA. It will now be carefully checked whether the amendments comply with all aspects of EU legislation. Following a meeting at expert level, the Hungarian authorities announced at the beginning of the week that they would be submitting corresponding proposals for amendments by Thursday.

Among other things, the EU had criticized the requirement for all possible publications to report in a balanced manner. The Commission also considers the registration requirement for foreign media to be non-compliant with EU legislation.

However, Brussels had no legal objections to the controversial Media Council. The spokesperson did not provide any information on when the examination of the proposed amendments is expected to be completed. In Hungary, the newspaper Nepszabadsag had launched a constitutional complaint against the controversial media law. (SDA)

DD Com for Amag: Key visual developed for the growing dealer network

The agency DD Com has created a key visual for Amag Switzerland that is customized for individual dealers and used, among other things, as an advertisement or invitation card.

Switzerland is and remains a nation of Skoda drivers, the agency writes in a press release. It is no coincidence that the brand, which operates under the Amag umbrella, has been voted price-performance winner by readers of the Swiss trade magazine Auto-Illustrierte for the 11th time in a row. This loyalty is an incentive and an obligation: Skoda has therefore almost doubled its dealer network to over 100 partners. To communicate this, DD Com has developed a key visual that is used in all relevant communication channels, for example as national and regional advertisements and invitation cards.

Responsible at DD Com: Daniel Müri (CD), Florian Brand (AD), Matteo Ferrari (graphics), René Bucher (text), Sebastian Mutti (image editing), Jean Pierre Kuhn (consulting management) and Sara Renzi (consulting).

Last but not least: The bag for the steak

To keep its customers happy, a New York restaurant has come up with an unusual idea.

Anyone who indulges in a steak at "Marlow and Sons" can then purchase a bag made from the skin of the animal they have eaten. The restaurant owner's wife, Kate Huling, is quoted on Welt.de as saying that they want something that people can enjoy beyond the food. "They come in, they eat, they leave and usually think about something else. With the bags, however, the animal is preserved and honored". Well, whether this is doing the animals a favor remains questionable. A little more certain is the fact that the economy can benefit from it - and that's something. According to Huling, local tanneries hit by the crisis and the New York fashion industry will benefit from the idea.

Incidentally, in addition to bags, restaurant visitors can also purchase belts, wallets and hats as well as sweaters made of wool and rabbit fur as soon as the respective animal has been eaten. Enjoy your meal!

Blocher planned merger of Baz with AZ Medien

Blocher favored a merger of Baz with AZ Medien. As the Tages-Anzeiger claims to have learned from reliable sources, the AZ publishers were to determine the commercial side, Markus Somm the journalistic.

There is still a lack of clarity about the actual ownership of Basler Zeitung. According to Tagesanzeiger.ch, however, the role of Christoph Blocher as an advisor is becoming a little more transparent. Blocher always emphasized that he was mainly responsible for solving the problems in the industrial printing area of the Basler Zeitung Medien (BZM) group. As the TA is said to have learned from a well-informed source, Blocher favored the variant of a merger with AZ Medien in the only management seminar held with the BZM group management. AZ Medien publishes the Mittelland Zeitung in the header format and reaches around 400,000 readers daily. Together with the readers of BaZ's large circulation, this would reach a total of 600,000 readers in a geographically homogeneous area and could become the third major player in the Swiss press landscape alongside Tamedia and the NZZ Group.

Blocher made it clear that he wanted to give his biographer Markus Somm, who has since been appointed editor-in-chief of BaZ, a wider sphere of influence, as Tagesanzeiger.ch continues: AZ media owner Peter Wanner and later his son and designated successor Michael were to be given leadership in commercial matters in the merged company, in return for which Wanners were to hand over journalistic management to the BaZ owners by shareholders' agreement. In this way, AZ publisher Peter Wanner could hand over the third-largest Swiss publishing house to his son Michael Wanner, and the BaZ owners "could then influence 600,000 readers politically," as one insider puts it.

Political advertising: Juso not allowed to show Vasella half-naked

For the time being, the Swiss Young Socialists (Juso) are no longer allowed to use a photomontage—in which Novartis Chairman Daniel Vasella is shown half-naked—to promote their popular initiative to cap executive pay. This was decided by the Baden AG District Court.

The court ordered the Juso and its president and SP vice president Cédric Wermuth to immediately remove the image montage from the website of the Young Socialists and not to show it anywhere else. This decided the district court in summary proceedings in matters of personality protection already on January 19, as the media office of Novartis according to SDA on Wednesday.
