LZ Medien with record sales

The LZ Group generated record revenue of 166.4 million Swiss francs in fiscal year 2010. This represents a 4.6 percent increase over the previous year. Operating profit nearly doubled to 15.6 million Swiss francs. Consolidated net income amounted to 12.0 million Swiss francs.

Following the dramatic economic downturn in 2009, there was a slight recovery on the markets from the second half of the year, according to a statement from the LZ Group. All business divisions took advantage of this environment and, together with the cost-cutting measures introduced in 2010, operating results improved significantly.

The sales growth is mainly the result of higher advertising income and the income from Tele 1 television, which was fully integrated in the reporting year, according to the statement. The economic recovery benefited advertising revenues in particular. These increased by CHF 3.9 million to CHF 50.3 million, also thanks to the acquisition of Anzeiger Luzern. An increase of CHF 1.3 million (or +3.1 percent ) to a total of CHF 42.0 million was recorded in subscription and individual sales. Income from the Print and Calendar business segments remained at the same level despite the continuing difficult market conditions. Sales remained unchanged at CHF 50.2 million. Income from electronic media and other income amounted to CHF 23.9 million and was CHF 2.1 million (+9.3 percent) higher than in the previous year, mainly due to television.

According to the press release, operating expenses increased only slightly by CHF 0.2 million, although the new and expanded business areas (Tele 1 and Anzeiger Luzern) caused expenses to rise by around CHF 3.1 million. In the reporting year, expenses amounted to CHF 150.8 million (+0.2 percent). The operating result margin (EBITDA) improved from 11.5 percent to 16.1 percent. EBITDA amounted to CHF 26.8 million, which corresponds to an increase of 46.7% compared to the previous year. At EBIT level (after depreciation and amortization), the result was CHF 15.6 million compared to CHF 8.5 million in the previous year (+82.8%).

12 million francs Consolidated profit

The financial result was negative at CHF 0.8 million, down CHF 3.2 million on the previous year. The previous year was positively influenced by the good performance of strategic securities investments and the sale of an investment, as the company writes. In the reporting year, exchange rate losses in particular had a negative impact due to the weak EUR and USD. The other result improved by CHF 0.8 million because the previous year was burdened by restructuring costs.

Group profit amounted to CHF 12.0 million in the reporting year, which corresponds to a year-on-year increase in profit of CHF 3.7 million or +44.0%. Total assets amounted to CHF 157.2 million at the end of 2010, of which equity accounted for CHF 101.3 million or 64.4%. The number of shares issued remains unchanged at 78,000. The Board of Directors is proposing a dividend of CHF 100 per share (previous year: CHF 85) to the Annual General Meeting.

At the end of 2010, the LZ Group had 562 employees, who shared 472 positions.

Survey: Traditional media still play a key role

The Worldcom Public Relations Group has announced the results of its latest PR trends survey in Europe. The results show that traditional media still play a major role, even though social media has gained in relevance.

The study reveals similarities within the European countries. All agencies consider daily newspapers to be important media for product launches. All agencies also agreed that news agencies, consumer magazines, television and radio as well as bloggers should be included in the activity mix for product launches. Bloggers can sometimes be more important than daily newspapers, especially for fashion and cosmetics launches.

If the client is visiting the agency's country for the first time and does not have a local presence, the PR specialists surveyed primarily recommend individual interviews or a meeting for breakfast or lunch with a group of local top media. However, the individual European regions differ here: Agencies in Southern Europe would organize a press conference in a city but advise against social events, while Western Europeans are happy to use the press tour tool. In Northern Europe, PR professionals recommend either a breakfast or lunch or a social event. Agencies in Eastern Europe, on the other hand, advise their clients to organize press conferences in more than one city.

Press conferences at which end consumer products are presented are the best attended throughout Europe (24 participants on average). Events in the pharmaceutical sector attract the fewest participants (less than ten). However, there are major differences from country to country. For example, around 20 journalists attend a press conference in the technology sector in Southern and Eastern Europe. In Northern and Western Europe, the average attendance is less than ten. For consumer products, the number ranges from around 40 participants in Southern Europe to fewer than five participants in Northern Europe.

In Southern Europe, journalists are less willing to attend meetings and trade fairs if the travel costs are not covered. In Northern Europe, on the other hand, 4 out of 10 editors would travel to an event even if the costs were not covered. In most countries, according to the Worldcom agencies, press releases must be translated into the local language. Only Portugal was an exception here: here, journalists would prefer to receive the press release in English rather than in Brazilian Portuguese, for example.

29.4 percent of the agencies surveyed recommend Facebook as a platform for B2B campaigns. This tool is particularly popular in Eastern Europe. There, 75 percent of agencies support such a campaign, whereas this is not recommended at all in Northern Europe. The majority of all PR agencies (70.6 percent) stated that Twitter is used as a professional tool by less than 25 percent of editors in the respective country.

The Worldcom Public Relations Group is represented in Switzerland by L&W Communication AG.

Weber Harbeke Partners: The colorful sides of Pfister revealed

The agency Weber Harbeke Partners has realized the new Pfister spring catalog as well as posters and POS material for Pfister.

Pfister's new spring catalog is designed to "whet the appetite for color," the agency writes in a statement. Photos and texts on the individual color worlds encourage people to furnish their homes in a new and colorful way just in time for spring. Thus one learns that orange gives strength, yellow furniture appears less massive, red in the dining room strengthens communication and blue favors the sleep quality.

The 156-page work was distributed to over one million Swiss households. In support, the subjects also appear as posters and POS material in and around Pfister stores. A making-of of the catalog is available in the E-magazine from Pfister can be seen.

Cavegnwerbung: The new brand identity of Modissa continued

Cavegnwerbung continues the strategic positioning of the Modissa brand. With a poster campaign, the Zurich fashion house is targeting female customers "who know what they want.

Modissa wants to set itself apart from the world of fast-moving trends with a classic and continuous appearance and builds on the motto: "Fashion instead of lifestyle". "Because women from their mid-thirties do not change their taste with every trend, but look for the style of great fashion," according to an agency statement on Tuesday. In the campaign, this continues to be expressed through large-scale, striking motifs. The images show the path of classic fashion from the design sketch to the dress that lasts for seasons. Key visuals without much advertising text. Held together by the claim: "Modissa. I know what I want." The claim is intended to express the self-confident attitude of the customers, who no longer chase every trend but have found their style. The claim is intended to help the brand distinguish itself from the youthful fashion world.

The agency is relying on a poster campaign (F200, F12, F24) as well as a megaposter on the facade of the Modissa main branch on Bahnhofstrasse. The highlight of the campaign is the megaposter in the Wannehalle of Zurich's main train station.

And last but not least: SVP on the hunt for votes during Advertising Week

Attention, Zurich residents: If you receive a call from an unknown number these days, it might be the Swiss People's Party—out to win over voters. They've also been trying their luck with *Werbewoche*.

For the cantonal and government council elections on April 3, the Zurich SVP is focusing on voter proximity. Party members are calling potential voters and trying to convince them of the SVP's positions: more security, secure borders, better schools and, of course, no EU membership! The party wants to make a few thousand calls before the elections, as party president Roger Liebi told Radio 24. The graphic designer of Werbewoche was also targeted. Fortunately, she wasn't at home at the time. And because the lady left her message on the answering machine, you can now enjoy it too: to the message.

Note: Anyone who explicitly does not wish to receive advertising and indicates this in the telephone directory with an asterisk will not be called, as the SVP - which incidentally already used a telephone message from Ueli Maurer in 2007 to campaign for a "no" to the Eastern Europe Aid Act - assures the SDA. However, those who refuse to advertise could be threatened with a home visit.

Numéro 10: Turbo sleep launched for the BFU

The Swiss Council for Accident Prevention (BFU) aims to raise drivers’ awareness of the dangers of drowsiness behind the wheel and promote taking short naps. To this end, it has launched a prevention campaign called “Numéro 10” and introduced the concept of “turbo sleep.”.

turboschlaf

Fatigue is involved in around 10 to 20 percent of all traffic accidents. The only effective remedy for fatigue is sufficient sleep. If you feel tired before you start driving, it is better to avoid the vehicle. If there are signs of drowsiness while driving, it is essential to stop as soon as possible and recharge your batteries with a short sleep of ideally 15 minutes - this is turbo sleep. Taking a caffeinated drink before turbo sleep can increase its effectiveness. "Measures" such as listening to loud music, singing along loudly or open windows, on the other hand, do not help against the overtiredness.

To combat drowsiness at the wheel, the BFU - together with the TCS, the Road Safety Council and the Road Safety Fund (FVS) - has launched a three-year campaign. This is aimed at all car drivers, but also addresses different target groups in the course of each of the three years: Seniors, frequent professional drivers and young drivers. The campaign kicked off on Monday with the national Turbo Sleep Day (see pictures below).
